You need to be able to do much more in a top team.

It all depends on what Jose wants from his front man, would you say Didier Drogba was an all round front man? I don't think he was and yet Jose stuck with him because he scored the goal and was a handful because of his size and strength.

That last bit surprised me, I've not watched Lyon much in the last season, I thought he looked good when paired with Fekir in that great season Lyon had a couple of years back. He doesn't seem a lone striker to me so we'd have to play a tight front 3 or use a 2 striker system IMO.

I don't think he fits Mourinho, the strikers are too often isolated and spend to much time without the ball

This is one the reasons I'm not a fan of Mourinho, his ideas regarding attack often seem very dated to me, he hasn't changed with the times.

Can't believe people here don't like him. Fantastic forward, complete, strong in duel and hold-up play, good with running with ball... Style of play very similar to Suarez

People might not realize it but we barely used Ibrahimovic abilities this season. We basically focused on his finishing when he is a lot more than that.

Am I right in saying that he still doesn't even get in the French team ahead of that superstar Oliver Giroud?

So two years ago this striker is better than Harry Kane no everyone up in arms lol

He's better than Rashford though so how would that make sense?
Lacazette would play the role that has tortured Martial all season: a wide attacker. Mourinho teams function best with a player upfront who can hold up the ball and though he might be currently a better player than Rashford, he isn't a better Mourinho 9 than Rashford IMO.

I haven't watched much of him but these are his last 4 seasons in Ligue 1:
13/14: 15 goals and 3 assists
14/15: 27 goals and 6 assists
15/16: 21 goals and 3 assists
16/17: 28 goals and 3 assists

Last 3 seasons he has hit 20+ goals in just the league only. He does the job...

Apparently, Deschamps didn't like his attitude with France in 2014 and he hasn't been decisive enough in CL. The first point is in my opinion harsh while the second is fair but he has played for a relatively poor Lyon.

His hold up play is a lot better than you would expect for a player of his size.
True
But is it good enough for a Mourinho side for him to play as a 9? I have my doubts. I feel if it was of the required standard, he'd have benched Giroud and Gignac at the Euros, to play in the role ahead of Griezmann

I wondered if part of that was to ease Ibra into a different tempo of league.

So would you say he is capable of making the step up from a poor Lyon side to a team that wants to challenge for the premier league and champions league? His goal scoring record is good but so is Lukaku's in this league and many on here still wouldn't have the later.

I feel you may be underrating Lacazette and overrating Rashford a bit here. Lacazette would be more effective than Rashford IMO

Benching Giroud will be hard, he has a better record than Benzema. I don't like him but he score goals when we need them.

I'm really not. His hold up play is inferior to Rashford's and for Mourinho 9s hold up play is usually their strongest attribute. He being a better player than Rashford cannot erase that reality.

Respectfully disagree, Lacazette's hold up play is fine, for a relatively small player he's very strong and holds the ball up well.

Yes, like Umtiti he is far better than his teammates but it has to be with a manager that suits him.

That is true. But apart from his record, both he and Gignac keep both Lacazette and Gameiro on the bench because of their excellent hold up play, that brings the best out of Griezmann. IMO Mbappe is the only one who looks like he might have the game to threaten Giroud's place

We're jumping from thread to thread and player to player and it's only June 1st

Yes...surely as close as you can get to the ideal lone striker? one of the few players who could get the better of Vidic, was fast, decent goal rate, scored in big games.

And is that manager Jose? Jose typically likes the big man up front and Lacazette is hardly that.

I agree but lets imagine that Mourinho intended to play Griezmann upfront in a 433 than Lacazette makes sense even though he isn't as good in the air as Griezmann. And think about that, Simeone went from Diego Costa/Raul Garcia to Griezmann/Gameiro and he wanted Lacazette last season. Some managers have impenetrable minds.

Not impressed with him at all, i'd rather belotti/Lukaku. He doesnt have the hold up play we need. He can finish ill give him that. I think he ll be down the pecking order.
I think this is how jose will see it
Lukaku
Belotti/Morata
Lacazette
In that order, i hoped we'd go for Aubameyang but i dont think jose likes that kind of striker.

Although he misplaces a couple of passes(which isn't like him) he gives us everything we need. Ball movement, dribbling, off the ball movement and mad finishing. I am convinced if he goes to Arsenal they have a good chance of winning the league.
