Well whilst it is true to say he was better at psg, and it’s because he is played out of position is not right either. His tackling and pressures far exceed McTominay's (Rabiot at 85th percentile for tackles, 90th percentile for tackles won, 98th percentile for defensive 3rd tackles, 92nd percentile with successful pressures, 93rd percentile for defensive third pressures, 87th percentile for passes blocked, etc).
McTominay with these stats has 55th, 24th, 82nd, 22nd, 56th, 49th (in order).
Defensively, Rabiot even in a shit season like last season is on another level to McTominay. And if you look at every other season with Rabiot, his passing is consistently very good, but unadventurous (or if you look at PSG where he actually played as the deepest midfielder pretty often, his progressive passing was very good as well).

See for yourself! Go through the seasons. Rabiot's defensive stats have always been good. At Juve he didn't play in his best role, but his defensive stats were still good, and his passing stats were generally very decent, just not progressive. And he didn't give the ball away constantly. His ball carrying is what fell last season for whatever reason (but still had better ball carrying than McTominay).
at juve he ia playing in his preferred position, he maybe a better dim, but previously never wanted to play there. He has never been a progressive passer, his stats may have been better at psg for passing but I wouldn’t put too much store in it. If you have to go back 4-5 years to find a time he was good at that maybehe has just not kicked on.
also saying we should just ignore last season is disingenuous too, this is a player looking at 15-16m euros per year. I think it’s reasonable to be worried, and that he comes with no certainty of ever getting back to 2/3 years ago never mind 4-5.
he is more talented than mctominay, whether he can turn that in a a whole other game. Having a guy on even 3 years with no recent track record as good in his preferred role is definitely a debate
Is he better than anything we have been linked with, yeah, but people who think we are getting fm2015 rabiot will be calling for him to go.
