That block was amazing. The header in the second half, which he normally gets caught out on, was brilliant too. Hoping he keeps that up.

One thing I absolutely hated was around the 61st minute when Wolves had a chance. He fecking jogged back. WTF? I hate when he does that, no excuses. The wolves player basically did a one-two around him and hes still jogging back. Theres no urgency to sprint back to get back, or to even see the other man (think it was trincao who ended up putting it wide).

Contact seems outside the box to me. Trincao is already over the a line from what I can tell but would need the camera angle from the sidelines to be sure.

It's still a penalty if you foul a player in that situation. Any foul made outside of the pitch is considered as a foul made on the closest spot of the pitch to where the foul was made.

Playing next to Varane will undoubtedly help his game too. The block on the line was as good as De Gea's save and just as important.
Yeah that’s true. Both equally vital

Ah shit, I didn’t know that. Thanks!

Defensively he is such an asset to have. Just wish he could pass the damn ball

Hugely underrated player on the Caf. One of the best defenders in the league. He isn't particularly effective going forwards, but I'm one of those that likes defenders who can actually defend, and take forward play as a bonus. Given how good on the ball our other three defenders are, I'm not too worried about it. His positioning today was superb. He was sloppy with his passing on a couple of occasions, but even that is overplayed. He made so many unheralded interceptions, and his goal line block was a match winning intervention. Top, top defender.

New rule states that Penalty won't be given if it wasn't affecting the goal chance.

Trincao or whoever did release the ball before the tackle and after that the chance is gone.

VAR was right not to give the penalty.

Interesting. When did this rule come? It does make sense given the penalty against James would have been quite fortuitous to Wolves.

Funnily enough Bruno got a penalty against Leeds in a similar situation which may cover what you are saying but if my memory is right, the tackle started a bit before the ball was released although the contact was made after. So probably the Ref determined that the tackle did affect the play.

New approach to penalties
There will also be a tweak in the approach toward penalties after a record high of 125 were awarded last season.

This season, referees should not only establish whether there is clear contact but whether it had enough of a consequence in order to award a penalty and whether the player used the contact to try to win a foul or a penalty.

"It's not sufficient to just say there was contact," Riley added. "Contact on its own is only one element the referee should look for.

"If you have clear contact that has a consequence, it's a foul - but if you have any doubts in these elements, they are unlikely to be penalised.

"You also want it to be a proper foul and not the slightest contact that someone has used to go over to get a penalty."

This rule unveiled just before the start of the season.

That Dan James tackle     . How did no one see that?

Aaaaaand thanks to this post specifically, the FA have carved yet another notch into the 'make sure United get a really bad decision at some point to make up for this one' piece of wood or whatever apparatus it is they use nowadays to keep track of these things.

Needs to work on getting crosses in. We now have the greatest header of the ball perhaps ever. It's simple - AWB needs to get crosses in. Like that ball to Martial against Chelsea. Sancho As well. Ronaldo will not create his own chances. He needs excellent service and AWB needs to improve.

To be fair to him, he does have a decent cross when it needs to be struck first time or when he has created the space. His biggest issue is timing and under/over playing in the final third. With pretty much a designated target in the box, hopefully he won't have to think twice now.

Yeah agree. I think it's a confidence thing, causes a bit of hesitation and the crossing chance is lost. If he's just a bit more assured in his play the crossing would improve.

Having said that he's still not one of those that can cross from all angles. He has to be in a certain area to get a decent ball in.

Man Utd 4:1 Newcastle
We can win 4-1 when he has arguably his worst game for us. I guess that's a good thing, but he looked slow, sloppy, uninterested in attack and I believe lost every single duel with Joelinton. Really bad from our only RB :(

Dalot could get a run

Thought he had a an absolute stinker, and was a bit of a liability.

Think he made one decent slide tackle, other then that he was letting people run off him and constantly losing duels...and on the ball, well, standard AwB

He looks out of his depth and out of step with the rest of the team. It's an area that we need to look at and he isn't the answer for the long-term.

It's so strange, the number of times he was isolated agains the FB as Greenwood went inside and he ran at him...none of them. Now that Ronnie's in the middle, his Valencia impression would work really well, but was not keen to even try.

He put one good cross early in the second half. But a few of his first half ones were floaters. Think he looks too much to pass back when he should at least try to get down the line to give defenders something to think about

With Ronaldo lurking in the box it's even easier to see why we were interested in Trippier, who (for all the flaws I think he has generally) would be offering a hell of a lot more threat than AWB and more ball progression from the right too.

I will say though that I think he'd look less of a weakness if Sancho was ahead of him at RW rather than Greenwood. Which isn't a criticism of Greenwood in any way, just a reflection of the types of players they are.

He’s started terribly this year. I can deal with the inconsistency going forward but he was pretty terrible defending as well today.

Dalot should get a chance soon.

What are you talking about? He has 2 really good performances - look at this thread.

It wasn't good imo, Ronaldo was waiting for the cut back and he didn't look before the cross. It was also way too strong if there were actually anyone there.

Did well to hold Saint Maximin up in that one v one, there's probably only him and Varane I may have trusted in that situation. Did make some defensive mistakes too though.

Thought he was fairly average going forward. It strikes me he's going to have to improve fast if we carry on with this kind of lineup. With Greenwood cutting in, Ronaldo mostly operating centrally and attracting a lot of attention he's going to have acres. We need him to be more of a force to reduce the congestion.

It was into a great position. You need your left attacker (Sancho) coming in on that.

Wasn't great today and makes the job of whoever playing in front of him tougher. Mason was almost every time was marked by 2 players. Need to do a lot more in attack but was decent at what he does best.

I will keep saying this. He would be the one to hold us back while attacking.

Would rather give Dalot the game time and see how he performs. How many times he passed the ball back to Pogba and let him do the passing ? Shit scared of the ball.

I really value him. He tried to get forward and did some crossing today but wasn't accurate with anything.
Defensively he does provide some depth more than most RB so I will never be at an urge to necessarily chuck him out of our team - more just provide him that first class attacking competition that may put him in the subs a whilst and help him identify whats missing in his game.
