We’ll have this guy and FDJ within a week I reckon. Boss!

Unlike a lot on here, I’m quite eager to take a punt on this guy. He’s a talent, difficult talent maybe but you never know, like some of our other French players from the past, this could be his destined home!

Plus the fact FDJ/Rabiot could be a very good and balanced midfield

It would certainly be a novelty for us to see a proper, functional midfield for the first time in years.

If we had FDJ and Rabiot, I really would imagine both our defence and attacking players would also look a lot better.

I wonder if we will still pursue Rabiot even if the miracle happens and we bring in De Jong. It appears that we want to play with one deeper midfielder (De Jong) and two 8's like Bruno, Eriksen and Donny. Rabiot can play as an 8, but not as an attack minded/creative one. Would be a strange fit, considering we already have Fred (and err McTominay) to fulfil the role of a 'defensive 8'. Rabiot would be great cover for De Jong, but I doubt that is the plan, nor would it appeal to him.

Neither Fred nor Scott are defensive 8s.

I am of the belief we will get both. Hopefully I’m proved correct but I really think ETH knows even FDJ can’t save midfield on his own. He will have seen enough of McT and Fred to know their limitations.

We get both? One of the best transfer windows I can remember.

I don't believe media bs about Rabiot being trouble. Sometimes media builds up an agenda against certain players like Pogba, Lingard and Raheem Sterling before he called them out and they stopped. What was so bad that Rabiot or his Mum ever did? Unlike Maguire who beat up someone in a pub but you won't see same level of hate because he's british.

Rabiot is better than Paredes though. His time at PSG hasn’t been as good as Rabiot’s. Plus if we got Paredes you would Of just moaned the same way anyway.
I really wouldn’t. Like I already mentioned, Paredes suits the profile of midfielder we need much more if FDJ doesn’t come which I already mentioned in another thread weeks ago before this Rabiot saga came up.

Also, the only thing Rabiot is better than him at is ball progression and dribbling. Paredes is better in every other facet of being a midfielder (although he’s not an elite player himself).

In the event that we get both, I assume it will become an either or situation between Bruno and Eriksen then. Although Eriksen can also play wide, obviously.

I agree. I’d even go so far to say we may see more of Eriksen than Bruno (much as I love the guy). I’m not sure how Bruno’s profligacy will sit with ETH, so either he sorts that out, which he may well do with better coaching, or he’ll find himself on the bench more.

If his mother is his agent, who is his mother?

He plays with Kante and Pogba. His job is to destroy and provide defensive protection. He’s the perfect 8 for De Jong playing as a 6. As like you said he likes to roam.
Not sure many would class De Jong as a 6 though

Yeah, wouldn't be shocked by this. Hopefully the competition will spur Bruno on to reach his previous levels.

Great but Rabiot is being brought to play with FDJ. So if we got Paredes then what? We partner him with Rabiot? They you really would kick off

Fred is. Scott is more of a very average midfielder who is slightly better defensively than he is on the ball so gets called a defensive 8.
Neither are, it’s why we are so shit defensively despite playing with 2 defensive players in midfield.

There’s a reason why Fred performs better when he’s played further up the pitch.

Scott, the less said the better. Hopefully his run in the first team would end soon because he’s rubbish.

He spends a lot of time in a 6 position when I’ve seen him especially in old Ajax games he was very close to the CB.

If you get a chance rewatch Ajax vs Real Madrid at the Bernabou (However you spell it)

It will be a Christmas miracle if United line-up with FDJ and Rabiot against Liverpool.

Hope this goes through

Would have rather had Lee Cattermole than seeing McTominay starting again

Fred is a harrier-destroyer. It means he isn't suited to playing the deepest role where intelligent positioning is the single most important aspect (both on and off the ball). He is much better when his partner is doing that role, allowing Fred to be a true box-to-box midfielder but whose strengths are more focused on the defensive and ball-winning side of things. I'd consider those types of players (Kante is the obvious comparison) defensive 8's, even though these players shouldn't actually be playing the outright 'defensive midfielder' role by themselves.

I remember a few years ago a lot of people were talking about Kante being 'finished' at the top level as his performances had plummeted when Chelsea tried to play him in the deeper role for a while. Unsurprisingly as soon as he was pushed into the more 'free' role he became absolutely world class again. Likewise Fred plays better for Brazil where he has either Fabinho or Casemiro beside him, better for us the one period we played him in that role under Rangnick, and presumably better for Shakhtar which made us spend 50m on him.

Yep. If he gets back to form, exactly what we need.
Don’t think many people doubt his quality. It’s his attitude that’s questionable. We don’t want another pogba/lingard. That will have a bad impact on the rest of the team.

Well if that’s the case then this signing makes more sense! But as far as I’ve seen, we haven’t signed FDJ yet.

And I guess if we got Paredes (which we won’t) after signing Rabiot it would most likely be because we couldn’t get FDJ. In that scenario, it wouldn’t have been ideal but it’s still better than McFred.

Do we get a different option striker and RB too, if so it will have been saved somewhat

Will rabiot be in addition to de Jong/another cm? Rabiot and de Jong coming in would be a great bit of business and will defo improve our midfield.

Is he willing to not be a complete bellend and play a more defensive minded role? I doubt it.

Rabiot, dejong and Morata on loan plus a Degea backup (replacement) will make this a 10/10 window for me. Degea spreads nerves through the team and I would start any other keeper above him...honestly.
