Alex Sandro | On the market in January

Not sure about the rules but he spent 5 years in portugal and 3-4 in Italy, pretty sure he must have applied for a dual citizenship?
Also he makes the Brazil squads regularly doesnt he? He should have the permit no problems unless my assumptions of the rules is shit.
He does not have. That the reason Danilo to Juventus collapse in the summer as Danilo also didn't have the European passport.

I am not sure about British work permit, just saying it's a bitch for a big transfer in January given the window is short and for big transfer, the negotiation usually takes long (unless we blindly pay asking price and take all the risk).

I think I would take him over Rose cause I dont want another injury prone replacing the one we already have.

Along with the fact that he's a better player than Rose? Rose is very good and if he can get back to his level pre-injury we'd have the best LB in the league most likely, but Sandro is levels.

I think this "If he can get past his injury he can be the best in the league" with Shaw, Bale and Rose is going too far. Well I dont want to sit around and wait. I want someone who can hit the ground running from the start.

I was only thinking about Javier Ribalta the other day and thinking about when we’ll see the fruits of his labour?! He was a big acquisition in the summer and I fully expect some of his old players to be here.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if none of his old players come, I'm more interested in his new players.

I haven't seen him but Sevilla (assuming they're still smart even with a new head in charge) paying a decent fee (for them) for him and him being in the Brazilian league team of the year and the highest rated young player in the league on whoscored (#2 being Arthur, who seems likely to go to Barca for a big fee) just seems like everything you would want to hear about from the next Brazilian LB, and considering there are always 3-4 at any given time good enough to play for the best 10 teams in the world (Alex Sandro, Marcelo, Filipe Luis and Telles and a couple others seem next), seems like a good chance of hitting.

I still don't know why we didn't sign Mendy. He's not too tiny for Mourinho (like Gaya, say) and he's a fine athlete and an even better crosser from deep which seems like what we need with our leftwinger being direct (since Martial and Rashford are closer to 9s than 10s) and not so much about intricate linking up to play the LB in on the overlap (which you get more from 10s playing wide like when Pienaar would play Baines in routinely). Effective in both 4 and 3 at the back setups. And he was proven at a high level and young, which is important at a position so based around energy and speed for like 90% of great modern fullback. I don't think there's anyone like that available this summer, unless I'm forgetting someone.
The thing about Arana is that hes better now than Alex Sandro or Filipe Luis when they were 20 years old.
So is pretty possible that he will be a superior player in few years.

For anyone who hasnt seen him...

Compilation I know but looks decent? Good strength defending and going forward (bit like Pogba, tough to knock off the ball), very good technique (megging people easy, whipped crosses, nice first touch), fast, positive mindset (liked the chasing back).

Lots of the attributes you'd want in a modern wing-back.

I've only seen videos of Arana after hearing some Brazilian fans rave about him. From what I saw, he has the physical attributes to make it in the premier league (strong, fairly quick and tall enough). He also seemed to make overlapping runs and decent enough crosses. Technically he didn't seem the best though, so a few years in Sevilla wouldn't be a bad move for all parties.

We were reportedly very interested in Mendy. According to Castles, Mourinho wanted to sell Shaw and bring in Mendy, but Shaw's injury and a lack of funds meant that we didn't pursue a move for him.

Ribalta would have been key when Juve signed Sandro. Might help us here.

I don’t remember any other fullback doing a job on Messi like he did in the quarterfinal last season.

Lets sign him just to have a Brazilian in our first eleven. The fact that he's one of the best left backs in the World is also a positive I guess.

He's the only other player we're linked to, besides AG, who would instantly improve our first 11. He's an obvious purchase if it's feasible. Didn't think about the Ribalta link. Promising.

January is a bit premature, in my opinion. Quite a few reasons for this...

  1. Mourinho talked yesterday about giving Shaw chances this season, so if he goes and signs a new top left back in 3 weeks then that goes out the window.
  2. Ashley Young is currently playing very well and deserves to keep playing so long as he keeps delivering.
  3. We have quite a few LBs as is and need a clear out, more quality over quantity. Best time for this is the summer.

I had Shaw as certain to go (still think he'll go to be honest) but if Mou wants to give him chances, then we should re-assess the situation after those chances are given. My belief on that is that Shaw has a slim chance of reaching the level Sandro is at, while the latter is a finished product and a certainty. I would sell Darmian and one of Blind/Shaw depending on how Shaw does. Then bring a quality LB like Sandro.

Why is January premature?

If we can find a quality left back then we should sign them. Otherwise we just giving a free march to Chelsea.

We shouldn’t sign a left back in January because a 32 year old is playing well in that position is just nonsense.

So according to you Shaw has slim chances of reaching the levels of Sandro, so then why is January premature?

The club owes Luke Shaw nothing. He’s had nearly four years to cement the spot and has done very little. Good games against drab like Brugge and Moscow isn’t going to cut it.

I don't watch a lot of Serie A, but I must admit this has me a lot more excited than Danny Rose. Can't see it happening in January though.

Isn't it funny that its pretty much accepted that he leaves if a good offer comes in yet as soon as he's linked with us the Caf starts to over complicates things.
All of a sudden January is too early despite nobody having a clue about his situation until a google search from 3 hours ago.
Nobody knows whats going on!

If there's any chance of getting this done in January then break the bank. Natural successor to Marcelo, only a better all round player.

Sell Darmian and Blind in January, buy Sandro and go into the second half of the season with our FB options looking like this;

LB - Sandro/Shaw
RB - Valencia/Young

This is kool aid, frankly: Marotta did not let Asamoah go last Summer, when he could have got a decent replacement, he will not let go Sandro in January with the Scudetto and the CL still open. Sandro will stay and finish the season.

We (PSG) could be interested in him but not have the funds available until summer because of FFP.

I don't see Juve selling in january anyway.

Read the if we can find a quality left back in January part. Then find out the meaning of the word if.

I am not sure your board is going to spend £150m+ this January to get those two or three world class players United still need to go for the treble, so why one only? You do not need anything urgent, Young is doing well and Shaw will have his last call. It is much simpler for the big teams to focus on the several, good free agents entering the market

Instant buy if available. Potential to be the best left back in the world in the coming years

Nobody is talking about £150m.

The rumours coming out we have £90m to spend. Considering Jose didn’t get his fourth player last summer, I suspect that money could be used in January. Plus departures like Blind or Darmian, I’m not sure about Mkhitaryan also.

Woah I didn't realise he was only 26. I thought he was pushing 30. Maybe I was thinking of someone else.

Can't see us buying anyone in January though.

Not seen much of him or Juve - if so then why is Juve selling him & relatively cheaply?

£50m+ for a LB isn't exactly cheap tbf and Sandro has apparently asked to leave and is unhappy at Juve. Saying that, I can't see Juve selling in January.

Oh okay I thought it was cheaper than that - thanks

Who’s the better player, Alex(Sandro or Telles)?
