Alex Song

The key thing with Song, is that however else he stacks up against other top midfielders for better or worse, he is better than almost every single one of ours, and therefore a worthwhile signing.

Yep I agree

He's proven himself very useful in the premiership, so why would he be a waste of money. LVG is going to create a team and buy players to suit his style. So if Song is one of his targets it wont be a waste of money! To be honest he'd walk into our current midfield, so why would anyone not want to see the team improved is beyond me!
i think he had one decent season in the premier and thats it, he was inconsistent before that, and poor at barca since. i was gob smacked when barca bought him and not surprised at all they want rid.

i think at the very best he would be a extremely slight improvement on what we have(and only then if he can recreate his best form at arsenal of which there is no guarantee.)

plus as he is fairly a big name he would demand big wages and the last thing we need is another average player on big wages, who rat the very best should be nothing more than a squad player at any top 4 team.

think the only reason people are interested in him is cos he plays for barcalona, thinking he must be good, simple fact he isnt barcalona made the mistake lets not repeat it!

i mean he was bossed by mexico's midfield last night, for god sake! would be a terrible signing!!!

I don't. Being better than what we have is not very difficult. Being good enough to win trophies is something else. He was crap yesterday and has been crap since he left Arsenal. He had 1 good season there. Herrea looked a much better player than him yesterday

And that is why I wouldn't want him.

Discipline is awful just like his positioning.

If Barcelona offer him to us again I'm going to get very offended. I might even write a strongly worded tweet.

Optimises everything that was wrong with Arsenal lol. No thank you.

Kind of. One moment of madness doesn't really change his quality as a player. It's not like he's the sort who's always picking up silly cards.
well personally i still question his quality as a player as he hasn't played well in either game, or in the past 2 seasons at barca, and apart form his last season with arsenal where he was pretty good, his form before that season was pretty mixed, so wouldn't say he has proved his quality.

but the rumors of us been linked with him seem to have died down, so hopefully it was just nonsense

anyone still think he would be a good signing?

Yes, still miles beter than Cleverley and Fletcher and not more of a liability as Fellaini but with far superior technical skills and a much beter passing.

You can go for someone like Song or waiste an entire summer dreaming about Vidal and Schweinsteiger and then raging about it for an entire year because ofcourse we ended up not signing anybody. There aren't many other beter players available atm that are realistic for us to sign. Whatever Song does or doesn't do on the worldcup doesn't change shit about that.

Has just surpassed Pepe as the dumbest player of the tournament so far. Don't see anyone do anything dumber than that anytime soon.

He's a fecking idiot. What was he expecting to accomplish by doing such dumb shit especially in their most important game in the tournament? He basically shot his own team in the foot by being an absolute moron. The ref was close by as well.

i 100% agree with you on the vidal or Schweinsteiger... unrealistic targets point
but equally i don't think buying rejects from other clubs is away to rebuild our squad. I also Don't think signing players for signings sake is a good idea.
we have 5 current Center midfielders in our squad, arguably all of whom should be nothing more than a squad player at a top side(in anndersons case should be anywhere near a top side), i do not want us to compound that problem by adding another player in the same mould.

ill admit that if song re-found his form he showed in his last season at arsenal then he would be a slight upgrade on what we have, but what if he carryes on playing like he did in the world cup, which even without the red card was poor, or his form at barca, or his form at arsenal before his last season which was inconsistent at best.
i think buying a player who has had far more poor/inconsistent seasons than good seasons as a player is a stupid gamble. espically when the upside isn't enough t make it worth while.

i honestly would rather us sign no one then bring in players like song and vermarlen, as we currently have far to many inconsistent squad players on wages so high they almost impossible too sell, and gambling on bring more players in who fit that description is a sure fire way to make the situation worse rather then better.
as at least that way we have some flexbility in the squad and we arnt just pi$$ing money down the drain

I hope we are never linked to a player of his kind from now on.

This can't be an option for me, if we can't bring in anybody that would improve our midfield, than we beter just quite right now as a club. The displays of Cleverley etc they simply can't go unadressed. it doesn't have to be Song, but I'd much rather sign him than stick with we have for another season, honestly I couldn't stomach watching those useless players in our midfield for a minute longer, Cleverley topping the list for me. There are boundaries to human torture and I have reached mine watching Cleverley play in our midfield. Honestly if we don't sign a midfielder, I might have a nervous breakdown and not be responsible for my actions anymore.

Whatever form Song had at Barcelona and Arsenal and however he is playing in the world cup it can't possibly be any worse than having to watch Cleverley !

There are a lot of average players that could probably improve our squad.

I'd welcome every single one of them as long as they'd improve our midfield. I'll take any sort of improvement, any, but I do not want to see our midfield next year being again Cleverley and Carrick because we have nothing else, it is unbearable. We needed midfielders last summer, we needed them 2 years ago, we can't go into next season not adressing this situation. Whoever is realistic and whoever would provide any sort of improvement is welcome for me, as long as I don't have to stomach that useless twat of a Tom Cleverley anymore !

Dumbest? My nominee would be Assou-Ekotto, headbutting his teammate Moukandjo when they are already down to ten men. I bet he will face further action.

well his form at the world cup and at barca and it the past for arsenal has been worse then cleverly!
would it really save you from a break down if we bought another disappointing midfielder?

I still don't understand the concept of the foul. I could see the (far fetched) potential for a slap or for tripping him up but how do you even get the idea to try raking your elbow down someone's back? It's magnificently mental.

C'mon, that's a bit harsh.

Signing average players because they are a little better than what we have is a bad idea long term.

THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE !

You can't be worse than Cleverley, you simply can't be !

I don't care about long term, I care about next season !

leaving our shit in the midfield, won't get us back into a position were we'll suddenly be able to sign any midfielder we want again. This has to be adressed this summer and if it means signing Song, then it will have to be Song. if it is somebody else, it will be somebody else, but what it can't be is nobody, that is not option we should consider, it is suicide, it is worse, it is torturing yourself to death if you leave this midfield unadressed. The options we have are essentially useless, bar Carrick maybay, we can't go on not signing atleast one midfielder, we can't !

Alex Song must've been possessed by a demon or something in that instance. I just can't think of a rational reason why he'd lash out at Mandzukic who didn't seem to provoke him in any way.

Perhaps he saw a bug or something on Mandzukic back and he wanted to help out, that or he really doesn't like Mandzukic.

He's not even that good, he's basically the Cameroonian David Luiz, but Wenger had the sense to convert him to a midfielder. Even then, he's not that good there either.
