Colour commentators are often former athletes or coaches of the sport being broadcast. The term colour refers to levity and insight provided by a secondary announcer. A sports colour commentator customarily works alongside the play-by-play broadcaster. Stop trying to level racism at everything for the love of god.
Classic redcafe hyperbole.

This is where stats can be misleading and also the players have had different roles over the years. I'd say Rabiot in McTom's shoes against Brighton when deeper plays a better ball out. We've all seen how poor our midfielders have been for a few years, he's not first choice but at this stage I think he's worth consideration, we can't continue with McTom and Fred and replay the summer window.
In general, he wouldn't needlessly give the ball away, fail to protect the ball and have complete trampoline foot.

Still think we should be going for Paredes instead. He's got a bit more physicality about him and has a far better passing range.

He has no physicality, he is a defensive liability, and is generally unadventurous with his passing.

My only gripe with this possible transfer are his salary demands. Like people already mentioned, players on big contracts are hard to sell.

No, he isn't. And it's not even close.
Well I obviously disagree, great counter argument btw. I see Rabiot as better at pressing and covering the ground, he's obviously physically bigger, and I think he's a more intelligent footballer. He's also more versatile which could be an important factor for us.

Paredes is more likely to dive into tackles and blocks, and put his body on the line. He's more tenacious in how he defends, as are a lot of Argentinians stereotypically. But crucially, I think paredes is better suited to moving the ball from back to front quickly, he can see and execute passes between the lines far quicker.

I'm excited to see what rabiot can do and I think many here don't appreciate his ability, but I've always been a fan of paredes, since his days in Italy. We should've signed him before he went to Russia.

Unfortunately he isn't and that's mainly why he has never managed to replace Rabiot as a starter. Paredes physicality and intensity are very inconsistent, you can get 25 minutes at a good level out of him but he will be useless the rest of the game which is why he was a backup

@JPRouve is a scout on here and located in France...been extremely knowledgeable with French players and given fair assessments of them (and others). I'd honestly take his word over Lou's and 99% of people on here and Reddit, about Rabiot.

Point is, Rabiot may not be a world class player, but his performance floor is not as low and totally liable when compared to McTominay and to some degree, Fred. These are the types of signings EtH has to get and coach up, with the aim to get better players in as the team improves and moves up the table as consistent Top 4 again with the view to challenge reasonably for the title.

At minimum, it's refreshing to see Murtough go to these in persons and not Woodward.

No one should take my words for it, I'm not an authority. I try to tell the truth about what I have seen in players that I have watched. Paredes has been a pointless footballer since 2018 but you have to watch him to believe it while Rabiot has been disappointing but significantly better.

You don't even know how much he's going to get paid

At Juve he's on 145k GBP p/w gross (and that too because he was a free transfer). I assume we won't give him much more than that here.
Literally none of what you said is true

Rabiot reportedly earns around €7m (£5.93m) per year with Juve, which equates to roughly £113,000 per week, but he has his eye on a pay rise in Manchester

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Rabiot is demanding wages of over €10million (£8.46m) per season on a three-year contract. He also wants a guarantee over Champions League football factored into his agreement, after United finished last season in sixth place – 13 points adrift of qualifying for the Champions League.

If the reports in Italy are correct then Rabiot is asking for a wage of around £162,692 per week, which would equate to a pay rise of around £50,000 per week from his Juve deal. That would be his gross pay, however, with those who earn over £150,000 per year in the UK having to pay a tax rate of 45 per cent.

If he's fit I'd be pleased to see Rabiot at Man Utd. He's a good player, who I think would give a consistent level of performance, and is technically more adept than our current first choice midfielders.

A fair point, but until we start winning trophies again we're not bringing in top players on low wages. Bit of a dilemma we're facing, unless all of us really are ok with United being a midtable side for the next 3-4 seasons.
OK, but, but, but–the players we are bringing and the ones already here being overpaid are not top players, anyway. NOBODY in our squad would make it at City or Liverpool. NOBODY. And their players are paid less. How does that make any sense? Especially given that City has more money than us.

As for being a mid-table club. It kills me, but in reality - we already are. This year, we finished 13 points off of 4th place!!! It was pure luck that we didn't finish 8th.

This is just road to nowhere. We are in deep shit and we are sinking even deeper.

This is a great video showing what we are getting in Rabiot and how last season was an anomaly in his stats. He is miles better than his performances last year. It was a really crap set up at Juve.

ETH is the first Manager we’ve had since Fergie who’s street smart enough to go after these kinds of signing’s. To rebuild a broken squad like ours you won’t afford 10 player signings so you identify a couple of low budget smart signings to plug a few holes such as Eriksen on a free and Rabiot for £15 instead of McTominay who’s been stinking up the place for 4 fecking years. There’s a reason Rabiot has been consistently playing for top clubs even with all his Mum agent issues.

