Manchester City midfielder Adam Johnson has conceded that he may be willing to consider a move away from Eastlands in search of regular football.

The 23-year-old arrived at the club from Middlesbrough in January and made a smooth transition to playing in the top-flight, earning plaudits all over for his strong performances.

The winger also earned a place in the preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup, but was dropped from the final 23 that travelled to South Africa during the summer.

This season, however, Johnson has only made five starts for his club, and is unhappy with having to play a fringe role under Roberto Mancini.

"Every footballer has to think about it when the time comes," Johnson told The Sun.

"It is still early but I definitely would consider it."

seems pre mature to think about him leaving so soon after signing but id want him in our side if he were available.

Very good player - its a mystery why he's not playing regularly for City.

United should be in for him if he is available. Ideal player for any top club and Fergie must be kicking himself that they didn't get him in the first place.

Is he any good on the left? Looked pretty subdued when he was stuck there for England and there's not a chance we're buying another right winger.

best young winger in the league

He's the ultimate match of the day player imo. Top class at times, a real throw back. His all round game needs alot of work, tends to go missing alot. He's hardly the best young winger in the league either...hint Nani

Suppose it all boils down to what your preference in a winger is.

As for the Johnson story, if the quotes are true, he obviously just said what he said because he wants to play more games at City.

Why would they play him when they have Milner ... right ... RIGHT? :nervous:

Seriously though, I'd happily take him at Utd.

Baffles me why he isn't being played more. But then again, they have brought in Milner, Silva and Johnson in the space of 6 months. I'd be wary of that attitude though, doesn't seem like he's up for the fight?

Thinking the exact same.

The kid is a freaking idiot if he thought he would sign for City and players like Milner, Silva and Baloteli would not be signed to play in a position similar to his.

I have no sympathy for players like him, or RSC, or Bellamy etc, who signed thinking they were the bee's knees and completely ignored the fact there was a good chance of them being stepping stone signings.

The fact Johnson seems to be pissed that there is top quality competition for him place at a club that is supposed to be pushing for the title and onwards from there doesn't bode well for him making it at any other top club.

Maybe this is why United did not follow up their interest in him last season.

I don't think it's a fight - it's a system. Mancini is playing a system that has no place for a player like Johnson.

To be fair to him, it's one thing having competition for a spot, quite another to be outperforming your competitors and still not being picked (which is supposedly what is happening, I haven't watched them enough to know for myself).

Imo he s a bit over-rated and one-dimensional. Don t get me wrong he s not a bad player but he stands out from the rest because of the lack of young english talent.

He has potential. When he is on song, his dribble can be as good as Giggsy's. Inconsistence is his problem, like most young players. But he is indeed young and most managers tend to protect the younger players by picking games for them. He needs to realize that he has a much longer career in front of him. He needs an experienced manager to guide him. Managers who know what to say to him at the right times. Managers who know how to develop good potential. Mancini? What's his record with young players anyway?

Hes at his best on the right wing and we already have 2 better right wingers at the club than him, he's no better than Lennon for me, fancy dribbling and pace but more often than not fecks up his final ball, crossing is horrendous at times, if he could play on the left wing which youd think being naturally left footed he could then id consider him, but whenever ive seen him on the left although granted not often hes not looked up to much.

No thanks.

I'm sure he could learn to play left wing. It's easier making someone play on their preferred side than the other way round imo e.g. teaching a Bale to play on the right.

I'd take him at United in a heartbeat, but it'll never happen. City don't need to sell and certainly don't and won't sell to us.

ditto.
he is good and can be a threat. can also be a good impact player on that(right) side. but i don't think we will go for a player(especially a forward/winger) who can only function in one position.

pretty sure he has said he prefers left wing but mancini wants him to play on the right so hes had to adapt.

What do you mean premature? He has been brilliant for them in the last six months and he a regular for England nowadays. He can't even get into the starting eleven because of stupid Mancini. He starts Milner ahead of Johnson for feck sake. He would be a starter in almost every team in the Premier League.

What a load of toss.

The lad signed for City from Middlesborough and may not have had any other offers. Besides that he's arguably been one of citys better players this year - consistently come on in games and changed them when the likes of Milner and Silva couldn't. Fact is he should be getting a game on form.

He got his move to the PL and has proven himself. I know a few City fans and they're going mad that he's not getting picked, moaning that its another sig Mancini hasn't got a clue.

If he says he wants to move, then he'll have say where he goes. Simple as that. Don't think that United wouldn't have sold Rooney to City of he'd stalled on the contract. Business is business.

If he's available you'd like to think United would be interested.

Played left wing all the time at middlesborough and when he first went to City. Was quality out there last season when they played Villa.

Unless you play defensive mid, nobody has a chance of getting in that side. Plus, when they need a goal, they can always throw on another defensive mid.

He always play defensive. He plays Barry, Toure and De Jong in central midfield and he expects Toure to handle the attacking responsibility. If he plays Silva in midfield along with Barry and Toure with Johnson and Balotelli on the wings, they would look far more formidable.

Tevez

Balotelli/Milner-------Johnson

Silva

Barry-------Toure

He's massively overrated on here because we haven't been splashing the cash as muppets would like and he is used as an example of the kind of player Fergie "should" have bought. Cows, fields, etc.

If first team football is want he wants then he wouldn't be guaranteed that here with Nani and Valencia in front of him and a few youth prospects pushing through too (Cleverly, Obertan and Welbeck could all be in contention for spaces on the wing).

I'd love a player like him at our club, but the bottom line is we are fully stacked in the right wing position and this lad is a better player on that flank... if only he was Bale-esque on the left :(

He is not overrated. He is a genuinely good player. He has saved City a few times so far by scoring important goals for them and some of them were brilliant curlers.

He is a genuinely good player.

He's not a player who deserves posts like

"SAF seriously fecked up not getting this kid he's the dog's bollocks".

He isn't the dogs bollocks.

He wouldn't necessarily have a huge impact here.

We have better.

Well I agree he is not the best. But he is amongst the best wingers in the league. He is quick and can change direction at will. He can cross the ball well and can shoot - has a deadly left foot.

A year ago, he was playing the Championship for Boro but now he is playing in the PL and is a regular for England. He has made massive improvements to his game. Mancini is so dumb to not use him in more games. They look more dangerous of making something happen with him in the lineup.
