Alex Song

I've always thought Busquets is overrated, and I could see Song get a lot of playing time.

Wish Song good luck with that. Yaya failed when Busquets was 21 and had played in the 3th division a year before. Now with the experience of winning 2 CLs, 3 La Ligas, 1 WC and 1 EC, it might be a bit harder to lay claim to his spot.

As pete correctly pointed out however: Keita was our most capped player in 2010 / 2011. Song will get Keita's time. And even more since he's even more versatile than Keita apparantely. It's a squad game after all. Busquets can't play 70+ games in a season (including national team duties) and Mascherano is a CB permanently now. I also have a feeling that Song will play alongside rather than instead of Busquets in most games and Iniesta will get shifted to the left "inside forward" spot quite often to continue his awesome relationship with Alba.

Someone who brings a bit steel into the midfield area without being completely limited like Tiote or De Jong is what Tito wants. I don't think Song will play in the back 4. Pique, Puyol (who wants to do a Maldini and play until 40+) and Mascherano are proven in that position and Bartra looks amazingly promising. If you look at Real Madrid, they don't have more options there. Ramos, Pepe, Albiol and 1 talent: Varane.

Feel sorry for Arsenal though. Barca must have contributed with € 100 million in Arsenal's new stadium by now. I'll be genuinly rooting for them in the Prem this season (also because of Cazorla's awesomeness ). I hope this helps a bit. So let's start: feck YOU FROGGY FOR RIPPING US OFF OUR CAPTAIN! PIG HEADS WILL BE THROWN AT YOU IN THE EMIRATES!*

*Hm. Nah, doesn't really feel like the Figo saga.

:wenger:

If Arsenal can sign a steady DM type I think they will be better off once the player settles in. I don't think Song will last more than 2 seasons at Barca.

BBC have basically confirmed this. Also, a glance at rawk makes it look like Arsenal have Sahin lined up to replace him, for this season at least. If they get Sahin permanently that's a pretty quick and impressive response from Wenger really.

Well, I think it's been in the works for many weeks tbh. Plus, everyone has been getting carried away over the former Dortmund player who has barely seen the pitch in 18 months. No one knows what he will provide in the short term and he certainly isn't further ahead in the depth chart than Coquelin. Longterm, that's open to debate

I'm happy about Song as cover for Keita was needed as Homeomorphic already pointed out, Seydou played a lot in the rotation. And if Tito's work in preseason demonstrated anything, there will be more rotating in his regime - I mean, I actually saw Leo substituted in a preseason match which is unheard of. Steep fee, IMO, but it's probably good value in the end considering he isn't likely going to take long to acclimate

Your posts make me lose the will to live.

Tito has a pressy that is getting ready to get underway, Song questions are guaranteed. The rumours are that he'll be in Barcelona today and presented on Monday, may play in the Gamper against Sampdoria

Might be more credible to get a player's opinion on fitting in who wasn't dropped from the club

Sorry if it wasn't clear; I was merely relaying his quote with the source, and my own comment was that it must be serious interest if a Gooner is saying how well or not he'll do there. I'm not trusting Miquel to know whether or not Song will fit in; the fact he's passing a judgment on whether he will or not, adds strongly to the speculation that Song is going.

You don't say your teammate'll fit in well (or not) in a club, if you don't think he'll be going there! That was the point of my post; to add weight to the now likely situation that Song is off!

According to various people in twitter. His move to Barcelona has been confirmed.

He will enjoy his time on the bench there.

BBC: BREAKING: Arsenal confirm what we reported earlier - that Alex Song has left the club and is having talks with Barcelona.

These cosy Barca fanboys are starting to grate.

Most Barca fans are complete wank, to be honest. Even I don't like them.

EDIT: So deal's done. The article is here. Don't know whether to be particularly excited or not, I haven't paid that much attention to him when I've seen Arsenal play.

Their 2 best players gone, and judging by the game today, it doesn't look to good for them.

According to the official Barca site, he cost € 19 million. Medical on Monday.

Wonder what Arsenal will do with all that money. Probably buy an unknown French prospect from Ligue Deux.

Nah, if they lose points at Stoke next week, he'll buy some Mertesackers as he did last August after 8-2.

If the price is right then it's an absolute steal. Big blow for Arsenal if it does go through. Though with about 40mil in from this and rvp they will surely invest in at least 1 player.

From bad to worse for Arsenal. Him and Van Persie were two of their key players last season. They definitely need to sign another top class midfielder before the window shuts. Even so, that's a lot of proven quality that's walked out their door. They can't expect instant results with whoever they bring in. Today's game showed there is potential in their team but they clearly haven't gelled yet.

I just think Song to Barcelona is a bad move.

Breaking into their midfield is a big ask.
