This is pissing me off. Pay the money and stop pussyfooting around.
This guy will be worth over 100 million in a couple of years..
The way football is going now.we are doing the right thing in bringing in younger players with a sell on value. We need someone to get these deals over the line.

How on earth do you think AWB is going to be worth 100 million pounds in a few years? As someone's already said, Shaw wouldn't fetch the price United paid for him now. I don't see any sell-on profit potential from this deal at all.

Can't believe we're still messing with this. Just move on if you don't think he's worth the reported fee that Palace want. I'm sure there are other players out there. We are so slow!

Any player who is a success multiplies his value in 5-6-7 years. Simply because of the increasing money involved in football.

How can negotiations take this long? Surely it shouldn't take long to either agree a price or decide the price is too high and move on? Where's the sense of urgency?

Spent the afternoon watching this lad on YouTube and he takes some risks in the way he goes to ground and tackles. With the profile of playing here with many games televised plus VAR, I'm worried. I am also worried about the potential injuries in may get because of his tackling style. I like the lad a lot and I'm going to contradict myself, not sure he's the right signing for us now. I think I'd feel different if we had quality CB's next to him to bring him on.

Another issue is there are uncanny parallels with Zaha. He's a London lad and I wonder how well he'll settle away from the capital. He's a shy guy too and he'll need alots of support to settle.

Some very similar traits to Eric Bailly.

You would only consider him a success because the bar was set so low. One of better ones from a bad lot. He became a spoiler for us when he was a playmaker at Bilbao.

He really wasnt. He was more what Mourinho lauded Oscar for being, a player in the hole who would be the first person to close people down. 1.6 key passes was his highest ever average in a league season.

Sanchez, Mata and Martial were all 2 key passes+ per 90 mins last season and thats in a team that didnt create a lot. Ander made more passes and with more accuracy at United

Very similar and always seems to be over-reaching or last ditch. I think at CP, there's nothing like the forensic view of your game like being here and a few yellow cards or penalties could put a lot of pressure on his game. I like Eric but his style of play here has exposed his frailties.Time will tell.

No I disagree, there are other factors such as quality of other players available, and I don't see this player becoming someone worth £100m. For all the talk of players now going for £100m, very, VERY few have. It's not going to become the norm. These prices being quoted for players are insane, but virtually no-one is actually paying them.

Aaron wan bissaka isn't cafu. He'll never be worth 100m. That's just not realistic.

Of course its realistic - with the way the football markets works, a player who is valued at £30 million today, could easily be worth £60-70 million 5 years later.

Or you could look at this history:

In 1993 we paid £3.75 for Keane
18 months later we paid £7 mil for Cole
3 years later we paid £12.6 mil for Yorke
3 years after that we paid £28 mil for Veron

So in the space of less than 10 years, our transfer record had been multiplied by almost 8 times. So of course it's not unrealistic that AWB (or anyone elses) value could double in the space of 5 years.

Here’s another eye opener for the younger ones on here, which is most I suspect.

In 1961 Jimmy Hill (look him up) lead a players union revolution to break the FA rule of a maximum wage cap of £20 per week on players. Yes, £20 maximum wage, equivalent to about £442 per week now, according to the CPI. You’ll be hard pressed to find a first team player in the PL on less than £44,200 per week now (do the maths).

Sports in general. For decades, owners were making profits hand over fist as players were receiving little share in regards to revenue. At least in American sports I know this was the case so I'd figure the same applied in Europe.

We're going to have to disagree on this one I'm afraid. The fees for the top players are always exorbitant. Wan Bissaka doesn't have that level of quality though.

Except for ronaldo which player have we sold for a good profit?

We're going to have to disagree on this one I'm afraid. The fees for the top players are always exorbitant. Wan Bissaka doesn't have that level of quality though.

2013 - Liverpool signed Sakho for £12m, Chelsea signed Willian for £30m, City signed Navas for £17m and Fernandinho for £30m, Southampton signed Lovren for £8.5m, Stoke signed Arnautovic for £2m, Swansea signed Shelvey for £6m, Tottenham signed Eriksen for £11m, Chadli for £7m, and Capoue for £9m, West Ham signed Downing for £6m

It has nothing to do with quality - it has to do with an ever increasing amount spent on transfers. In 2013 - £30m got you some of the best players, and £10 million got you some of the biggest talents. Today £10 million gets you nothing. So if you look at transfer fees historically - the price will increase dramatically in 5 years. Why would it be any different in 2024 ? If AWB is a success (and that is a requirement) - he will probably be Worth £100 million in 2024...simply because of this.

And as for the person using Shaw as an example - that is simply because there is no demand for Shaw, but if anyone wanted to have signed him, United would never have sold him for £30 million.

And this is why squad investment has to be a continual process...Everyone knows we need a player in that position...so we pay through the nose. You only get a bargain when you maintain from a position of strength, eg buying Evra when we had Heinze for example.

This is why our "Value in the Market" strategy is so deeply flawed. The time to pay for a new roof is not when yours has become derelict and a thunderstorm is on the way.

I've never thought about it like that before, but that sounds about right.

Which makes me wonder if bolstering our attacking options would actually be a smarter investment this season, as we're less likely to get fleeced due to desperation. Then with the improved performance due to our attack, we can attract better options for other positions, as well as negotiate from a place of relative strength (as opposed to the desperation with which we currently do). Basically the Liverpool route.

Obviously wishful thinking, but still...

The Dalot transfer thread had 38 pages, and was wrapped up in less than 10 days.

AWB is English, has to be purchased from a PL club and has no CL to speed things up. Plus this is a window where we're more desperate than ever, with an inferior manager in charge. Guess that partly explains why this thread is almost thrice as long, over thrice as many days.

Despite all that, you can't help but wonder where this club's going if the best we can do a week before pre season in our most important transfer window in ages is 1 kid from the Championship.

We've lost a top player In Herrera while DDG and Rashford are running out their contracts. Pogba and Lukaku want to leave and fecking Jones has a new contract. Meanwhile, JLingz and Sanchez are promoting their brands and movies with non-chalance, and our centre back pairing will still depend on one of the Chuckle brothers. And most importantly, we've somehow chucked the idea of a DoF, again. Quelle surprise.

Yeah, poor Ole had no idea what he signed up for. Woodward's incompetence will keep sinking us even deeper.

I don’t understand this club, if AWB is the fullback they wanted, get serious and get it done, if not move to plan B. The lollygagging is pointless and waste of time for everyone.

So Crystal Palace want 50 million cash for a player thats had one good season, football has gone mad. City paid less for Kyle Walker. I hope Woodward has other options has I think its time that clubs stopped paying crazy money for players. Has soon has the buying clubs stopped transferring crazy money prices will drop.

You forgot to add that they also want the sell on clause in Zaha terms dropped. Literally taking us to the cleaners.
