Alas poor Carrick...WTF has happened?

I hope we can find a proper partner for him while he is in his prime. Otherwise it will be a waste. He needs a stage to exact revenge on Barca.

They will still find a way to criticise him....

"not physically imposing enough"
"doesn't take the game by the scruff of the neck etc.."

Well clearly he is, and clearly he has been doing. Showed strength, timing and technique in abundance today. Makes everything look easy.

Pfft, look back at my post in this thread, I was Carrick's biggest detractor a few seasons ago. He's absolutely proved me to be 100% wrong. what a player.

That dink pass to RVP at the end of the first half was excellent, can't believe he got rid of the beard and went back to his usual stubble.

Another superb performance from Carrick today and my man of the match. Has had a fantastic season and one of the stand out players for us and the league in general.

Our player of the season for me. Consistently great performances week in week out. RvP and Rafael run him close but Carrick shades it.

Far and away his best season for us, one of the linchpins of the team. Thank Christ he hasn't picked up any serious injuries this season, our midfield would be in bits without him.

Classy classy player, baffles me that he is so underrated by opposing fans.

I am always hearing "Carrick is shit".

He was even doubted by United fans for quite a while,so its great to see him prove the doubters wrong and become a crucial player for the team.

I use it as a barometer to judge how much the person I'm talking to knows about football. If I hear the line "Carrick is shit" it's safe to assume they know feck all.

If he's the been the best player in the best team surely Carrick should have a shout in winning PoTY this year?

Did anyone else find it weird when RVP called him "Mike" (Least I'm pretty sure it did...) I've never thought of him as a Mike... the man is far too classy to have his named shortened.

He's definitely been getting the media exposure to be in with a shout this time but I doubt he has a chance of getting voted ahead of van Persie never mind Bale.

Which is making no sense to me. Funny how these awards work.

I doubt he'll get nominated let alone win.

I doubt he'll even make the "team of the year". He just isn't the kind of player that gets recognized.

Attackers are usually the only real candidaties, but Carrick's a hundred times better than Parker was when he got that silly award.

I think he will win our POTY, comfortably too.

Rafael second and RVP third (if its even done like that), he's been quality all season and the media have been wanking over it, and Van Persie's drop has come at the exact time that people start to think of things like POTY.

It's hard to think of a central midfielder who's been consistently good this season. I know that Carrick is still underrated but really, who else could get in to the team of the year if not him?

Lampard will get his goals record and he'll slot in there alongside wonderkid Wilshere.

I post on a few general forums and Carrick is the only consistent pick in midfield. EVERY poster has him in, whereas even Arsenal fans think Wilshere hasn't played enough to be considered.

Superb again today, how good has he been for us this season! He's always been one of my favourites, but he's taken it to another level over the last couple of seasons.

See I think people go to extremes myself. I think when he's had his critics that's fair enough. When he's good he's very good. When he's not he's not. This seasons probably been his best and am delighted.

3 or 4 years ago he was 'strongly' linked with moves to Sunderland and Aston Villa. Well played Daily Mail, well played.

The CL final performances have clouded the media and fans' view of him. It's too bad management got the tactics horribly wrong in both finals where Carrick was outnumbered in the middle 3-1.

Was absolutely excellent today, passing, strength, composure, skill...everything needed to play in that position he displayed today.

Well, that, too. But Xavi and Iniesta are both much better players than him. There's no shame in that, of course; being inferior to those two doesn't automatically mean mediocrity. Except, it seems, in the eyes of the British press.

Not necessarily true. He gets his recognition this year (and first half last year, before Scholes returned) because of this:

I just can't believe how authoritative he's looking. Excellent as he's been for us over the years, this is a completely different player.

Player of the season.
Seemed quite shocked on MotD when pointed out he was the oldest United player on the pitch. Vidic is 31 also but younger by a few months.
