Alas poor Carrick...WTF has happened?

Really does take a while to hit some form. Played very well. Him and Tom building some good understanding between them.

Hamstring injury according to Five Live. Just in time for Christmas as well.

Hopefully the fact we didn't even notice anything before HT means it's nothing serious. Certainly replacing him was no brainer.

Carrick is absolutely crucial to us. There is literally no one to take his place. We need to sign a CM in January.

He's not. He's just a freakin slow starter for many years and this should have been addressed imo. It showed again this season.

When on form he can be brilliant, no one denied that but he had some shockers this and the last seasons at the early stages of a season due to that fact.

True, but he has started better this season than last where he was abysmal up till November where he was brilliant throughout most of the rest of the season.

Hamstring never seems to be less than 3 weeks.

All this stuff about Carrick being a slow starter and the surprise at his form is amusing. He's now playing in a midfield in which he's not the only one who can move. That's the difference.

feck sake, we have absolutely no respite from injuries do we? First it was our defenders. As soon as we started getting them back, our midfielders start getting injured. I'm pretty sure our strikers will get injured soon.

We've seen plenty of cases when a player is said to have had a twinge or something, was taken off and came back next week. Like I said, we didn't see him hobble or something so I doubt he's pulled it.

As I remember he barely got a game in the first couple of months when we was starting with Clevs and Ando, Cleverley got injured v Bolton and he came on and done well then started playing Fletcher in his place.

That's what I'm hoping.

SAF: "Everyone ok?"

MC: "Hammy's a bit tight"

SAF: "No problem, get dressed, we're going to need you over the next few weeks"

Next friday:

SAF: " Carrick will be out for three or four weeks".

I was considering getting all RAWK like and describing the smell, the temperature, the perspiration glistening on Carricks's brow as he surveyed the room full of winners who would die for each other, knowing the game was in safe hands. Kitman Albert gripping a fresh Scholes jersey to his nose smelling the intoxicating aroma of Persil, the secret to Uniteds success, ready to pass it on to the ginger genius who was calmly sitting on his own in the corner surveying the latest copy of Tree Monthley.

Wonderful imagery.

Get in Strootman ;)

Yup. Used to be a bit meh about him but he's looked increasingly classy, and his only competition in Carrick's absence would be a man whose bowels are tied in a Gordian knot.

Worst thing about our injury woes as a team is the way it always seems to happen halfway through the player's best performance of the season. Or at least when they're in great form. Evans, Anderson, now Carrick.

Daily Mail have Fergie saying we aren't signing anyone in January.

He was absolutely class in the first half. The difference in the second half when he went off was very clear to see. His pass selections were as good as they get.

Pretty silent thread just after the game.

All he ever does is pass to Scholes eh?

It's too bad for Carrick really. He is just so low-key and plain. Plain transer, plain name, from Newcastle, doesn't hollywood ball, doesn't headless chicken, doesn't yell or scream on the pitch, should score more etc.

His reputation in Europe says there all there is to say, he is a very good midfielder and he is currently keeping our midfield together. He is vital.

To be honest the 'all he ever does is pass to Scholes' line is slightly true when Scholes starts, he is a completely different player when Scholes isn't alongside him - he becomes far more expressive and will look for far more adventurous passes. It's not all self-inflicted as playing alongside Scholes forces him to become more cautious.

In the last couple of games he's been amazing, he ran the whole first half vs Sunderland.

Has it actually been confirmed by anyone at the club that Carrick has actually done his hammy? Big blow if it true as he would have been a very important player for us over the busy Christmas period.

Carrick is the one midfielder we can't really afford to lose to injury.

The difference in the way he plays when not paired with Scholes/Giggs is enormous.

At times he was popping up in the Sunderland box. He can't move forward when paired with one of the pensioneers as they won't cover for him.

He has to stay fit as we need him. To go to the Xmas games with Scholes and Fletch as Cleverleys potential partner does not fill me with much confidence

If(touch wood) he was to miss a few games, twud be nothing short of a disaster. He is such a valuable part of the team it pains me to think of him missing. Has been superb holding fort while playing with Clev recently

Really horrible time for him to get injured, especially as Anderson is also out. Cleverley will probably have to play every game and be partnered with either Fletch or Scholes. I can see why people are calling for Jones as well to form a 3 man midfield.

As much as I dislike seeing Jones in midfield, he would have to be utilized there to provide some extra support/muscle.

If you pull your hanmstring, I don't see how you'd play on without realising and then suddenly realise it's fecked whilst sitting n the changing room doing nothing.

I reckon it was more a precaution because he felt it a bit and will be needed for the games coming up.

Although it would be straight from the United medical school of excellence - "Feel your hamstring a bit? I know, play full pelt until half-time with about 8 midfielders sat on the bench, that'll do(your hamstring)"

As Noodle says, it seems like Carrick was taken off as a precautionary measure.
He's played like 15 out of the last 16 matches, and some are saying his hamstring was a little tight. I'm sure he was taken off to rest him for the next few weeks.
We'll probably see him next week against Swansea, hopefully paired with Cleverley.

True. If you look at the Cleverley goal Carrick actual sees the move before anyone else and directs Cleverley to the space for a give and go. That will never happen when he plays with Scholes because 1. He doesn't have the balls to do that to Scholes 2. Scholes doesn't have the legs to actually make it happen.

Welp we now know Jones will be paired with Cleverley. Fletch will get a game too.

Does anyone have a theory on why Carrick genuinely does have a slow start in every season before hitting his peak at Christmas time? You could see him picking it up week by week in November as happens every year.
