If our first offer was £45m plus £5m add ons I'm sure they would have requested £60-65m! Standard negotiating tactics, first bid lowers expectations, second bid semi realistic, 3rd bid more or less what you want to pay. After that it should be tweaks
Fair point but palace had asked for 50m 3 weeks ago and were ready to settle (apparently). I dont no the ins and outs but we need players fast, need a settled squad so we should expect to pay slightly over the odds to get our business done quickly

So you will believe stories that support your argument, but ignore stories where Palace were asking for £60m and the removal of Zaha’s sell on clause of 25% which could be worth £20m in itself.

That’s called confirmation bias. The reality is no one hear knows what Utd’s first offer was, or what Palace were asking for.

The lad was at the U21s, signing him 2 weeks ago, or a month ago, or even in 2 weeks time makes no difference. There’s no need to bash the club unnecessarily. We have a good player, in a position we desperately needed at a reasonable cost given the current market, his nationality and potential.

There aren’t any negatives here.
Considering that Woodward can only work on one deal at a time, that's bull. Glazers are purposely delaying transfers, which is why I sincerely doubt we'll get 2-3 signings more.

Wan-Bissaka was a winger in youth football until he was brought into a first team training session at full back to make up the numbers. It really annoys me when folk talk about Valencia at right back as if he was a poor stand-in. The man absolutely made the position his own. We have went a total of one season without having a proper right back.

He was a poor stand in. When you compare him over the past few years at RB to actual attacking wingbacks who get forward and defend.

Valencia and his notorious dribble-forward to the half way line, before turning backwards and passing to Smalling. It's incredibly average. That's not making it his own, that's doing the absolute minimum required.

And he was followed by Young, who would run himself into trouble, and be forced into clipping the ball 30 yards forward, to nobody, and the ball trickling out for a goal kick.

Hopefully, this will shut the moaners & whingers up for the summer. Negotiation requires patience if one is to ensure that we have a reasonably fair deal.
Yep, I doubt the up front fee was as much of an issue as the sell on clause which is potentially worth a lot more to Crystal Palace than the £5 mil up front we were allegedly haggling about if the media are to be believed.

Obviously i do not know the ins and outs but i also read palace from the start asked for 50m. Surely you start your negotiations much higher than 25m and get it done quick. United are in a desperate state, we need players and fast. The more new faces we have on tour, the better prepared we will be. Hopefully we started bruno Fernandes negotiations 3 weeks ago and will land at the 65m thats been quotted for months!
Ins and outs with negotiating is you try to lower the price if you can. If it goes great if not you meet somewhere in the middle. Maybe if we started with a higher offer they would demand more than 50 million.

how many player does he want, be modest Ole

My guess would be Longstaff, Maguire, Ben Yedder (the ones mentioned often in the media). Not sure about a fullback (maybe it was with Wan Bissaka)?

I would like to see another midfielder, Bruno or Tielemans for example. But not sure we want Tielemans and Bruno is just Sporting using us, i dont think we are desperate for now, unless Pogba leaves.

Also, this kid would definitely have been a Sir Alex signing. 100%. Would have been on the cards minutes after his debut against us, what was it, 1-2 years ago? He was a beast. Completely muzzled us on our left.

What difference would signing him 3 weeks ago have made to anything?

I think you are getting emotionally excited here. Who said i believed it? All i said was i read it. Either way, United is a sh&t show, we need our business to be done quick and we really do not have time to waste on slow unrealistic offers ( if true). Fair point on the 25% fee, i didnt dismiss this, this may have been the deciding factor and if thats what we were fighting over then fair play. As you say, who knows so i can discuss other outcomes without you piping hot air and claiming confirmation bias.

My bottom line fact is, we need to do business faster. We have the same squad that finished 6th, pogba wants to go, lukaku wants to go, we need a CB desperately, replace Ander, possibly a new right winger. We do not have 3 weeks per deal to get things done. I am also assuming we work on one deal at a time based on the last few years. The season starts in 6 weeks and we go on tour next week ( to Australia which is not around the corner)

Do you actually believe that Utd can only work on one deal at a time? Do you really!! Just look back over the past 4 years and there are a number of transfers that were announced within days of each other.
Look at my edited post. :P They don't want to spend much, hence them delaying and haggling deals until it's too late to sign enough players. If we did negotiate on several fronts simultaneously we'd have signed all players Ole wanted signed before July 1st. And we'd also have gotten rid of the dross like Rojones, Darmian and Sanchez/Lukaku/Lingard.

Here's hoping we get rid of Lukaku for big money at least, and replace Sanchez with Sancho next summer.

Decent signing, I don't think he is a massive upgrade on Dalot, so personally, I wouldn't have spent so much of our budget on him.

But its always good to have another talented young player in the squad.

Big difference actually. I am assuming we do one deal at a time, so time is looming. We need a settled squad and the season starts in 6 weeks. Yes he will miss 2 weeks of pre season but i would much rather plan in advance than let it linger into the summer. Ole focus should be on how we are to play rather than if we will get that person hence it is always good to have most your signings done before pre season begins.

I like this kind of transfers, but the chunk of the budget this transfer is getting is concerning. I guess if we manage to sell some deadwood we can increase our transfer budget.

We lost 2 internationals in midfield and we can't replace them with some kid whose got a handful of games under their belt. I'm hoping that we'll get at least a top CB, Fernandes and top box to box midfielder. If Lukaku leave then we should spend the money on Haller and Pepe.

If Woodward really could only work on one deal at a time then we wouldn't have signed Schweinsteger, Schneiderlin and Darmian over the course of a few days. We also did the same with Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan. Lukaku and Lindelof were done in the space of about a week too if my memory serves me correctly. There's lots of evidence to suggest we're more than capable of working on multiple deals at once.

Never actually watched him play live (missed the games against palace this season), really hoping he's good. I've seen some clips of his defending, but hopefully he can attack to as all modern top teams need fullbacks that can contribute to the atrack. Qualities similar to Kyle walker, TAA or Carvajal would be very useful.

He completed most take-ons in the entire PL last season. Even if his crossing isn't much better than Young and Valencia, at least he can get passed his man for better angles.

In attack or defence?

Attack I can agree but defensively, Dalot is nowhere near.

Jesus, people actually believe or think United does one deal at a time...
As we've said that's how they operate for face-saving purposes. They know they don't want to spend lots of our revenue, and taking months to seal a deal at a time is a good way to ensure they don't. If we were truly serious we'd have lined up all signings already(six weeks since window opened) for pre-season.

am I the only one who thinks Wan-Bissaka as RB and Dalot as RW could work really well together? AWBs defense makes up for Dalots deficiencies and vice-versa.

Yeah I think it might be an interesting combination, I'd like to see us try it out during pre-season. A big issue is that it's a very inexperienced right hand side, don't think they've even got 80 senior appearances between them.

Can't fault the signing to be honest, it's an area we desperately needed an upgrade in and every time I've seen the lad play he's been immense.

A slightly surprised United supporting family:

His brother is a United fan, posts a fair bit about us on twitter

Nice. Was thinking the same thing.

Mostly because we're shambles in the transfer market, and I don't see us getting a proper RW. But also because Dalot going forward is pretty good for a young kid

Until this ridiculous assumption is corrected, there is no point in giving any further of your opinions, with respect. To think we work on a single deal at a time is just ridiculous.

If Dalot had it in him to be a Manchester United quality RW he would currently be a RW and not a RB.

I'm very sure that if he was played there for an extended run you'd quickly see his limitations. He's a RB, just a young attacking one who needs to work on the defensive side of his game.

If we're playing Dalot at RW we have serious problems.
