To be honest, I would like us to see how the likes of O'Connor, Laird, even Fosu Mensah in a tough preseason friendly match before making move for any defender in the market. One of them could be as good or even better than the ones we're looking to sign.

Excuse me, but are you joking? If so, bravo! That had me doubled over laughing.

"What kind of captain would let this happen to his team? Ashley Young at right back..."

Honestly, 50m and throw in Ashley Young for free. Get it done Ed.

In a world where Kyle Walker (who isn't exactly Mr. Outstanding) cost £50m two years ago, it isn't exactly surprising that AWB would cost at least the same.

I would pay that for young talents like Wan Bissaka. I hope this happens.

£50m is the max I'd like to see us play.

The same player can be worth different amounts (even if we kept his age and performances as a constant) in different windows because it's also down to the alternatives available in the market. In our case Munier is ready to go from PSG and as a very good plan B to turn to I don't think we should be held ransom for AWB.

He's also not as proven as Walker was in the premier League at the time of purchase, so the comparison not really relevant.

AWB base fee £25m
Manchester United tax £10m
English tax £10m
Ashley Young current RB tax £10
United desperation tax £5
Ed Woodward tax £10m

Honestly, I'd say Crystal Palace is pretty fair to ask for £70million.

My gut says he will be our first official signing, this is the one we really have to get over the line.

Nah. By your own silly calculations they shouldn't ask for more than 55 000 015 pounds.

:lol: hope Palace staff has the same calculator.

Would like this guy but for crazy money I’d sooner go meunier. As I trust dalot can still develop to be our rb.

Muenier wouldn't be a bad idea actually. I have high hopes for Ethan Laird.

Yeah heard good things about him, realistically if we were linked with this hot prospect Portuguese rb this season we would all want him. Dalot and laird sound like they could battle it out in the future and meunier seems a sensible option.

I'd pay it

Right back is a big issue for us and we need to stop dicking about with half measures

Half measures and cut price, discounted deals is what we specialise in.
I don't see us buying a RB this Summer. A.Young has a long season ahead of him.

He [Dalot] is ready, just needs game. We have one of the brightest full backs around in Dalot, and yet we are going to sign another one in his position. The way this club is run is a joke, invest the money in a right winger, centre back etc.

I don't think we will sign a RB. Like you said, we already have Young and Dalot.

Didn’t he already say he would be at Palace next season?

Players always come out and talk shite, he wouldn’t be the first one to talk rubbish. We won’t know until mid August what the story is.

Bit late then, the window will be closed on the Thursday before the first round of games, probabaly the 8th.

Would prefer a more attacking RB especially as we have Shaw who is not good going forward. Paying more than £30m for AWB would be terrible business.

Rumours are that's the case. Problem is if you're paying that for someone, you don't want a gamble and at the moment he's had one good season.
Agreed. I'm still not fully sold on this kid, and I'd rather try get Cancelo if the rumours about him wanting out of Juve are true.

Are we not a bit sick of players who are shit on the ball?

Who do you bring in if Dalot gets injured then?

To me, Dalot next season should play the role Danilo plays at City. Being used at both right and left back when needed.

We need two starting full backs.

Shaw needs to work on his attacking game, but he'll be our starting left back next season.

In my opinion, we should be purchasing a starting right back, otherwise we'll have to rely on Young if/when Shaw/Dalot pick up an injury.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Wan-Bissaka, but i'm not sure I want to be seeing Young starting on a regular basis next season.

Actually, for the sake of Dalot's progression, someone like Meunier would be a more sensible buy, as Dalot could step into the right back role in 2-3 years time.

The only thing that worries me is:

3 assists in 35 matches this season.

EDIT:

For comparison,

Ashley Young got 2 assists in 30 matches
Diogo Dalot got 2 assists in 16 matches

Trent Alexander-Arnold got 12 assists in 29 matches

Do you think TAA would be getting similar numbers for Palace? I'm inclined to say no.

For Hull, Andrew Robertson made:

16/17 - 2 assists in 31 matches (Premier League)
15/16 - 4 assists in 44 matches (Championship)
14/15 - 2 assists in 17 matches (Premier League)

This season, he has made 11 assists in 35 matches

This is not to say we could purchase Wan-Bissaka and he'd be racking up 11/12 assists for us because I personally don't think we use our full backs effectively enough, but as you can see, you'd expect that numbers would possibly change with a more attacking team.

Yeah exactly, I've come around now - in a better team, and as he gets older, he'll rack up more assists for sure.

I am fully onboard with signing the lad.

I would like to see Dalot and a new LB as first choice, sell Shaw.

Then we would have 3 full backs for 2 positions, Dalot, Meunier and new LB. And if there were injuries, I think Matic could play at LB, Lindelof at RB etc.
