I can honestly see us NOT signing a new LB, but going into next season exactly the same as last season ended.

Agreed and that's my worry with this whole transfer. Di Marzio has been awfully quiet about it and presumably he would have reported it in depth, if anything was happening.

From what I've seen, Sandro looks decent and would add a lot of energy up the left flank. With Juve needing cash, Darmian plus cash would seem to tick a lot of boxes for both clubs. No hard evidence but muppets always have a glass half full.

I still think there are legs to this rumor, Sandro has been angling for a big contract for a while. Juve need to reduce their wage bill in order to pay Ronaldo so selling some of their assets makes sense. They already have Spinnazola who can fill in for Sandro. Makes sense for all the parties involved.
Hopefully we remain firm on our price because Juve are desperate to get the Ronaldo deal done over the line.

I think if we were serious about signing Sandro the deal would have been done by now.
The process would have been hammered quickly out incase Sandro was at the World Cup with Brazil, as he wasn't selected in the Brazil squad, then the deal would have been completed in the first week or so of the tournament.
But silence.....Nothing has happened.
Right now, I'm pretty sure that we will go into the new season with Shaw at LB, until Young is refreshed, and then he will take over.

I'm hoping that the kid, Dalot, hits the ground running and impresses really early. Would be nice for him to stake his claim on either the right or left side this season. That way, at least one of the two sides is well accounted for moving forward into the near future.
If he leaves Juventus and we don't sign any semi-decent left-back, then i'll riot like a spoilt little kid.

was wondering the same. If England go on to win the World Cup, would we still need to replace Young! But imo we should still go out there and get a LB.When was the last time the Glazers were being cheap?
Really mixed feelings about this one. Sandro didn't exactly have a great season at Juve last season, hope he can pull it off but would it happen for us in the PL? Not so sure about that. Having a ok(ish) season I think he would still upgrade our LB position. Kinda feel that if he comes I feel good but if he doesn't I'm not too sad about it.

Even if that were to happen it wouldn't really mean anything with regards to United. He's a solid alternative for both full back positions, but as a first choice left back he kills our balance going forward. He could win the World Cup for England and save babies from a burning house but it wouldn't change what sort of impact he has as a United left back.

I honestly think Young + Shaw is good enough for LB. It was at RB that we seemed short to me and that has been addressed now.

Last season, our main RB was Valencia who was the captain. Highly rated by Jose.
This season, Dalot has been added, but will rarely get any game time. A 19 year old with virtually no first team experience, won't be used by Jose, in a season where he needs to win the title. So to mention him is pointless.
With regards to LB, last season, we were "making do" with A.Young. Let me ask you this question: in which of the top 6 teams would AY, be a starting LB/LWB? The answer is: probably none.
AY is decent in attack, but woeful in defence.
Jose is not an idiot. He has worked with some top class players in his time and he knows that AY is not an ideal candidate, but he is "making do".
If we start the season with the same team which finished last season + Fred, we are screwed and Jose will most likely get fired. I really do hope he knows this and hasn't fallen for Woodward's false assurances that his job is safe (as LVG/Moyes did), no matter what. Jose needs to win the title and hope he understands this.
