I know its not really relevant but on FIFA ultimate team they have upgraded Januzaj by 12 points and i want to spend alot of money on him....

Januzaj Januzaj Januuuuzaj!

I really hope we have him starting again for the rest of the season. In my opinion, he's been up there with Rooney and De Gea as our best player. I can see no reason for starting either Young or Valencia over him.

Wouldn't be surprised if the reason he's not been playing is so he can focus on the gym work.

Do what's best for his development, and if that's rest, so be it. There's nothing to gain from burning him out.
Edit: Michael Owen made an interesting blogpost last season about playing so many games early in his career and compared it to Giggs, Scholes, Neville Beckham et al. Who all played fewer games earlier in their career and benefitted from the rest Fergie gave them compared to Owen who was overplayed early on. He reckons it's part of why they had long careers whilst he was injury prone later in his career. I think Januzaj's games are being managed fine. He played a lot over November-January. It's best to err on the side of caution.

He should be starting every other game hopefully from now on. He need not play full 90 minutes as we don't want him to become another Wilshere plagued with injuries.

Himself and Welbeck carried us while Rooney and Van Persie were out. Now that we have those two back plus Mata they are getting a well deserved break before we go back into the final stage of the league and the Champions League where both could play important roles. I think its good management

Yup.

I can easily see Januzaj not playing against CP so we can use him against Olympiacos because Mata can't play in CL.

Much better than the usual tosh of "WHY IS MOYES THE PLEB STARTING VALENCIA OVER JANUZAJ?! OMGOGM"

Good post.

Understandable reaction from fans who've seen their team go from Champions to mid table cannon fodder and are disappointed at the fact one of the better players of the season is on the bench whilst one of the players largely responsible for the decline runs out in the first 11, week in week out.
The reasoning for Januzaj being benched makes sense but to expect everyone to see it that way is completely stupid.

People do need to be realistic though and realise he's 18 though. If anyone actually expected him to play every single game, then they need their heads check.

This is good management from Moyes - straight from Fergie's "Keep their heads on the shoulders/down to earth: Avoid Fatigue and injuries" book.

Yeah I agree, but with the current crisis, there's bound to be emotional rather than logical reactions to decisions such as that. I'm not disagreeing at all with the reasoning but again, there's no way the universal reaction will be one of understanding and acceptance. People are bound to be mad.

That's fair enough.

Pretty quiet game from him today aside from the disallowed goal (class finish). His talent is there for all to see though. He has that swagger and ability to sneak out the tightest spaces that only the top players seem to have. Really excited to see how he's going to progress in the next few years alongside Rooney and Mata.

He was great in the first half for the most part, quiet in the second but still had some good passes. Set up RVP for the chance that hit the bar. He just suits the side so much better when Mata, Rooney and RVP are there then Valencia/Young do. Probably because he's just a better player really.

He should've played on the right side today.......we had nobody there (Smalling = nobody)

Evra was our left-winger

He was okay/quiet today......but we can't expect a special game from him in every game

Any chance Owen is just built that way? Anyway didn't Giggs have lots of ham strings in his day and what about Ronaldo and Rooney at 18. We signed both at that age for big money, huge money in Rooneys case and they played loads.

Don't like him playing so rigidly in the "Valencia role". He's too good for it IMO.

He popped up on the right and in the middle a bit. Certainly wasn't a Valencia type role. When we have both Mata and him starting it is better that he be the wide player but with the freedom he still had.

He's succumbed to the stupid haircut brigade but once him, Mata, Rooney and RvP start clicking we should have our most exciting attack in 5 years.

The handling of Januzaj is one of the few positives from the Moyes era thus far. I think the fact that he had experience handling Rooney and Barkley at Everton would've helped.

He should start every few games for us until the end of the season.

with januzaj and mata on the wings we need top class marauding fullbacks to overlap because both of them loves to cut inside and rightly so given the talent and the way they play their football.

rafael is one for sure but when he is out injured which is 40% time of each season we'll left with a giant natural CB in smalling there. evra on the left handside had one of his best performance of the season yesterday which makes the adnan-paddy combo looks good.

i think moyes realizes it is time to say goodbye to the rigid 4-4-2 system at united. he did try to keep the system sir alex used all these years but it is not going to be successful under him now. he used to play 4-2-3-1 at everton with baines and coleman supplying the width going forward and allows guys like pienaar and mirallas (2 easy and latest example during moyes 11 years tenure there) to cut inside.

which makes sense why he did try to get baines and coentrao last summer to rival evra (due to age of course, evra at his peak was the best LB in europe) for the LB spot. we are going to need another RB to cover for rafael as well. i hope the idea of smalling deputizing rafael at RB is just short term. we need a natural fullback there.

i know this is a januzaj thread but with a couple of top CM additions in the summer, we could and should be back challenging for the tittle again. and januzaj is going to be very much part of this.

Regarding the marauding full back bit I still, for some reason, see Valencia as a great back up in that position especially in games we are expected to dominate. I know he has made several defensive howlers in the past and this season but I think it's his best position for us.

As you say Mata and Januazj would benefit so much from this kind of fullback playing with them.

Had a really good first half and a quite second (still set up the RvP chance though). We looked much better yesterday, Adnan and Mata weren't stuck out on the wings, they were coming inside and dropping deep (along with Rooney), it actually looked like a 4-2-3-1 rather than the 4-4-2 we have been playing. It suits all our attacking players, the next step is to sell Young and Valencia and completely abolish that 1992 style of play.

valencia is not a bad option actually, especially in home matches against the lower table sides. defensively he is always going to be a suspect because he is not a defender, but in terms of overlapping mata or januzaj then he would be fantastic.

just need to get back to the basics of crossing the ball and of course we need top midfielders to dominate the opponents again.

i get your point though, better concentrate on signing midfielders and another LB rather than splashing out 15-20 million on another RB, we have the players who can deputize rafael there and while they are not going to be perfect, at least they can do a job, such as smalling defensively and valencia offensively.

Well, judging by all the players we're quoted as being "linked with" and Moyes and his team have watched, none appear to be wingers so that bodes well for the type of formation we want to see United playing.

As I've always said, the time to judge Moyes will be around this coming December, by which time he should have brought in the players he wants and got them playing in the style he wants.

What a shit haircut! I hope he's not going the T23 way!

A good manager will get the best from any set of players. If he has to assemble his dream team before his capabilities can be judged, he's not a good manager.

Maybe he is actually getting the best out of them as things stand. Maybe the older players have given everything they had to give and have too little left. Let's not go back to the "they won the league last season so it's all Moyes' fault they're not performing the same this season" argument.

As I've said before, Fergie should have been gradually bringing in the new players everyone knew we needed for at least a couple of seasons. He didn't though, leaving Moyes needing to make wholesale changes.

Looking very good at the moment.

I'd generally be in favour of him sticking with United for a couple of years to continue his development before joining a top four club.

He seemed to be under instruction in the second half to keep the width on the left IMO, which I think limited him a little bit, but in general it helped the team overall.

No suprise that Evra got the space twice after some clever link up play with Januzaj and Mata.

The great thing is being his age, he stood out no less than any of the experienced guys he was playing with.
