Don’t take this the wrong way highlight reels are a terrible way to judge a player. Go look up all touches juve v inter, will give you a way better feel for his game

good defensively, unadventurous in passing, unadventurous in ball carrying
He doesn't really need to be adventurous next to the right midfielder. He moves the ball around well and doesn't give it away cheaply. There'll be a portion of our fanbase who'll probably never rate him, he is pretty risk averse but hes a good, well rounded midfielder who can mix it at pretty much any and every level and has done previously.

OK, but, but, but–the players we are bringing and the ones already here being overpaid are not top players, anyway. NOBODY in our squad would make it at City or Liverpool. NOBODY. And their players are paid less. How does that make any sense? Especially given that City has more money than us.

As for being a mid-table club. It kills me, but in reality - we already are. This year, we finished 13 points off of 4th place!!! It was pure luck that we didn't finish 8th.

This is just road to nowhere. We are in deep shit and we are sinking even deeper.

I share your frustration. The problem is that we’re paying huge amounts for players who were great before they arrived at OT but then turned to shiteonce they settled in. My evidence?

Di Maria
Mikhtarian
Sanchez
Pogba
Lukaku
Maguire
Wan-Bissaka

The jury is out on Sancho and Varane. I’m sure I’m overlooking a few.

We turn great players into shite. Why?

On a scale of Eric Cantona to William Prunier i'm actually interested to see where this will rank among United's French signings if this goes through :D . Fair to say United that have had more hits than misses with French players or just mixed?

Di Maria didn't turn to shit. He had 6 months of great form at Real reverted to his usual at united and got dropped for a month then decided to leave.
More or less the same with Mikhitariyan. He was great for a year in a great team before reverting to the form he'd shown the previous 4+ seasons and was now in a dysfunctional, shit team being managed by a very different manager.
Sanchez was shit for 6 months before he arrived and not great for a year or so longer before that.
Lukaku was always shit and always will be shit. How well did he do for Chelsea last season when he stopped feeling like it?
Maguire didn't turn to shit any more than our other center backs. 80m was basically accepted as being overpriced the day we signed the deal. All of our signings - young, old, cheap, expensive had a meltdown last season.
Was Bissaka was always crap. Now hes crap that doesn't try very hard.

A more recent game vs Chelsea. Wins tons of physical duels. His passing and ball involvement dropped loads at Juve compared to PSG, hopefully ETH can get that part of his game going again.

Another more recent game vs France.

I get it's a bad window and a massive come down from De Jong. But he'll be our best midfielder by far.

To be fair, Bert or Ernie could sign and be our best midfielder, but you're right - he'd be a major upgrade. If he does sign, he's not enough though - we need someone else in there too. Fred and McTominay have had their chances - they're barely squad players imo.

Literally not one of them is “great”. We don’t turn them into shit. We buy them when they are turning shit and on their way down and others were all just plain shit we should have never even gone close to in the first place.

Cantona and Evra were undoubtedly the most successful. We've also had players like Silvestre and Saha who did well for us. Martial could yet go on to have a good career here. I think French players in general have done well in the prem - not just at United.

Wonder why we did not buy him on free before he moved to Juve. Probably it is a ploy to pressurise barca or Eth’s interested in him.

You worry too much. In Rabiot case he is already shit

There's no throwing the toys out of the pram, the childlike move is to just buy any old crap for the sake of it, crap that will be on big wages and will take up a squad place which in turn hampers our ability to bring in a proper midfielder next summer. Rabiot is crap, bringing him in won't get us closer to top 6, nevermind top 4. As far as the whole "we can't just do nothing" I disagree, doing more with garbage players we are linked to will do something alright, it'll do even more damage to an already badly assembled squad.
I'll give up, you are apparently unwilling or unable to see any other sequence of events than the ones in your mind. As has been repeatedly said, if we sign Rabiot on a stupid contract, it will be a mistake. But up to this point, we DO NOT KNOW what Rabiot is claiming or/and what the club is offering. If you want to cry, before you know there is even a reason a cry, go tigers. I'd probably save the energy for other things.

It depends on what role Rabiot gets here. I believe it won't be the same role he's having at Juve which is shielding the defense. He'll be far more involved here and we know he's technically pretty capable with the ball.

My main concern is his tendency to pass the ball back being his default setting. We'll see how he changes his game here otherwise he'll just be another body hiding in our midfield.

Yes said plenty of times it can't be just him or we all know who will be his partner then

Good point, the Arsenal-France connection is obvious.

