Barcelona have opened the door for Alex Song to make a move away from the club before the summer transfer window closes.

The Cameroon international has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp under new coach Luis Enrique.

A return to the Premier League has been mooted for a man who represented Arsenal for six years prior to heading for Catalunya.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a loan approach, and Barca have admitted that they are prepared to speak with interested parties.

Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said: "We will see if we can find a way out in the remaining days of the market."

Barcelona have also taken the opportunity to point out that Luis Suarez was their top target this summer after agreeing to part with Alexis Sanchez.

Zubizarreta added on a man who cost £75million: "He can play from both sides of the attack and is used to the high demands and pressures.

"[He was] the first choice. So we set out to see what his situation was."

May not be a Vidal ,but a far realistic purchase.

I'd be delighted if you got him. Anyone but Liverpool would please me, really. Average player with an abysmal attitude.

Last time I looked he was somewhat better than Henderson, Lucas or Allen.

I would rather stick with Fletch. Song was an attacking midfielder at Arsenal, despite what anyone says to the contrary, he wasn't defensive enough, and he hasn't played regularly in the last two seasons. In the two seasons while he's been at Barcelona he has played an average of 35 min per league game Barca have played (although he only played a part in 39 out of 76 possible games).

No, he wasn't.

Season long loan with option to buy would be ideal. He's a good player, nothing special but perhaps better than what what we've got (not including Carrick and Herrera).

He wasn't attacking midfielder. That was just his bad positioning.

I wouldn't mind a loan deal.

Central mid with freedom to roam. Admittedly Wenger didn't offer him that freedom, he just took it.

Seems a few people have forgotten where he played for Arsenal. Was never an attacking midfielder. For a cheap loan player, he's as good as anyone could get. Would improve our midfield options & could always use him until the player Van Gaal really wants is fit!

As cover til Strootman this is a real option, if we dont want to fork out on Khedira, or anyone else

I don't particularly rate him but for a dirt cheap price or a loan I'd be happy enough if he came in

I think he will do for now as he will buy LvG some time, enough time to really identify and go after someone he really rates. It also helps that ge is better than anyone bar Carrick and Herrera and could really suit playing alongside Ander.

feck No. Better than nothing? probably, but that's no excuse. He is utterly rubbish now, incapable of anchoring midfield or defensive duties. Prone to leave spaces behind for opponents to attack and isn't quick in moving the ball around. Dross. Even at his best he had these limitations.

From my recollection Barca were open to a free loan for him. I'd take him, even if we did get Vidal for instance. He would still be quality depth, and has it in him to be a very good player.

Barca's upheld transfer ban may change their thinking though.

Surely you mean loan. If he is the lone signing from now till the end of the window, this place is gonna get berserk
As an addition to the midfield he could prove useful as we have no holding midfielder. As I said though, I wouldnt really want him though if he didnt come with another midfielder(a dynamically offensive one). Either way I don't see us being in for him.

Never a holding midfielder. Very good asset as a box to box midfielder where his energy can make up for his poor positional discipline and his directness and drive can come to use higher up the pitch.

He'd be a good signing for most of the top clubs. Maybe not as a solution to nail down a spot in the first eleven and build on, but an excellent squad player who could very well force his way into the first team.
