Alex Song

Chief has always had some weird views on things but lately he's been even weirder. Keita played in more than 40 games in each season he spent at Barcelona, 42 appearances last year.

Plus more than likely Song will earn a better salary and will have a much chance of winning trophies than at Arsenal.Wtf could the Chief be sorry about  ?

Arsenal are now officially a selling club.

I can see a few clubs bidding for Wilshere next season.

He started 22 games last year which isn't bad at all, he averaged around 25 starts a season. Song can drop back into centre back but I remember Keita playing a left-sided role a fair few times so I'd say it's fairly even in terms of versatility but perhaps Song will just get more games ahead of the likes of Thiago more often than Keita did last year.

19m to Arsenal but Barca have immediately slapped an 80m release clause on him

Haha

Release clause's are a requirement in Spain and the majority of them are completely meaningless, just absurd numbers. I think Ronaldinho's release clause is €200m in Brazil.

I wonder if that figure is misleading? Keita cam off the bench in a lot of games I watched last season. How many did he start?

I think Song is a much better player fwiw.

Started 25 games. He didn't have the versatility of Song though and could inly play in midfield, Song will be used in defence as well, he'll rack up 30+ starts easily.

Keita played as a left-sided forward and I think as a left back on a few occasions.

I hope we are one of them. As a matter of fact, I have believed him to be 'the' missing piece of Fergie's jigsaw since he broke into the first team for Arsenal.

Keita is a man in his 30's with such a role. Song is 24. Trying to displace Busquets(24, Pique (25) and Mascherano (28) with the likes of Montoya (21), Fontas(22), Do santos (22) and Thiago (21)as direct competition for the roles he can play when he himself is a player aged 24 and still developing.

Compare that to Keita who arrived aged 28, at his peak of his development as a player.

The fact that Song is now unlikely to be a star. He most likely going to end up as a squad player like Keit, yet rich and trophy laden. I'm willing to bet he had bigger ambitions than that.

Puyol looks on his last legs so that position might be up for grabs. Also Pique hasn't really excelled in the way people thought. Hence why Mascherano got a lot of game time for their defence, also they rotate a lot as well so he might have a chance.

Pique was dropped because of personal issues with Guardiola, rather than him not playing well. Macherano also established himself as first choice alternative to Puyol/Pique in that period. He also has Montoya, Fontas and Maritnez to contend with. Not to mention Busquets himself, who can be played there to accommodate Fabregas or Thiago in center midfield.

All I can say is good luck to him. For he really has his work cut out.

That's so wrong, I mean when you're going to Barca you must have high ambitions about yourself and the club in general. If you don't believe that you can play a role then I'm sure you wouldn't sign for them, it's just logical.
If Song wanted to be star and only a star without a real shot at trophies, he'd have done his best to stay at Arsenal.
I just find the notion of feeling "sorry" for him extremely weird, it's not like he's going to the slaughterhouse

Firstly, at 24 Song is 2 years off being a mature pro who would move and commanded a first team place any where, rather than what has happened now. Secondly, Song was not going to stay at Arsenal when they wanted him gone. Especially when moving would get him better pay and a better chance at trophies. Thirdly, who told you that I was talking about being a star sans trophies? Lastly, what he believes about his own ability means little. I mean, Hleb believed he make a name at Barca. Look at him now.

Whatever you say, I've learned a long time ago that arguing with you is absolutely pointless.Keep feeling sorry for a multi millionaire footballer who is probably thrilled to leave Arsenal for a club like Barca (regardless what'll happen in the futur)

Arguing? You were simply trying to laugh at a view point you clearly haven't understood in the first place. Which is your fault alone.

Keep feeling sorry for a multi millionaire footballer who is probably thrilled to leave Arsenal for a club like Barca (regardless what'll happen in the futur)
I will for its my view on things. I'm not sure why it irked you so much in the first place. I'm under no obligation to have your take on things.

Seems a few of the papers have picked up the ongoing twitter rumors that he was sold due to him being a bit of a ball bag that Wenger got fed up with.

Christiano's is 1 billion Euros; they were thinking of buying him and Messi for 1 billion euros and 30 million quid, but decided to only go for messi!

Song'll be good for them; their squad seems to be stacked in terms of first XI, but has precious little in terms of experienced, quality players after that, and I really think they'll suffer if they get a few injuries.

At LB: Alba, Adriano and Eric Abidal (Still being treated, poor lad). Hardly much to boast about here in terms of cover.