Can I poke holes into some of your evidence?
  1. Di Maria - I agree. LvG hated his guts for reasons unknown and tried to ruin him. But Di Maria moved on after us and is still a great player, so clearly United's fault.
  2. Mkhitarian - was a short-term success in Bundesliga and completely failed in EPL. It happens quite often to Bundesliga stars and he was still crap after us, so can't completely blame us. Especially since he played under Jose, who is a qualified manager
  3. Sanchez was a dumb purchase. He was definitely great at his peak but we bought him after he had clearly declined at Arsenal, but for some reason Jose thought he could revive him and was desperate for a burgain-star. It didn't work out. Sanchez was done with his greatness by the time we bought him. We definitely didn't ruin him, he was already ruined, we were just dumb enough to buy him.
  4. Pogba - definitely world-class talent but beyond talent, I think it's 50/50 on us and on himself. Maybe a bit more on us, but let's think if he can be great after us. I am doubtful.
  5. Lukaku, Maguire - were never great. Had decent 1-2 seasons and we put them on pedestal, but overall it is more on them just not being good enough at top level
  6. Wan-Bissaka - limited player that we got early and for cheap and he wasn't able to grow up to greatness. Unfortunately for him, he also came during Ole period and Ole wasn't capable of developing anybody, so that didn't help, but there is some evidence that he has limited abilities anyway.

well no at juve he is really meant to be a box to box player, getting up and down getting tackles in etc. it is his preferred position, you can argue that the team maybe doesn’t play in a way that allows him more freedom, but he is definitely not playing as a shield. Playing as a shield is actually where he has played best previously, but not where he likes to play. Think kante Vs matuidi, he wants to be matuidi. What role he plays here is unknown

He’s a B2B at Juve not a “shield”. Juve’s midfield consists of a deep lying playmaker (regista) that is flanked by 2 B2B’s on either side of him. Locatelli is their deepest midfielder. My presumption is that he’ll take one of Fred or Mctominay’s place with the hope that one more midfield signing will be made which will be the actual DM we’ve been wanting.

So we’re essentially helping Juve get rid of their deadwood to sign their midfield target. Couldn’t make this up. Also, why don’t the club target Paredes? He suits the profile of midfielder we need far more than Rabiot does if FDJ doesn’t come (before even considering that he’s also a superior player).

The most noteworthy thing to come from this saga is seeing people not know what a colour commentator is. People thinking it actually meant black was comedy gold.

Pretty good summery of the situation. The staff that is in charge of recruitment is one of the worst in the PL, we just can't compete with people like this making decisions.

Here is just the thing that I don't get about us. Why doesn't Arnold look at teams like Brighton or even a bit higher up and sees that they have people there who really know what they are doing, true experts in their field who do quality work on a way tighter budget than our staff is doing and fecking hire them? Bayern just snagged the Head Scout from Dortmund, why weren't we interested? Like the guy said "WHAT IS GOING ON???"

Rabiot is better than Paredes though. His time at PSG hasn’t been as good as Rabiot’s. Plus if we got Paredes you would Of just moaned the same way anyway.

You can sign great players all you want doesn't mean you'll have a great team

It's baffling. Recruitment clearly is one of the most important aspects of being a successful club. We're happy to throw away millions on bad signings while at the same time it being obvious we're years behind the likes of Liverpool and Brighton in scouting and analysis, the key behind their success.

Instead go and spend some of the millions on recruiting the very best recruitment staff in the game. Poach the best from other teams if we have to, the whole team will cost a lot less than Rabiots annual wage. Catch up with what everyone else is doing!

I introduced the word 'embarassing' to the CAF and now is the time to introduce another word 'desperate'.

We are now at a stage of 'Embarrassingly Desperate' .

De Jong plays like a roaming playmaker not a deep lying playmaker.

watching Rabiot - he is dribbling all over the pitch, so he looks like a replacement for De Jong rather than a partner.

How about him being the French McT? He is slightly more talented but with worse attitude

Wait people actually want this guy, who tf is in charge of our transfer strategy?

There isn't one now, it's too late, we should have bought Bissouma when Tchouaméni went to Real and we should have dropped the De Jong pursuit weeks ago and went for Fabian Ruiz or Matheus Nunes.

Doesn't matter cause FDJ is coming.

He plays with Kante and Pogba. His job is to destroy and provide defensive protection. He’s the perfect 8 for De Jong playing as a 6. As like you said he likes to roam.
