Adnan Januzaj

Agreed. Young players being naive is par for the course, and to be expected if we want to keep nurturing young players. We have to accept we they will make mistakes if we want them to play for us. A failed through ball or dribble through defenders is less frustrating to me than watching some of our current static attackers get tackled from not even having a go.

I think Ross Barkley is a good recent example. He does more bad than good on the pitch at the moment, trying to take on too much, perhaps trying to dribble past too many player. He loses the ball alot from risky passes and dribbles, but he's reinforced that Martinez wants him to take these risks and learn from them. It's worth it if he manages to get a goal or an assist or two, and he continues to learn. Let Januzaj be positive and make mistakes. He'll round his game and learn from it.
Exactly.
Creativity needs to be encouraged not stifled.

Well we've got him until the end of the season, so I guess as fans we should just enjoy what he brings to the side within that time.

He's 18. He may put complete faith in what his parents and agent tell him. And the money may be all they may want.

And if a Barca comes in for him they may tell him he will have a guaranteed first team place. It would be bullshit. But enough to get him to sign.

He could very easily go elsewhere. That's football I'm afraid.

What are you talking about.... Tello and Sanchez just about get a game. He's not going to walk into the Barca team they have a guy called Messi who isn't bad. He'll sign a new contract and develop, like Moyes said why would any kid want to leave United.

Something is really bad in this world if your ancestry (ie grandparents) determines what and who you are.

Something is bad with this world if people forget what they are. The reason why Januzaj was born in Belgium and not Kosovo wasn't because his parents just decided hey let's go to Belgium and became Belgian people, but because there was a terrible war there and a lot of Kosovans were forced to leave their homes. So please, stop becoming smart, especially if you have no clue on what are you talking about.

Are you drunk? If English is not your first language then I would understand. Did you read the the whole bolded part? Big difference between promising a place to get someone to sign and it being reality. And I did not only mean Barca.

Januzaj's a much better player than Tello anyway.

The latest *news* I heard was his agent saying his family had agreed to continue talks with United, right?

No new news, are we just worried because we are preparing for the worse? So we can all say 'I knew this would happen anyway', or have I missed something?

Seems a bit excessive to me, but if that's what it'll take to tie him down it'll be worth it.

Well if he continues with this level of performance I guess you'd have to consider what we'd have to pay if we bought him from someone else both in transfer fee and wages. Can imagine Rooney and Ronaldo got a fair bit when they joined and expectations have only gone up.

The question it is clubs policy letting contracts run down to final year? It was pretty obvious Pogba and Adnan were outstanding talents a couple of years back.

When players sign as Academy players they can't sign professional contracts until they are 17.

So normally United offer them a 2+1 or a 2+2

That is...a two year Academy deal 15-17 then a one or two year pro deal.

Most kids have agents who don't let them sign long term deals as the Pogba case showed.

But it also works in United's favour. If a kid doesn't progress then he is released at 18/19. Best all around.

It's the second contract that is the important one...

£50,000 a week as an eighteen year old, fecking hell.

Having said that, age is irrelevant. Quality is all that matters.

Keeping Januzaj should be a bigger priority than signing someone in the January window. He looks to be a rare talent, and the added satisfaction of his coming through the ranks means that we simply must keep him. If Woodward and Moyes feck this up, then we really have cause to worry about this new regime.

Is Woodward in charge of new contracts for our current players as well? Scary thought if this is true. I hope they tie him down quickly.

Moyes' latest comments that he's not worried about Adnan's contract situation because he can't fathom why a young player would want to leave Manchester United, reeks of the same naivety that messed up our the summer transfer dealings.

Woodie's a smart chap. I cant see him fecking up twice in a short space of time.

Would even so much easier to say the club are working on it and things are looking positive, or something along those lines.

Manchester United have offered Adnan Januzaj a staggering £60,000 a week to stay at Old Trafford after his matchwinning display at the Stadium of Light.
The 18-year-old, another product of Belgium’s golden generation, marked his first Barclays Premier League start with two goals — the second a stunning left-foot volley — as David Moyes’s struggling side came from behind to claim three points.
And, with the attacker’s contract set to expire in eight months and several clubs interested in signing him, the United boss is eager to secure a deal to keep his new star.

