Getting some regular game time is showing he's better than many thought, this is looking more like the Telles we saw at Porto. With the style Rangnick employs we are going to need the fullbacks to rotate as it's so physically demanding, so it's great to see Dalot and Telles stepping up.

Also, he was about forty inches or so away from having two goals.

Telles is a very good passer and technically. But I feel under Ole he never got the chance to show that. Today he showed a bit of what he used to do at Porto.

When we bought him I think most of the Portuguese posters were saying he would be a terrific offensive weapon.

And then of course he basically went the way of Amad/DvB etc.

I don't know what other posters mentioned, for me particularly, he was very good scoring from setpieces, also he had a lot of assists, must be said particularly because Conceição teams crossed a lot of times and he played a lot of times with a 4x4x2, particularly on the Domestic League, it's not as if Telles was highly efficient with those crosses, he had a high number of assists because the Portuguese League is so unbanlanced that beside the games against Sporting or Benfica, also perhaps Braga, the big teams spend 90% of the times inside the opponents half trying to dismantle low block teams. Reason why Conceição is always murdered by Klopp when he faces Liverpool.

A completely different option to MR Sideways or Backwards passing Shaw.

I think Telles has savage potential.

It's good to see him hit a level that he was yet to reach since joining us.

I still think Shaw when he's on form is comfortably better but having Telles up his game is a massive boost. Find him to be really likeable as well. Seems like he really cares.

He can cross much better than he did today. But nice to see both Telles and Dalot playing well these last couple of games.
Exactly! His cross is the best in the team. The best of the last few games is we now have proper competition set up in LB and RB positions.

I'm second guessing myself now after these stats and all the posts thus far because I thought he was quite poor

I don't think he did anything fundamentally wrong but he doesn't have any individual quality other than being an able body on the pitch and having a decent cross. He did everything you would expect in terms of overlaps, pressing, being a passing option etc but apart from one or two times, I felt he was quite underwhelming. He's a good back up and perhaps he deserves more game time to build his performances up, however, a fit Shaw is still miles better for me.

Maybe your analysis is too, erm, critical? :wenger:

All I remember is reading their posts - probably yours among them - and thinking we'd have a nice alternative to Shaw in games where we could be more on the front foot. (And then of course, like you say, there was the customary pointing out that his stats all came from 'a weak league'). At the time I thought we were getting a crossing specialist.

Anyways, little did anyone know that Ole would play him pretty much never.

He's finally figured out how to not get wrecked every time in a 1v1.
Now we can actually enjoy his technical talents.

But he is a good alternative to Shaw, why didn't he showed before I don't know the reason. He is a good player, and I stand by that, he also was good at Champions League level, not only at League level.

Shaw on form is the best LB in England and one of the best in the world. The question is when is he going to get back to that form?

I have a feeling we're going to find out he and some of our other players were way better than made out to be.

I didn't wanted to go so direct, but I have my own suspicions regarding that. ;)

Very good today, seems to be settling in the team now. No surprise really, barely played last season, when he did it was the odd game here and there. Finally gets a good run in the team and seems to be growing in confidence and the team will have a better idea of his playstyle. On current form, he should keep his place when Shaw is back.

I think he’s underrated. Difficult to get rhythm and confidence when in and out of the side, very solid performance today and hope he gets a run in the team now. shaw has been beyond awful this season.

Easy to lose sharpness if you play 1 game every 4 months. Give players a run of games before you judge them?

You have a feeling at times that he will get ownt in one vs one with any speedy half decent wingers.

Tbh, people are going a bit overboard with both FBs at the moment. Not that I don't like seeing them doing well. But a bit of overrating after 3-4 games.

CP was really trash today. Zaha couldn't even keep the ball inside the pitch when he ran with it.

It helps that he doesn’t get isolated against quick wingers, likewise with Dalot on the other wing when the team defends together and wins the ball in the opposition half more often.

Yeah, most of the time when a player experiences a downturn in form you know they'll eventually turn it around but for some reason with Shaw I always think there's a chance he might just permanently bow out as a top footballer.

He's definitely improved his defensive skills hasn't he? I feel more comfortable with him now. Not Shaw from last season comfortable, but quite ok. And he's quite good offensively.

We’ve been here before with Shaw, as recent as last season when we first signed Telles. Just look at the threads from back then to see what people were saying. Shaw had a brilliant season, however more often than not during his 6 years here, he’s been a bit of a letdown. Telles shows so much passion which is always going to win him some fans. Good to see him get a few games and you can clearly see him building confidence.

If you have time to watch any game of PSG this season, you will find their fullbacks are always exposed against 2 players, because their front 3 forget it, they don't help. Same thing for Portugal under Santos when it plays against a 3 at the back system, Germany, Serbia and so on, the fullbacks are always outnumbered and isolated. It's really easy to blame personally individual players when you are coached by tatical morons, and I don't want to develop this more, even if the PSG situation is different, no sane manager can make those guys work as a team, I mean, Tuchel had to leave.

Has a wicked delivery. The set pieces were just brilliant.

So another player not looking useless under a decent manager who would have thunk it?

it’s just being fit.

when you aren’t match fit you’re slower, weaker and run out of stamina easier. it’s why playing 1 time every few months isn’t enough

I am not his biggest fan but I thought he did ok today and he should get the midweek game as well so he is getting a bit of a run along with Dalot.

Lively player, always trying to make something happen, was connecting really well with Sancho yesterday. The lad does overrate his crossing ability doesn't he?

Norwich 0:1 Man Utd
Can't believe there are people who can't see why Shaw is a huge upgrade on him.

Shaw is... When Shaw performs

Shaw hasn't been performing since the euros so you can see why tellles deserved the start

it’s a matter of time till Shaw takes this position back. Unlike Dalot on the right, Telles hasn’t impressed. He’s not terrible, but Shaw offers a lot more

He was so easy to play around. Kept diving in for tackles he couldn’t win.

I thought Telles was fine. 4 tackles, hit the bar with his deflected free-kick, one key pass for Rashford's off-target header. Generally looks to play the ball forwards.

Shaw at his worst is still better.

Shaw at his worst is him stood on Maguire's toes while Spurs stick 6 past us and Liverpool stick 5 past us with most of the goals coming down his side where he's vacated the position. So... No, not really.
