Have AWB at fullback and then have Dalot play higher up to deliver lethal crosses into the box. Dalot can't do any worse than Valencia did on the right side for so many years before being pushed down to fullback.

Are people actually trying to put across that Denis Irwin was not a good fullback, what have I walked onto here!

Evra was immense but Denis Irwin was absolutely sensational! I'm sure these will be the same fans who wouldn't put Bruce or Pallister in the same breath as Stam/Vidic/Rio simply due to playing in a different era.

A forum where fans are having a pop at Denis Irwin, christ almighty.
Has anyone actually said that or is this just the usual hyperbole?

I know this is off topic, but I have to ask this, guys everyone on here, just a quick yes or no:

Steve Bruce, would you say he is in the same league as our other great CBs (I would go further into the past but Adnan's head might blow up if I start mentioning names he's never heard off).

So quick Yes or No, Steve Bruce up there with the Stams/Vidas/Rios of this world?

Yes for me, very underrated and a fantastic captain

As opposed to Chelsea being the only challengers in the 00s
The difference was that Chelsea could beat us financially in the transfer market and Arsenal were still strong coming off a champions league final loss to Barca.

But on the pitch where it counts. Arsenal and Blackburn beat us to the title. I believe thats the same about of clubs as the 00s

Not to also mention that Irwin played against some serious quality in Europe they both did

I dont see how the era makes Evra any more accomplished myself

When Blackburn beat us under Walkers millions they were the only challengers. Arsenal started challenging us under Wenger and by then Blackburn were long gone. Chelsea becoming a force added to the existing rivalry with Arsenal. Chelsea also beat us to many transfer targets which made it very difficult for us since we won the title in 1993. We went without the title for 4 years.

Anyone else worried that all of his tackles seem to be sliding recovery tackles?

Watching his videos it seems he spends a lot of time on the ground.

Regualr tackles won't make the videos isn't it. Always sliding tackles and exciting stuff that makes the video.

What has that got to do with Evra and Irwin going up against quality fullbacks and wingers?

They both played against top quality. You could even argue there were better wingers around in the 90s

Vidic used to spend his time in the similar situation. If we'll invite too much pressure like we did last season then of course he'll have a massive defensive job to do, but if Ole will set his team to attack, pressure and dictate the game more then perhaps he'll have time to dribble more and make vital crosses.

That's what I was thinking in fairness - which is why YouTube videos aren't the be all end all.

If he's capable of making them without giving away a lot of fouls then great too.

This is exactly the sort of player we should be targeting for this rebuild. I have no doubt it's the sort of player we would have tried to sign under Fergie

The fact some are still moaning says a lot

The quality was higher when Evra played. Just compare the players Arsenal and Chelsea had in that period and the financial power of Abramovich over United. United didn't win the title for 4 years due to Romans millions.

Especially for a fecking fullback. Highlight clips of Ronaldo scoring goals is one thing, but a right back?

I was talking about sliding tackles. I'm not concerned that he isn't scoring goals.

Make a thread in the Man Utd forum pal, this shite is derailing the transfer thread. Evra Vs Irwin, go knock yourself out. ;)

I don't rate him as high as some seem to on the caf, like I didn't rate Aurier as highly too but the reason PSG don't really care about Meunier is because he doesn't fit tactically. Tuchel uses flexible lineups, where for example the 433 can turn into a 343, that's why Kehrer or Marquinhos will almost always be preferred while Bernat/Kurzawa are better than Meunier.

I see. That makes sense. Arsenal or Everton can have him

liked a post on instagram about transfer news to united.

Reckon this will be done shortly. Not sure how I feel about it due to the fee. Hope I'm wrong though.

It wasn't higher we didn't only play in England either. The fullbacks and wingers around when Irwin was playing cannot be said to be weaker than when Evra was playing. Thats a complete myth

Lad's a defensive monster with the mentality of a robot. Doesn't ever seem fazed. Can't wait

I’m a bit surprised that people use his «drible stat» as evidence for his on the ball ability.

Look at Robertson and Trent-Arnold, they tarely ever take-on player. Considering the risk/reward that is probably wise as stealing the ball from a fullback could give a great chance for the other team to counter attack.

It is their passing game that sets these two apart; their crossing, link-up play and vision. Furthermore, their off the ball movement is great. In short, attacking at the highest level is a brain game more than anything.

Big money move but that's the going rate for a top quality right back.

It will be such a relief seeing our right side next season knowing we'll be defensively sound on that side. Hopefully him and Dalot can have healthy competition for that place to keep them on their toes.

Best signing since Pogba once / if he's announced. Now we need serious midfield reinforcement.

Didn't Pogba do something similar too? Interesting timing and I doubt coincidental.
