What happen to meeting a player in a service station offering his family a house and a fancy car and signing the deal there and then.

Sick to death of this new system. Takes ages.

yeah. if fergie was still here he’d just tell that veronica that he’s got photoshopped images of her pissing in the trevi fountain that he’ll release to the press unless she takes her son out of italy and to manchester. done deal.

The teams call was scheduled for Tuesday but she wanted to meet in person but admin couldn’t get approval to fly to Turin until Friday As we are now net zero and reducing our annual air miles.

How have we ended up chasing Rabiot when so many midfielders better than him have been on the market this summer.

My concern with Rabiot is he is better as an attacking midfielder really

He literally is not. His best performances came played as a 6 or a defensive 8 with PSG. He wanted to be an attacking midfielder but that is where his performances fell off. If he has matured enough to realize he is better at the defensive side of the job and is willing to perform that role for us then I would be optimistic that he could make a significant improvement to our team.

Suggestions have already been made in this thread and ohers. But I'll give one - Renato Sanches would have been great before PSG snapped him up. Pretty much any midfielder from top 10 team of other leagues would do the job for a modest amount of money. Why are we the only club that don't have a scouting network that can identify decent players for tidy sums? I'm not talking about wonderkids from Brazil here, just good players who are ready to make a step to a big club. We don't have that. Even with Fregie's "no value in the market" bullshit, we still managed to capture a lot of decent players for very little money.

We just lost Pogba (which I am quite more than happy with) in order to replace him with the Pogba's substitute... Okay...

To me, Rabiot for 17m sounds just like a decent player for a tidy sum. Quite unlike Pogba. Renato Sancez has, maybe like Rabiot, been up and down in quality. I don’t think he’s a good fit for what United needs, maybe unlike Rabiot. I’m not sure what makes you think that Sanchez will make the step up and Rabiot not. Or that every midfielder in a top 10 team would do a better job for a lesser fee. Maybe it’s to do with your claims that he is a primadonna and brings hassle, but if those claims are just unfounded rumours, then there isn’t much to worry about, is there?

He didn't want to be an attacking midfielder. To make it simple, he likes the role that Matuidi had with PSG, he was developed in a similar role but it happens that it's not his best role.

i think as the only verified frenchman here, i am the most qualified to define his role in the side. i can confirm that Adrien Rabiot-Provost (French pronunciation: [adʁijɛ̃ ʁabjo pʁovo]; born 3 April 1995) is a French professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Serie A club Juventus and the France national team.

Rabiot spent most of his career with Paris Saint-Germain, making his debut with the first team in 2012 and winning eighteen major honours, including five Ligue 1 titles and a domestic treblein 2015–16 and 2017–18. In 2019, Rabiot signed for Juventus on a free transfer, winning the Serie A title during his first season with the club and the Coppa Italia in his second.

Rabiot was capped 53 times for France at youth level, and made his debut for the senior team in 2016, later taking part at UEFA Euro 2020.

indeed I agree, may I also add that

Rabiot was born in Saint-Maurice, Val-de-Marne.[6] He played youth football for several teams, including two spells at Créteil-Lusitanos and a few months at Manchester City.[7] On 2 July 2012, after excelling at the Camp des Loges, he signed his first professional contract agreeing to a three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain.[8]

Rabiot was promoted to the senior team by manager Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2012–13 season.[9] In the club's pre-season he started in the penalty shootout defeat to Barcelona,[10] and, on 26 August, played his first game in Ligue 1, a 0–0 home draw against Bordeaux.[11]

Rabiot made his UEFA Champions League debut on 6 November 2012, playing during injury time in a 4–0 group stage home win over Dinamo Zagreb.[12] In January of the following year he was loaned to fellow league side Toulouse,[13] scoring his first professional goal on 9 March 2013 which was the game's only goal at Brest, from 25 yards.[14]

I just can't get over the fact that his mother is his agent.

So if they're meeting tomorrow, but our reckoning we should be able to agree personal terms about... 2 weeks from now?

he iz ze epitome ov ze french footballeh. you can find him wandering around ze pitch wiv a rolled up cigarette in one ‘and an’ a small glass of ze ‘ouse red in ze other. his motheh sit on a bistro set on ze sideline an’ barks orders at ‘im like a dog.

I would be intrigued IF we got him and De Jong but underwhelmed if just him because means Fred/Mctominay stay as first choice

Frenkie is unlikely, but without him, I could see a midfield like this working quite well:

Rashford Martial Sancho
Fred Rabiot
Eriksen

Basically Eriksen picking the ball up off the defenders and being the deep playmaker with license to roam. Rabiot and Fred both box to box, Rabiot being the defensive guy, Fred being an attacking link up play guy (he's actually quite good at that role with his close dribbling and close quarters link up). They both offer bundles of energy and closing down as well, while the main ball progression comes from Eriksen. Fred's give aways wouldn't be so costly either in that position like they are when he plays deep.

feck him if he doesn't want to move on what should be a better than structure for the club.

i fail to see how this would be a problem. matic was probably on similar wages. certainly wouldnt break our wage structure.
135k a week. Its nothing to be honest. Suppose its just negotiations and getting the best deal possible, wouldn't hurt for a change.

People who compare him to McTominay must’ve never seen Rabiot play. There’s more to being a midfielder than just progressive passes. Rabiots positioning is infinitely better than McTominay, he isn’t shy to receive the ball and he would help bring structure to the side.

A few interesting quotes that stood out to me from The Athletic article -

“Then-Toulouse coach Alain Casanova told RMC he never had a problem with Adrien during his time on loan from PSG in 2013. He did, however, claim he had to push back on Veronique wanting to attend all her son’s training sessions. “I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable with his team-mates, seeing that his mother was on the sidelines.”

^this cracked me up, she looks absolutely solid from the pic in the article haha

“It matters that Rabiot has averaged 40 games a season in three seasons at the Allianz Stadium. He can, unlike Pogba, be relied upon to be fit and healthy enough to play regularly.”

^we need this

“It’s his physicality and athleticism that stand out. In terms of pressure regains, StatsBomb data shows he made 5.02 per 90 minutes in Serie A last season, which was comfortably the most of any Juventus player.”

^again this sounds good

I’d say bissouma would of been an upgrade on both. For just 25m aswell. That would of left us enough to bring in maybe another mid or an attacker.
No idea if this player would fit Erik's system but I'm sure there are alternatives to McFred. I think Ten Hag has given them enough chances but the club really should have been on the lookout for replacements in every position anyways if the manager was not satisfied with the current crop.

I really hope going forward that we are more proactive when it comes to recruitment. Keep an eye on targets years in advance. Have a plan B,C,D and E if need be.
That said with United the most basic things are often the most difficult.