CB: Puyol (Injury prone now, old etc.), Pique (Keeps getting dropped due to form etc), Mascherano (Done well here) Busquets (Midfielder); again, not much to boast about in terms of cover.

MF: Well stocked here, certainly

Attack: Messi, Villa, Pedro, Alexis (Iniesta). The rest are unproven youngsters. They are helped massively by the fact they aren't getting too many injuries to players like Messi, etc. but they certainly need to add 1-2 players in defence, and 1¬ attacker; or just hope no-one gets injured until a youngster integrates himself fully into the first team picture.

Obviously the fact that they are leaning towards 'pure' football helps them; each player ought to be able to play in any position (Bar Goalie).

However, in pure CB terms its shocking; they have Puyol Pique (Fontas). Luckily Mascherano's done well for them; and Busquets can do a job there.

Song definitely has a place in their team; he can pick a pass, comfortable in possession, big strong lad and is experienced and isn't massively expensive.
Arsenal losing another one of their better players.

Pique was dropped because of personal issues with Guardiola, rather than him not playing well

I disagree, it was definitely down to his performances and, frankly, lack of concentration. He is, as I have said on prior occasions, a player that needs a slap upside his head from time to time

If he played LB for us, I certainly can't remember an occasion he did

I'm willing to bet he thinks he's good enough to be part of their best XI.

I hope he has ambition like that

That last look Puyol gives him...

Banging Shakira seems to have affected his performances, can't blame the guy I suppose....

Song was earning as much as Denilson and Bendtner. No wonder he was pushing for a pay rise.

Aye it's fashionable to blame a player but when you're paying the clubs reserve the same wage as the club main player and if you're expecting the main player won't create a fuss then you're a moron.

It's the look that epitomizes Puyol, for me - intense but apparently he has softened quite a bit with Piqué's return to the club interestingly enough

Song will wear #25 with A. Song on the kit

Song's Wiki page is quite comical at the minute.

Song wanted to give his children a good upbringing in life, which he claims eluded him; he married at the age of 18 and is now father to two children, the older being two-year-old Nolan.[7] Song is one of 28 children in his family; he has 17 sisters and 10 brothers.[8]

Seriously, how is that even possible? You'd literally need to pop one out every 9 months from the age of 18 to 38. Unless there's loads of triplets or something.

Very good signing for them. Would of been nice for us to attempt to get him but would of been almost impossible given we already brought Van Persie.

Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has claimed he only left the Emirates for Barcelona as the Gunners would not talk to him about a new deal.

The Cameroon international became the second high-profile player to depart the north London club this summer in the wake of Robin van Persie's move to Manchester United.

And while the striker's announcement that he would not be extending his stay under Arsene Wenger hastened his departure, Song insists that he had shown nothing but loyalty to Arsenal.

The 24-year-old, who was sold to the Spanish giants in a £15million deal, says he was ready to pledge his long-term future to the Gunners, only to be 'fobbed off'.

Postponed

Song told The Sun: "I was ready to commit my future to the club. All I wanted were talks about a new contract but each time we were due to sit down, the club postponed it. I was fobbed off.

"I wanted a new five-year contract at Arsenal. In the end I got one - at Barcelona.

"I had been trying for eight months to start talking about a new long-term deal but the club kept postponing me all the time, saying 'You have three years left'.

"I hadn't talked about money I just wanted to sit down and discuss a new deal - I wanted to commit my career to the club I loved.

Quotes of the week
"Then out of the blue, Barcelona came in for me. And, suddenly, I was wanted by the biggest club in the world and they wanted to give me a five-year deal."

Hurtful

Song has also hit back at reports which suggested his exit from the Emirates was due to a poor attitude in training and a fall-out with manager Wenger.

He added: "I woke up and read those things in the paper and was really surprised and disappointed. I love Arsenal, I never wanted to leave.

"I'm really upset. These accusations are hurtful, they are slurs on my character. I have the utmost respect for Arsene Wenger. I loved him like a father and he is a fantastic coach.

"He made me the player I am and I am indebted to him for that. There was never any trouble between us, so for someone within the club to suggest that really upsets me.

"If Arsenal thought I wasn't enthusiastic in training then maybe it was I didn't understand that I was contributing on the pitch and they didn't want to sit down with me."

Stinky, stinky bullshit.

There were reports of him wanting a new contract at Arsenal.
Clearly about more money than anything else..
