If we are keeping both Young and Shaw then LB can't be looked at as a problem position. Either one of them isn't good enough or as I suspect we just need to give both more time especially when you look at how well both have been doing in that position lately.

Would be annoying if we don’t at least try and get him.

Young can be backup for both fullback spots and wings, luke Shaw could be backup to sandro

Shaw can’t stay fit to string enough games together to get fully fit or show/fulfil his potential whilst Young is a 33 year old winger suddenly turned full back, I’d say left back IS a problem position even if Young has put a few games together that have been very good.

Alex Sandro is without question one of the top 5 left backs in the world, almost certainly one of the top 3 and arguably the all round best so is a HUGE upgrade on what we have at the club and if we can get him for £50 million then we should without question.

How is he defensively?

For a Brazilian he’s solid defensively and would have only become better defensively since moving to Juventus and working with the likes of Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli and playing in Serie A which is a defensive league.

Plus, if United do get Alex, Shaw can be the understudy to him, Young can cover both FB and Wingers, which would enable Mou to sell Darmian and perhaps Blind. Most probably Darmian who is able to play on both side of FB but place shall be taken over by Young.

How is he defensively?

Not the best, like most of the modern, in vogue, full-backs. The commentator today said that his replacement Asamoah is much better defensively, but worse going forward. Not sure what Mourinho wants the most, probably someone who is strong and tactically astute, as well as having a great machine and a good cross on him.

I think he's probably the best defensively out of all the 'modern' left backs

What a load of stereotypical nonsense. He’s an excellent defender, have you actually watched him? He might take a few more risks but few can recover like he can and he’s been in a team that can cover for him. Under Mourinho he’d be expected to be a little more conservative but it’d see him as hands down the best fullback in the league.

Sandro is very good defensively. He has good positioning and some physicality about him that allows him to make up for mistakes.

I've watched him for Juve many times, and he is often like a brick wall that attackers cannot get past. A bit like Valencia but on the left.

For us to sign him somebody has to leave in Jan, we don't need that much back up. Personally I'd if Shaw like to see Young and Shaw left to fight for the spot however if Sandro comes in somebody has to leave.

Shaw. He's been here long enough now. He'd have established himself by now if he was going to.

Yes someone has to leave and that someone is Darmian as he’s the worst we have on either side, Young would probably be even better on the right as he wouldn’t NEED to cut inside every time and his delivery into the box is better than Valencia.

Valencia/Young on the right then Sandro/Shaw on the left is perfect balance and strength in depth, Darmian is actually rated in Italy and has been linked to Juventus for over a year so they’d maybe even take Darmian off of our hands at the same time too.

He is so out of juve. We need to exploit this. We can get him cheaper than rose and he is better player than rose( not saying that rose is bad).

Cheaper than Rose? They turned down nearly £60m from Chelsea, and they are notorious for being stingy.

They don't much fancy us either after the Pogba saga.

Yes, but then sandro for first team player, was happy, etc...
Now they have player who wants out and player who is not in first 11 anymore. Huge difference.

If he's available, buy buy buy - cheaper than what he normally would cost and has end-product

He wants to leave apparently. Whether or not Juve would let him leave is another quetsion though.
our policy which the management has repeated a thousand times is "if the player asks to leave we won't stand in their way"

So it's more than likely he will be sold by the time Summer comes around

Yes, he'll leave next summer.

Not sure if its been mention but didn't Ribalta scouted him for Juventus? Maybe, he's the one who's telling us to go for him instead of Danny Rose. Although, it doesn't take a genius to work that out, admittedly.

Hes been heavily linked with Chelsea afaik. I think he even said he wants to go to the PL but wants to go to Chelsea.

Seems fitting since Chelsea still majority of our signings.

Don't really understand all this Chelsea talk. Are they not completely satisfied with Marcos Alonso?

Seems fitting since Chelsea steal majority of our signings.

United and Chelsea have been competing for the very same players every season for the past decade or more, and I think you can probably count on one hand the number of times we have beaten them to a signing.

Thats what I thought, was under the impression he's been brilliant and signing a right sided defender was of greater importance.

I have seen very little on Sandro but if he's Mourhino's first choice and we sign him then I'd be delighted as we're desperately short in that area. Would Juve be interested in Darmian?

I remember hearing from Castles that Conte actually wanted/wants Sandro to play as a LCB and keep Alonso as a LWB.

I think Chelsea want some competition at LWB. Alonso was great last season and started well this season but has gone off the boil since and is looking a bit tired. If they could get Sandro I suspect Alonso would act as cover. Chelsea are OK at LCB. Luiz will comeback if required.

I really doubt Sandro could play this role from what ive seen and it would completely waste his attacking ability.

Yeah that's what I would presume as well. Chelsea don't really have cover for LWB, bar Zappacosta (who is better on the right side) and Azpilicueta (who virtually covers every defensive position).

I don't think Sandro would struggle in that position, as he has similar attributes to Alaba. Though, his attacking instincts would be limited playing there.

Probably not (and hopefully not) as a Sandro replacement. Spinazzola, now also an Italy international, is on loan from Juve to Atalanta where he has done well at LWB. Maybe Darmian could be a replacement for Lichtsteiner who is leaving this summer, but then again, we just bought the very similar De Sciglio for around 10 m euros.

He's good, but he's not world class. Sandro would be an upgrade on all but a handful of left backs, so its understandable why we want him.
