Alexandre Pato

It would raise a slight smile if the person we signed in the next week was the one nobody wants.

There's been some Brazilian football on BT sport and I've seen him play a couple of times, he's still quick and skillful but anything more than a loan or a very low fee would be too risky.

Doesn't look like he's lost his physical existence like Falcao. Might be worth a shot.

He just doesnt seem the type of player to turn it around. Massively talented he was, but i have never seen a player once pretty much finished, coming back and being a world beater or a very good player again. I dont think he would be more than a Chicharito/backup striker here. I dont think that is and should be his and our ambition. I havent seen him play in Brasil, but i would imagine he didnt tear the league apart.

Part of me would like him here, but after Falcao, I cannot trust a former heavily injured/injury prone player to risk our chances this season. Will probably end up back in Italy, or a medium Spanish club...

I would love it if we bought him. He's immensely talented, his injury record is the main problem.

I'm not going to lie, the romantic in me says yes. I loved watching Pato for Milan and the only reason he's not up there with the Mullers and Robbens of world football now is his injury record. He's 25 and would cost peanuts so what's to lose?

Have you seen that video above? Please show me a similar video for Falcao in the same time period to prove your point.
There's a reason for him playing back in Brazilian league for three years now, Falcao looked like world class in his video before his injury, Pato doesn't look anything special against mediocre at best Brasilian defenders.. he would struggle with EPL for sure

What video of Falcao in Monaco did he look world class?

Once upon a time he looked a class act. But any player who's still before the peak of their career and is back in Brazil? No offense but the quality really is here in Europe. Still I guess at the right price maybe he's worth a punt? Got to be better than Rooney right now?

How's his fitness record look like since he left Milan? That was his biggest issue, he always looked class that was never in doubt, her just unreliable.

I have no idea... I know a few years ago this guy was the next big thing. Then injuries took over and he went back to Brazil so I couldn't tell you.

I don't know a great deal about Pato, but I hate the idea that we are now writing players off at 25. Ruud couldn't have been much younger when we signed him?

I think people write him off because of his injuries mate. Ability wise he had it all but maybe the injuries have taken their toll? Maybe he's not able to be the player he once was?

I would definitely take him (perhaps a loan with an option to buy) on the condition that Chicharito isn't forced out as a result without having had enough time to prove himself - at this moment, Chicha is better and more proven. If we were to sign him and have him walk into the first team (and stay there, a la Falcao) we could be in trouble.

At 25 though? They may well be right but its just a personal thing about football at the moment. People writing players off at 21/22 because they make a mistake or 2 and aren't putting in Rinaldo or Messi type performances. We've seen people digging at Memphis already the kid is 21 years old, its just madness

Sorry tired rant just think it's unsustainable

Yeah why not let's just sign people for the sake of signing someone.

While we are at it is Adriano still knocking about lets sign him too.

FFS being linked to Neymar and Pato in the same week, the transfer window is definitely in full swing.

Oh I agree. I'm really not a fan of this whole "he's the next so and so" business. And it's even worse when a young player appears on the scene and is the next Memphis for example... When actually Memphis is still making a name for himself and hasn't achieved a huge amount in the grand scheme of things.

Watched him extensively when he was at Milan but he's nowhere near the same player anymore. Might be worth a punt on a small transfer free and minimal wages but I assume the club will be weary of reclamation projects since Falcao.

He looks far too good for that league, but the prem is a different kettle of fish entirely. Could he hack it physically? - I'd love to find out. I say take a punt if no big players are available.

On another note, wasn't he extremely homesick and that's why he went back to Brazil in the first place?

When Pato first came on the scene, I thought for sure that he would end up as one of the best players in the world eventually. Great combination of skill, pace, and finishing instinct. Constant injuries ruined any chance he had of reaching world class status. After watching that video, I'm glad that he has recovered well enough from all his injuries that he can still play at a good level. Some mid table club should definitely take a chance on him. If he can stay fit now, he can still be a pretty good player.

Since nobody here watchs brazilian serie A i'll help you guys:

-No injuries.✔️

-Top scorer of São Paulo.✔️

-Second top scorer of Brazileirão with 8 goals. ✔️

-Best player of São Paulo this season. ✔️

He is playing as left winger with tons of pace, he is a aerial treat and still can do better with more confidence. He has 20 goals and 6 assists in 39 games this year. Last year was 12 goals and 5 assists in 39 games.

He is a player of Corinthians which is loaned to São Paulo, one of their greatest rivals, he wasn't on form in his time at Corinthians. Now he is having the best season in Brazil and Corinthians want to profit while they still can and they pay part of his wages. They burned 15 million euros on Pato and he's loaned to Corinthians biggest rivals. Corinthians' fans hate him, Andrés Sanches, a very influent man within Corinthians suggested to loan Pato next year to Bragantino (a small club here in Brazil, who got a partnership with Corinthians). His contract is going to end in December '16 and they are trying to recover the investment.

tl;dr: Corinthians is paying Pato to play in one of their biggest rivals so they are crazy to sell him. Everyone affliated with Corinthians hate his guts and are very public about it and he himself isn't shabby either in hating them back.

Just thought I might share a few information I found about Pato here as most people here don't really follow him much.

Love all the people writing him off with absolutely no knowledge of Brazilian football. I haven't seen much, but when I have, he has looked good.

Aparently Pato has been fit in the last 2 years, and since his transfer to Brazil he has been fit 3 seasons out of 4.

Was convinced that he'll be the best player in the world back then. Anyway, now is too late although the muppet on me would probably like to see an Owe type of trasfer for him.
He is fit but shite.

Look at all that space he runs into in that highlight video; he wouldn't get half that with the style and league we play in.

Still, someone, who runs with the ball and at a bit of pace? WTF SIGN HIMMm NAoooo!!!!!

Not allowed. System comes first. All players equal etc

Like that scene in the Simpsons when Homer brought Ned to Las Vegas...

"Blame me if you must but, never speak ill of the system! The system is sound!! The system is solid!!"

I think, a Loan with option to buy would be a bit of a no brainer, this dude was the definition of real deal, he just fell of the wagon with injury problems. if those problems are behind him, some confidence and a good run could be all he needs to get back on track.

That said, you cannot put all your eggs in one basket, would be foolish to consider it more than an opportunistic gamble at the right price.

Not seen the guy in ages, but hardcore Milan fans who used to swear by him a few years ago, do not want him back even in their current predicament.

Would be shocked if we were considering him.

Why shocked? We took falcao and he can't run

There is zero options on the market right now. The thought of going all season with Rooney plodding the way he's been..

Pato still has pace, can play centrally and on the wing. He's played enough games to suggest his worst injuries are behind him and he's fit. I'd take a punt on him

He can't be worse than Rooney, it's chump change . Get him signed up, be good cover for Neymar

Still only 25 - gotta be worth a go for the money being touted . He was genuinely top class at one point

If he's the only purchase a lot of people would lose their mind but alongside another forward I don't see the downside

thankfully clubs are run professionally based on tangible evidence and not on some hopeless notion that some youngster that showed glimpses of talent years ago, has an atricious injury record would be a great punt for a club as big as ours....i'm pretty sure that come september 2, he will not be a united player....probably not even a premiership one...

Its evident that someone is desperately trying to market him here.