United have yet to lose at the Stadium of Light in the Barclays Premier League. Their last defeat at Sunderland was in 1997, when Kevin Ball captained the home side.
One man who has been impressed is team-mate Wayne Rooney, who is well qualified to pass judgment on precocious teenage talent.
Januzaj’s style and swagger offers a reminder of that shown by Rooney when he burst on to the scene at Everton. ‘He’s very confident,’ Rooney said. ‘A lot of the young players who come through are a little bit timid and shy, but he looks comfortable and he’s confident in his own ability, which you need to be.
'He takes the ball, he runs at players and he’s got great ability. I think it’s great the manager has thrown him into the side, especially with what has happened in the last few games.’

Januzaj’s two goals also took the heat off Moyes, a manager who has never hesitated to blood young talent. It was Moyes who gave Rooney his debut at Everton and more recently Ross Barkley.
Januzaj, who has impressed since the summer, deserves mention in the same breath.
‘He has been so good, it was hard to stop him,’ said Moyes, who looks set to lose Marouane Fellaini for a few weeks due to a wrist injury.
‘I remember giving Wayne his debut, and Adnan is certainly that quality. He has got goals, he has got ability on the ball, but we will keep his feet on the ground.’

Young talent: United boss David Moyes has given Januzaj a chance to shine as he did with Rooney at Everton

The only blot on his copybook was a yellow card for diving.
Rooney also backed Moyes, insisting he is not to blame for United’s struggles. ‘A new manager has come in and we haven’t been good enough,’ he said. ‘We know it’s us who have let him down.’
Sunderland caretaker boss Kevin Ball is to meet owner Ellis Short today to make his pitch for the full-time job. The former captain, whose side took the lead through Craig Gardner, has been in charge for the three games since Paolo Di Canio’s sacking.
Short remains open-minded on Di Canio’s successor but director of football Roberto De Fanti is thought to favour Gus Poyet. Tony Pulis and Alex McLeish have also been linked with the vacancy.
Ball said: ‘I spoke to the chairman before the game. It was nice that he came to the dressing room beforehand and wished us all the best. It’s an ideal time for a decision to be made. The players and staff have all mucked in because they want success for this club.
‘I keep saying to them it’s not just for now. It should be forever. You should know who and what you represent and what you need to do to go about being the best.’

Were there articles like this about Pogba too?

Doesnt really matter what he's paid as it'll definitely be less than Young, who he will be pushing out the door in the summer

So, he definitely deserves to start our next game, right? Can't imagine why he'd be on the bench with anyone starting ahead of him, 18 years old or not.

The reason why someone has left a place means very little to be honest. If a person was born and had lived in a place all his life then I struggle to understand how he don't feel part of that community but of a community he hadn't lived in in the first place.

I'm going to assume that you're a white English male. If you grew up in India, would you dismiss being English and class" yourself as Indian?

If I was born and had been raised there all my life then why not? I am not saying that one shouldn't be proud of his ancestry. What I am saying is that I would feel more at ease with the community I was born in and had lived in all my life rather then a community which I have never really lived in in the first place.

Definitely, he's earned a starting spot.

Him being dropped for Young would be depressing.
I think it only makes sense for us too. He's full of confidence as opposed to players who are really struggling with it.

Yup, especially because everyone else will have international football and he'll have a 2 week break.

You really can't understand it unless you're in the same situation. Pretty much everyone from an ex-yugo nation feels more at home wherever their ancestry is, even though they were born and raised elsewhere.

I think that I understand it more then you think. The need to immigrate somewhere else is not exclusive to Bosnia my friend.

I don't know where you're from or anything, so obviously I don't know how you would look at it. All I'm saying is that I know for a fact how people from that part of the world see it in comparison to other nationalities here in Canada. And in general, Bosnians/Serbians/Croatians etc. are a lot prouder of their ancestry's culture and background then others.

good to see him getting goals on his first proper start for us. Cracking second goal and so confident on the ball. Half the time it looks like he is just gliding past players.

Need to get his contract sorted out quickly

Wasn't on here after the match so didn't see the reaction but I can only imagine how positive it was. Hopefully Moyes got some of the credit too for playing him. Thought he was decent but obviously his goals are what it will be remembered for. Hope to see more.
