Wants to go play in an U20 tournament while we are at a crucial part of our season still needing to clinch top 4 and miss an FA Cup final?

Sell him.

We don't have to release him because it's not a senior tournament. More a case of player wants and us either letting him do what he wants or convincing him to stay.
The tweet a couple page back states that it's FIFA rule that we have to release him if he decides to accept the call up

Messi himself had a conflict in Barcelona to go to the 2008 Olympics. Other argentinian players called are

- Matias Soule (Juventus)
- Facundo Buonanotte (Brighton)
- Nicolas Paz (Real Madrid B)
- Luka Romero (Lazio)

apart from the youngsters playing in Argentina (Federico Redondo, Valentin Barco)
Olympic was at the start of the season. It's very different to end of the season business. Ronaldo missed part of the start of his second season with us to play in the Olympic too (after playing in the Euro). He never committed himself to U20 U21 level after moving to us.

Article in the Manchester Evening News yesterday said that we are only required to release players for international duty during formal "international breaks" in the schedule. This tournament is not taking place during an international break so we are not required to release him.

I really like Garnacho, I have high hopes for him and look forward to watching his career develop.

Having said that, people worried that he might be upset about not going to the u-20 WC and would want to leave. Let me remind people of another youth player who had that attitude, he didn't get his way as a youth player and left to greener pastures. Then we decided to correct our mistake from the past and brought him back. Now ask yourself, when that player returned, did he have an elite, winning mentality and contribute to our success, or did he have the mentality of someone who would throw their toys out of the pram if they don't get their way and turned out to be a massive flop.

I hope and believe Garnacho will succeed, but should it turn out that the decision to block him going to the u20 WC makes him want to leave United, maybe he never had the right attitude and commitment.
This. We're paying his salary and we think we might need him. We should stick to our guns. It's fine he wants to go, but if he gets stroppy as a result of not being allowed to then we will have learned something about his character.

Really should let him go. It's his only chance to play in this tournament and it's in his own country.

No letting him go would be a huge mistake

I agree with the decision to not let him go but if he won't sign a new contract because of it then it will massively backfire

Poor call and this will be one of the main reasons we will lose him eventually.

Aye he’s fecking off in a year or two.

Hasn’t Vinicius got the left wing locked down for Real? Why’s everyone so paranoid?

Because Real Madrid took our best player one time about 15 years ago

If his new contract has not been signed this might piss him off a tad. We better start him then when fit, otherwise we may lose him if his arse is just sat on bench for the rest of the season.

I doubt the club would be stupid to just say no, maybe he understands and is fine with the decision as he will play for the senior team soon enough. Well I hope so anyway.

He's the only attacker we have who can come off the bench and do something

Martial treats his playing time like a cigarette break

Yeah, this is exactly the type of servile attitude that led OGS to covering up for Greenwood (obviously to a less extreme extent).

If he wants to make a big deal about it, I'd prefer he shows us he's not up to it now and we can move on.

If Garnacho wants to be upset with anyone, it should the Argentina national coach who should have really called him up for the proper WC.

Well that Argentinian coach won the WC so maybe he knew what he was doing

Signed a new contract AND a possibility to play in the fa cup final ?

Brilliant

Drama queens in the mud again.
Quite funny, isn't it? Everyone scared a 20-year-old might not sign a contract for us.

Very happy he's done so and hope we have another superstar on our hands!

Excellent news - has all the potential in the world, lets hope he fulfils it, certainly seems to have the right attitude.
