Alas poor Carrick...WTF has happened?

Ugh.. he was pretty awful in defence today.. Stood there ball watching for the first goal.

I've never seen a guy so afraid to stick a leg in..

What the hell. Today we had a midfield and Carrick, was a big part of that. He passed the ball well, intercepted and got stuck in on occasions. How can he be criticised after today?

Great game Carrick. Well played.

I thought he and Cleverley pressed the City midfield well today. Got caught dwelling on the ball in the final third a few times but overall a decent performance.

He was excellent, and I'm a harsh critic of his.

Best midfield performance we've seen all season, Cleverley was incredible.

Defensively I thought he was quite poor especially in the second half. Still his crisp usual attacking self however.

He stood bobbing up and down on the six yard box until the last second when the ball had already been played. Made himself as small as possible for the strike. If he had have pushed up a lot quicker he might have won the ball or at least put him off sweeping home.

He was one of our best players today. Imperious.

He moved deep following another player and as the balls played back he reacts, the exact opposite of the criticism you made. Criticise him if you want but atleast make sense

He tried to intercept the pass and obviously didn't, leaving Toure free.

I thought he was ok, nothing more or less. I still want more from our main CM.

I thought he was fecking excellent. Defensively sound and he used the ball brilliantly almost 99% of the time.

He was awesome today...hope people realise how important he is to our team and the way we play.

Clearly some don't and never will. Midfield is the weakest part of our team but I'd dread to see it without him currently.

Think he was very good today. Apart from Evans, Rio, Young and Rooney I think there was no better.

Come on.. he just receives the ball and passes it on to somebody else. And sometimes he just happens to be in the middle of the pass between two opposition players. That's not intercepting.

Oh, and he only passes sideways.

He was brilliant. His use of the ball is frequently intelligent and purposeful. You can't fault him for playing safe football at the moment. Just watch him and see how many times he decides to switch up the play and play an offensive pass.

Few loose passes but on the whole a brilliant performance. Vitally important to the side.

Thought he was really good, interesting to see there's less criticism of using the wingers when it actually works. He has personally picked up his game from earlier displays this season but I also think it helps having a mobile partner next to him and Rooney just ahead. Only thing I would say is he should try adding a cheeky tactical foul here and there, sometimes silva/nasri were bursting away around the half way line and he could have just knocked them over and take the foul.

Not to blame for the first goal. As well as he has played all season long. Tidy on the ball and never gave it away.

Pretty good today. Benefited from Cleverley's hard work, but also put in a great shift himself. Particularly effective at nullifying Silva, a similar job to the one he did on Cazorla against l'Arse.

Only slight niggle would be that he sometimes lost his discipline in the box. He was the man on Zabaleta for their second goal, and drifted aimlessly off him.

Put an energetic, forward thinking partner with him and he is so much better.

Well the look on his face after it went it showed he was disappointed and could have done more but its harsh to be critical of him after the scrappiness of the previous few minutes.

Like most I think he had one of his best games all season and if that third goal stood we might be raving about him even more. Seems to be hitting his usual Christmas form which is only good for us.

Thought he was probably our second best player behind Rooney. Cleverley seemed to be deliberately playing ahead of him to make sure he always had one of either him or Rooney to pick out...if we'd tried doing that with the Carrick from a few weeks ago we'd have been absolutely mullered, but today he was spot on and only struggled when he was being outnumbered by City's midfield runners.

The difference between his performance today and his performance in the same line up against Chelsea was huge.

Great game from Carrick today, one of the reasons why Toure was kept quiet bar one or two short periods. He always seems to find his form around Christmas time - let's hope he keeps this up.

Is this the time of the season when Carrick transforms himself from a very ordinary player to one of the best midfielders in PL?

More to the point, he was pretty good today.

:lol::lol: I am sure I've made this direct quote to one of my mates.

Noods you could see Silva was dropping right onto him during the first half and at the start of the second. He'd drop onto him to receive a pass then knew he could go through/past him with ease.

I don't doubt he was brilliant going forward but with a little more mobility he really could have exceptional and shut down the City mf completely.

Sarcasm I presume? Sometimes hard to detect on interweb boards.

Silva seems to do that to most people no? His tight control can be very difficult to dispossess

He played very well. Not 'outstanding' as some have said, I've definitely seen him play even better, but I was more than pleased with how he performed in such a difficult game.
