Alas poor Carrick...WTF has happened?

Obviously losing Carrick is a blow.

For the away games, it might mean we have to experiment with 3 in midfield which is something we have done in Europe. In all honesty, I want to see how United get on without Carrick, as it was pointless buying Fellaini if he was not going to play a part for the club. It's really time the likes of Fellaini and Cleverley made Carrick less essential than he was last season. Jones has potential to cover as well.

OK... everybody stay calm. Just stay calm. CALM DOWN!

We've been so lucky to dodgy this bullet for this long, at least we have an extra body in Fellaini to try to patch things up.

Really wish we'd put the Champions League group to bed in the away games now.

Fellaini's time to shine. And we can expect to see Phil Jones on an extended midfield run.

It's a shame but it happens. Hasn't looked quite right for a few weeks because I thought he started the season quite well in the first few weeks but his form waned and now we've learned that he played through injury against Arsenal. Hopefully he can get back around xmas.

Now it's time to pray for RVP's fitness.

Strangely, this hasn't sunk in as being terrifying news yet. Odd considering that this is an absolute fecking disaster and leaves us with a shambles of a midfield on paper.

Maybe it's the Arsenal game...I'm hoping that game will be the trigger for some newfound 'clicking' as a team that will end up making Carrick less essential.

I thought the same thing when I found out the news. Now we've got to go away to Leverkusen and Shakhtar at home only 1 pt ahead of Bayer and 2 ahead of Shakhtar right now.

Midfields are overrated. We've been playing with half of one for years, Moyes is just evolving Fergie's blueprint.

It's time. 4-0-6. It is the future.

This will be good for us in the long-term I suspect. We have all spoken about how important Carrick is for the first team and now we will truly find out. Moyes could never bench him in the big games so he would not either be sure on how we would co-op without Carrick. Either we realize we can handle not playing Carrick, even in the biggest games, or we realize we need a new midfielder because without Carrick we are terrible and we can buy someone in January.

Maybe, Just maybe this can turn out good. We'll probably improve our mobility. I love Carrick to bits but he's not the the player to keep moving and running around doing hard work. Maybe this will force Moyes to use a 3-man midfield and our link up play between midfield and attack will improve. This news should give Ando a kick up the ass as well and can probably motivate him. Cleverley or Jones should be our focal point in midfield. Fellaini has to prove himself now.

I can only hope this is a blessing in disguise

massive blow.

i guess it is going to be jones-cleverley CM now..hope fellaini will take his chance to impress when he gets to play. anderson and giggs are there as well. moyes will have to take a deep look at the opponent's strengths and weaknesses before deciding the 2 midfield players he is going to field now.

The fact that we had him playing injured against Arsenal just shows how important we think he is in the big games. Also shows how much we trust his replacements.

It's really unfortunate that he's out for a while :(
I think Jones and Cleverley might be the first choice pairing in his absence though I'm sure Fellaini will get in on the action.

He hasn't started the season well IMO. It's a big blow but also a big chance for Fellaini to show us what he can do.

No Carrick for six weeks? Well, this will be interesting...

It's quite a blow. I think Moyes should play Jones and Fellaini until Carrick recovers. The passing will be meh but noone will get past them. I'm a fan of the physicality the 2 destroyers would bring.

If we stick to 2 msn midfields without Carick its going to be gruelling. We need to go 4-3-3, Fellaini, Clevs and Kagawa need to step up

Not brilliant news.I expect Giggs will play more and fellaini will get his chances also.At Cardiff I see Giggs starting with Jones, and at Spurs I reckon Jones,Cleverley and possibley Fellaini/Kagawa at the head of a three in midfield to combat theirs.

n He hasn't started the season well.It makes you wonder, like with Robin, just how much those niggling injuries have been hampering him. It's good to see how much better RvP looks after some rest, and hopefully Carrick will be back to his best for the second half of the season!

If we want Fellaini to fill in for Carrick, he'll have to play a more positionally disciplined game than he's used. Whoever we partner him with, be it Jones, Cleverley or Anderson, will be the more mobile and advanced of the two. It'll be interesting to see how he does in that position, and whether he has the discipline for it.

So possibly out for the Cardiff, Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Stoke and West Ham games in the Premiership, most likely the Hull and Norwich games as well. And that's not including Europe.
That's a big chunk off the season. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm hoping it's not as bad as they say and it's just the usual newspaper bullshit. I take it there has been nothing from the club?

If true? As others have said, it's time for our other midfielders to stand up and be counted. This could be make or break for Anderson, Fellaini can cement his place in the team and Cleverly can finally get a good run off games.
It should make the Christmas period interesting to watch.

Time for Fellaini to step up don't relish the prospect of seeing Fellaini and Jones in a midfield two though. A combination of Fellaini/Jones and Cleverly/Kagawa for me please

Not good news obviously but it's a chance for others. Cleverley seems to step up whenever he's without Carrick. Fellaini now needs to stamp his mark on the team. Jones is looking very good as an option. Just have to put up with more frequent Giggs bashing for not playing like a 26 year old box to box midfield general.

It's a shame but we will live. It's not as though he is out for the season.

I thought he wasn't playing poorly or through any kind of injury?

I thought the only reason I'd pointed this out was because I had an agenda against him?

at a time when Scholes in (08 maybe?) was injured Anderson really rose to the ocassion

he'll maybe miss 3/4 games

It says a lot when Carrick hasn't been at his best this season, yet he's still been our most important player and best centre midfielder. In the last few games he was beginning to find some form too, very frustrating

Carrick is injured... so, if I'm not mistaken, this definitely means that...

Group A - People who hate Fellaini are happy - because the next few games will showcase how rubbish he is, thus proving them right - this may have some crossover with Group D.
Group B - People who like Fellaini are happy - because the next few games will showcase how rubbish he is, thus proving them right - potential crossover with Group C.
Group C - People who dismiss Carrick's importance to the team are happy, - because no Carrick will demonstrate that we play better without him, thus proving them right.
Group D - Peeople who think Carrick is still incredibly important to the team are happy - because no Carrick will only further demonstrate how much we need him., thus proving them right.

So basically... everyones happy right? Apart from those people who don't care about being right, and are just unhappy that one of our players is injured... but this is the Caf, so there's none of that around here.

Huh?

He's been really poor the last few games. I mean by his standards, just unavoidably poor. It's now fairly obvious why.

He hasn't been our best or most important player this season either. Our worst midfield performances have all been when he's been playing in it.

I swear the caf is like some surreal alternate universe this season. It's usually a bit odd on here but people are just seeing things that are the complete opposite of what's happening all the time!