Don’t take this the wrong way highlight reels are a terrible way to judge a player. Go look up all touches juve v inter, will give you a way better feel for his game

good defensively, unadventurous in passing, unadventurous in ball carrying

So if FDJ isn't coming, what would be your solution?

There isn't one now, it's too late, we should have bought Bissouma when Tchouaméni went to Real and we should have dropped the De Jong pursuit weeks ago and went for Fabian Ruiz or Matheus Nunes.

This is the exact opposite of being pragmatic. The kid who throws his toys comes into mind. I mean, I can relate to you being frustrated about how things went this transfer window, I am disappointed as well, but we can't just sit and put our heads in the sand because it didn't go exactly the way we intended. There is no point in dying in beauty - if we just throw the season away we won't be closer to a potential CL place, we will have less chances of bringing in commercial partners and so on.

I agree with many on here, the Rabiot deal has damage potential. But lets face it, we won't just sit on the money to double the spending in a year. Thats naive BS. Nobody asks for the club to do bad business now, but not doing any business would be the worst thing to do. I get the concerns about Rabiot, I would have hoped to bring in somebody who instills more hope but beggers can't be choosers. Maybe he will suprise us and if not, at least we tried. As long as wo don't sign him on a longterm deal, we should be fine.

There's no throwing the toys out of the pram, the childlike move is to just buy any old crap for the sake of it, crap that will be on big wages and will take up a squad place which in turn hampers our ability to bring in a proper midfielder next summer. Rabiot is crap, bringing him in won't get us closer to top 6, nevermind top 4. As far as the whole "we can't just do nothing" I disagree, doing more with garbage players we are linked to will do something alright, it'll do even more damage to an already badly assembled squad.

He's generally quite good at carrying the ball if you look at previous years. But anyway yeah, a mix of good defending and safe passing is what we need in midfield right now.

When ETH went to Ajax, the club was drowning like we are now. He brought Dusan Tadic, Daley Blind and Haller in his second team rebuild after most of the first generation players were cannibalized by Europe’s elite and look how that turned out.
The improvement Rabiot will bring over Mctominay will be earth shattering…. honestly. We’ve been a broken club for far too long conceding goals right left and center for far too long now. There’s a reason clubs like Psg and Juventus don’t collapse and stay down for as long as we have.. because they’re savvy enough in recruitment to always ensure a high bottom. Mctominay would probably never start for the other top 10 teams yet we go into countless champions league encounters with him as our anchor man.

With 3 CM signings this summer once they finish up Fabian Ruiz, on top of Vitinha and Renato Sanchez with Veratti still there and Danilo their most recent DM buy just a year ago, surely Paredes would be available from PSG this summer. Stats wise he's more adventurous and dominating in his passing whilst less of a ball winner and physical than Rabiot. They would likely make a good partnership upgrade on Fred and McTom.

Certainly wouldnt be as eye catching as getting De Jong + Rabiot, but far more realistic and still better than the options we have +Eriksen and Fred rotating in or playing as a 3 if we went to 3 in midfield

The same reasons which can be applied to Lukaku having had more transfer fees spent on him than anyone else in football history and why players like Morata also consistently play for 'top' clubs

People who make decisions at certain football clubs are stupid

Juve are getting him, in place of rabbit hole.

That's also why you shouldn't look at one game, one of his biggest assets was his ball carrying when he's on form. The issue we've got is whether he gets his form back from a couple of years ago or not.

Exactly. And he won't come in and single-handedly transform the club, but that kind of signing doesn't really exist any more anyway. If it did/when it does, it would suggest the system and coaching isn't up to scratch.

He's not what we need. And he's not suitable next to the one we do need. Meanwhile we're being super economical in the market and this guy earns a fecking ton. 20m too, with a year left and they can't wait to shift him so they can get the profile of player we actually need (Jorginho, while we chase the real deal).

Juve fans must truly love United.

Rabiot is a good signing imo if we can also get Frenkie and play him next to Frenkie as I see Rabiot to have the skill set to compliment Frenkie de Jong. If the plan is to play him next to Fred or McTominay then it’s very underwhelming signing.

A more recent game vs Chelsea. Wins tons of physical duels. His passing and ball involvement dropped loads at Juve compared to PSG, hopefully ETH can get that part of his game going again.

Another more recent game vs France.

I get it's a bad window and a massive come down from De Jong. But he'll be our best midfielder by far.

Yeah I'm not saying that Rabiot is a game changer by any means but with the midfield we've got it should be seen as a positive if we get it over the line. McFred causes so many issues that anyone that is a significant upgrade should be seen as a good thing.

When I say with him and FDJ going into top 6 midfield battles…….

We are going to smoke.

I wasn't sure but after reading some of the assessments here I'm more optimistic and a little excited to see some decent midfield quality in our team.
