What do we know about the contract situation? I will be fuming if this becomes another Pogba debacle. We have lost a few good players lately whom shone in their early years here.

We know that Moyes said talks are progressing, and he's confident Januzaj will sign.

If a young player of ours that we are desperate to keep is stalling on a contract...You get the feeling that Juventus have put a very healthy figure into a Swiss bank account for the lads fathers already as they prepare to welcome him to Italy

..except we don't know if he is stalling on contract because Moyes said recently that talks are progressing.

Rafael is the only one among our young foreign imports who have established themselves in the first team. Pique, Rossi, Zieler and Pogba are enjoying successful careers elsewhere, while the jury is still out on Januzaj and Fabio. Januzaj should make it here, and Moyes can not do more to convince him to sign a new deal, but if he too decides to leave then we may as well stop developing these foreign youngsters and just buy the mature players for our first team.

I think we can say that if contract negotiations with an 18 year old take this long, there's a problem. Talks with Paul Pogba were progressing for months, until he eventually progressed onto a plane bound for Turin.

We've got to pull out all the stops for Januzaj - he's going to be a star. But I'm increasingly hopeful he'll force his way into the team, which should solve all our problems.

None of us have any idea how long contracts usually take with an 18 year old though. They usually just happen, without any of daily/weekly requests for updates that pepper this thread. Whenever a young player does sign a new contract, none of us have the vaguest clue how many weeks/months beforehand negotiations began.

In this instance, his rapid development means the negotiations suddenly have an incredibly high profile. Whether or not this has had any effect on the duration is anyone's guess. As you say, though, the amount of first team action he is getting can only be a positive.

To be fair, Januzaj is getting more chances and his overall demeanor is positive as compared to Pogba who used to be grumpy. Even in U21 games, Januzaj is always smiling and eager and talked about "grabbing chances when offered" rather than saying/indicating, "I am too good, play me in each game or am off". This alone can't be proof that he will definitely sign, but I am more hopeful of him signing than I was about Pogba.

I won't go by the demeanor. He's a nice kid. Him not seeing his future here doesn't mean that he has to be grumpy for the time he is here. He has not been given any reason to not be happy. He is in the first team squad, getting regular game time in matches at critical junctures. If he ends up not signing a new contract, it will only be because he has been offered an insane amount of cash elsewhere.

If he's offered a big sum elsewhere I hope we top it. We have to keep this kid. He's going to be amazing.

We have something here, no question about it. The lad is fearless, yet he isn't cocky at all. That's a rare combination. He looks uncommonly mature as a player for his age.

He was taken off after an hour hopefully with the weekend in mind

I know SAF put him on the bench in his final game and praised him a lot but I genuinely don't think he'd have played as much as he has in the first team this season so far already if SAF was still in charge. Think he'd have broken him in eventually but to bring him in from the start has been a pleasant surprise.

Lovely strike, he's got some left foot on him eh? One thing that really sticks out to me is his fluidity. He never seems to stutter or think twice about what he does, and his running on and off the ball, his passing all are done so smoothly. The criticism of him coming on for Kagawa was OTT, for the fact he actually had a better 2nd half than Shinji's first half, and looked more threatening. He's only 18 bloody years old, he will be some player in his peak barring any substantial injury.

"I'm not going to say which teams are interested in him, but I can tell you that there is interest from several European clubs," Januzaj's agent Dirk De Vriese told the Belgian media.

"The departure of Sir Alex Ferguson caused a break in the negotiations. But we are back working on the talks. I have already from Adnan's family an agreement to communicate.

"There have already been many emails and faxes sent from the (national) associations to inquire about his future. In Albania there are even entire television shows organised to convince him to choose the Albaian national team, but he remains very calm about it himself."

that several clubs are after him and fergies retirement caused breaks in the talks however we're discussing a new contract and his parents have given permission to communicate. communicate to who? i dont know it doesnt say

Sounds to me like they are working on a deal again after the upheaval in the summer.

We might as well shut the youth system down if we lose Pogba and Januzaj in two consecutive years.

Judging by what moyes said about him now having to cement a first team spot then it looks like we will see a heck of a lot more of him. this season i reckon he'll make it. he will progress a huge amount.

His agent said the same thing about 2 months ago so he's either repeating himself or else the quotes are being repeated

I remember him saying something similar but not this exactly. I don't remember him saying that his family had told him to reach an agreement with United.
He doesn't say that here either he says that his family told him to speak with united
