Alex Teixeira

Willian was selected for Brazil whilst playing for Shaktar. Admittedly not very often but it is not impossible.
I didn't say it wasn't impossible, said it was the norm. You basically have to be in top form to be selected. Douglas Costa only got his debut the season before Bayern bought him. Luiz Adriano wasn't called up for the WC despite all his goals, they went for Fred and Jo instead. He was even going to join the Ukrainian NT but couldn't because of legal issues.

Its´not exclusive to Eastern Europe either. Dante and Luis Gustavo said one of the additional reasons they went to Bayern was to play for Brazil. You can´t get a look playing for Gladbach or Hoffenheim. Shaktar is probably at the stage Leverkusen was a few years ago, that they have such an excellent record with Brazilians that they get more attention than other "small" clubs. In the past it was almost mandatory to be at a superclub. Then in the past Brazil also had a lot deeper talent pool.

Looking like he could end up being this year's Konoplyanka. Not much time for Liverpool to get a deal done and they're baulking at asking price

It'll will probably end up going down like that. We'll be sending in lowball offers until a fee is agreed like the Konoplyanka deal and then the owner will feck about with paperwork. If he doesn't fly in to Liverpool the day before then I don't think it will happen at all.

Shakhtar CEO Palkin added: “Teixeira has a compensation charge in his contract - the price is €70m. Please, if someone wants him - let them come and declare themselves.”

Thank you, sir

70 Mio EUR?

Not too Long ago I would have thought you can theoretically get each Player except Messi for that Kind of Money.

Im surprised Liverpool arent willing to pay for him. They paid £50 mil for lanky from the geordies ffs. And theyre in the top 10 earning clubs in the world. Pay the money you scouse cnut la's

That's mad money. I think Suarez was only £65m.

Yea but Liverpool are in the same boat as us. Because of their revenue generated theyll always have to pay over the odds, and rightly so. If they really want to start competing with the likes of Arsenal, City and Chelsea they need to shell out the cash.
No they don't.

€70m for Teixeira isn't good business no matter how you cut it.

Im sure since those figures were released in January and the huge TV deal for the premiership every club outside England will try to shaft English clubs on transfer fees and since Liverpool are in the top 10 earners they can expect it too

Then he'd have had a better season than Neymar. Mind you, a CL win too.
Right, all the clauses in his contract. Even if he doesnt win Balon D'Or or CL we've paid well over the odds for him. We've already paid €50 mil up front for a 19 year old.

70 for Teixeira is the price, if Liverpool want him they should pay it.

Surely you can only say that after the fact? It is good business if he becomes world class and gets them into the Champions League before leaving for a big club like Madrid for £100m.

He's just turned 26 so it seems unlikely that he's going to get much better. Spending €70 million now would probably reduce how much we can spend in the summer whereas if we wait then it seems like Shakhtar will allow Teixeira to leave at the end of the season. I don't think signing him now is going to get us top four either. Even if he scores 15 goals between now and the end of the season we're still playing catch up with the six sides above us and the defensive issues are always going to hold us back.

The only risk with waiting is that he might keep scoring for Shakhtar and get his head turned by a bigger club. I don't buy into what he's been saying about wanting to join us. He'd probably say the exact same thing if Chelsea or Spurs were in for him so if he improves on his goalscoring then it wouldn't surprise me to see him end up at Munich or Madrid. That being said I still think he'll end up being a Liverpool player, just not in January.

Is he actually 70m good? That's the price they demanding, but how much do you thik is he worth? I don't follow this team, so no idea frankly.

Hes going for 37m apparently

I knew that interview he did about wanting to join us was a load of rubbish. Money talks at the end of the day.

Where are these Chinese clubs getting this money from? Do they all have super rich owners?

It's all so sudden. So much money spent in one window. It's mental!

*Wages*

£100k per week to play for Liverpool

£250k per week to play for a team you have never heard of before.

Looks like Klopp isn't as sexy as you thought.

That's the most effective way to kill your career.

He's going to struggle to sign anyone if we're being beaten for wages by Chinese clubs now.

He is either desperate to leave Ukraine or they are offering him a shitload of money. Probably both.

I'm surprised no European club bought him, he seems like a quality player. Maybe €50M was considered too much? I wonder how much did the scousers offer?

£24m according to Sky.
