He seemed to be under instruction in the second half to keep the width on the left IMO, which I think limited him a little bit, but in general it helped the team overall.

No suprise that Evra got the space twice after some clever link up play with Januzaj and Mata.

The great thing is being his age, he stood out no less than any of the experienced guys he was playing with.
I noticed it in the first half as well. I definitely think Moyes wants us to play with at least one 'orthodox' wide player providing genuine width. Probably not too unwise given that Mata was allowed to roam with very few limitations and we could become overly narrow if Januzaj instinctively drifted inside a lot too. As much as I prefer him drifting inside, it didn't stifle his play too imo.

I'd like to see Mata and Januzaj swapping wings during a game. We saw Rooney interchanging positions with the two of them at times and there's no reasons why the two can't swap positions especially as I think Januzaj looks good from the right.

Yep exactly what I was thinking. We've clearly tried Mata from both flanks and IMO decided he is better from the right, allowing him to cut in naturally onto his left foot. Against Arsenal it was fairly clear he did not seem comfortable there, I feel Januzaj's slight pace/agility advantage over Mata makes him suit that role better.

A good manager will get the best from any set of players. If he has to assemble his dream team before his capabilities can be judged, he's not a good manager.

Like fergie kept all his players at the start of his utd career and just made the best of what he had?

Every manager does it their own way and brings in their own players that's how football works.

Hardly the point I was making. A new manager will of course look to improve the squad over time. But he won't just throw his hands in the air, dismiss the players he's inherited and say: 'I can't do anything with this shower.'

Most new managers don't have the luxury of wholesale changes. Their first job is to improve the productivity of the personnel already at the club. Dave has done the reverse - in spades.

Januzaj did pop up on the right during the CP game and obviously Mata was all over the place, including way on the left. Mata isn't playing the traditional winger role where he needs to swap with whoever is on the opposite wing to where he starts with. Not like when Nani/Valencia were switched or in days gone by when Ronaldo used to get switched with whoever was on the other side so he could go at the other fullback.

What I do agree with is if say during a game we see that the fullback on the opposite side is having a so-so game then to put Januzaj on that side for an extended period to have a real go at him - not just pop up on the other side then go back after a bit.

Good to give him a break before he goes of to play internationals... Maybe Moyes doesn't know that Januzaj isn't an international footballer yet.

Great decision Moyes. Leave him in Manchester for a knockout tie in the champions league, rest him for our game 2 weeks from now, even though he's started 1 game in the last month, despite him being our second best player this season.
Can't believe some people really still believe in shite like players being too young and they have to stay out of the spot light. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

Has only played around 1 in 5 now I think. Inexplicably dropped basically for no apparent reason and replaced with the usual bilge from Val and Young.

I just pray to god that he isn't given the Barkley treatment by Moyes. We simply cannot let this boy's progress stagnate to accommodate trash like Cleverley.

Makes no sense, why does clev impact januzaj, they don't play the same position at all, lord knows if he thinks clev brings similar qualities as Januzaj.

If he didnt have a knock then its quite worrying if he thinks Valencia is playing well enough to contine to play regularly. I've said it before but if kagawa/nani leave in the summer and Valencia stays then that's pretty sad.

What does that even mean? Was Moyes lobotomised before he took over which has rendered him to making weird remarks and odd team selections.

I've said it already in the matchday thread

Moyes should be sacked just for this decision!!!!!!!!
He really isn't making things easy for us that still support him (to an extent). I want him to succeed at United because he's a decent bloke, but statements like that just make me :wenger:

From what I understood of what Moyes said, he was making two seperate points. Firstly that he decided last week that he wanted to give Cleverley a game and secondly that it was time to rest Adnan. I don't think that he meant that he was replacing Adnan with Cleverley - although you never know with Moyes and that would be utterly bizarre.
My problem with what he said is how the hell was it the right time to 'bring him out' of the team when the lad has hardly played at all recently. He's only started one game in about a month!

He looked like he needed a rest, and it's not like there's an international break coming up anytime soon.

Can people stop using that stupidly out of context quote? Moyes was responding to a question on Fellaini and Januzaj.

Anyone else think we need to start playing him on the right more? His ability to come inside on his left would give us a bit more unpredictability and he always seems to look more threatening from there.
