He'll be better with Sancho in front. Greenwood and Wan Bissaka on the same flank just doesn't work imo. Neither have an ounce of creativity.

He’ll drag Sancho down as Sancho needs a much better partner to excel. He’s a combination player and AWB struggles there.

Eh, Wan Bissaka has shown ability to link up on the wing in the past and there was a couple of occasions where Sancho played good quick passes to Wan Bissaka to continue the overlap. It'll take some time but I think he'll be better with it more than being something that hinders Sancho.

I think the oil clubs would have already fecked him off and bought new by now.

True but then we're not an oil club.

This is no defence of AWB, I'm not a fan of his ball playing ability. But unless you're PSG or City you can't afford to be throwing money on the same position every year because your previous transfer wasn't a revelation. Every other club would consider it a sunk cost and persevere with him. We tried to get Trippier on the cheap but Atleti were not having any of that, so we gave up.

Aside from that one game against City where he woke up that morning and decided he was Iniesta, he's just never really shown to offer the quality on the ball that you need from your fullback unless you're Burnley and smacking it long to the big lad.

He's had some good games for us, and works just fine against the better sides where we're playing on the counter and he only has to worry about pocketing his winger, but it's like having a second fecking goalkeeper on the right flank when we're looking to attack a team that's sat back.

I don't even think we need to spend huge money on the best fullback we can find, I think we just need someone who can fecking dribble and pass the ball as well as a PL outfield player should be able to. If it comes to it, I wouldn't be against starting Dalot against a lot of the smaller teams because Wan Bissaka just doesn't have a purpose in a lot of these games.

Oh I agree with your post. I'm no fan either. I'd rather take a player good on the ball like TAA than a specialist tackling defender who is ineffective on the offensive side. We're Man United and we dominate 3/4 of our games, we need the RB to be an outlet first and foremost.

But on the bolded, the moment we approach a player you can expect a minimum £35-40m price tag. And you can't keep dropping that much money for right back every 2 years until you get it right. Not if you don't have infinite money and want to improve the rest of the squad.

Everyone was shit, weird to single out AWB who was no worse than anyone else.

I'm sure there's plenty of posts in all the other performance threads (apart from Pogba and De Gea) detailing just how shit everyone else was as well.

Personally, I'm posting here and in the Matic thread because I think it's terminal with those two. Matic is finished and AWB doesn't have any reason to be on the pitch against half the teams we play.

Disagree, you're being very reactive.

I have remained steadfast in my opinion of him, he has no buisiness being a starting right back for manutd. He is one player that we fecking overpaid for. 50m pound for a club like ours should get us someone that can at least handle the ball.

Classic case of caf thinking someone will become great on the basis of "he is young". Looks good for my son then, he's also young. Doesn't mean he will become an elite baller. AWB will never be great on the ball.
Yep. If we're going down the anecdotal route, we only need to look as far as Smalling. If it was so straightforward to improve technically do we not think Smalling would have addressed the main criticism of his career at some point in the 10 years he was here?

It's far, far more likely that Dalot improves defensively (as it's mainly an experience/mental/tactical thing) than it is AWB improves technically. I can only hope Laird has another great season on loan and gets into our first team setup ASAP.

Probably the worst signing Ole has made considering the fee.

I don't understand how club green lit him for 50 mil. 50 mil.

I thought he was pretty good vs Leeds too, but he's so gash in possession at times and it showed today.

Agree. In home games or easier games I can see it being fine, but in the tighter matches, RW will probably continue to he an issue unless we sign a more natural attacking RB who can pass the ball adequately

How can you think that when there's a £40m signing who's not even getting any game time. At least AWB is a fixed starter who contributes to the team.

Van der Beek is currently on course to being the most expensive complete flop at the history of this club. At least Sanchez was just an exchange and he got plenty of game time before we finally gave up on him.

I refuse to believe he is a footballer sometimes.
he looks like he will fall over while dribbling ffs.

I wont argue if we started Dalot over him, in some games at least. He isn't good enough to deserve a status of untouchability

At this point, I'm pretending Van De Beek isn't even a player, but a mascot.

This is what I find weird too.

Bruno was crap, so was Martial, Fred, Matic, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof and Wan Bissaka. Players like Greenwood scored a goal but completely vanished from playing like a striker afterwards etc.

This is why I'm confused why people are picking on Wan Bissaka.

In the two games this season - Shaw has been worse than Wan Bissaka. Why aren't people picking on Shaw? Because of what he did last season?

Wan Bissaka had a very good match in the last game - and then suddenly he is back to being shit in people's brain when the whole of the team became a disappointing mess, including the manager aswell.

I just don't get it.

People make up stuff like he has poor first touch and passing all the time when he doesn't- because he is a player I pay attention to, he has poor dribbling rather than poor first touch and passing. Yesterday he made mistakes with his touches and passing and suddenly its gotten in to people's head that he does that all the time.

Anyway, Wan Bissaka isn't going anywhere - so I'm glad if he is irritating some people who pick him out as a weakness when we have so many obvious gaps all over the pitch first/instead.

I'm definitely worried about his lack of technical ability in his partnership with Sancho.

Its the Aaron Wan bissaka thread and you find it weird people are talking about his performance in here and not other players? Your boy was shite, this is where people are going to discuss it, just like the other players are getting slated in there threads.

Your glad he's irritating people? My god, grow up

No im okay, you calling him "my boy" highlights everything im talking about and shows that you should grow up too.

Wan Bissaka is 'our player' and a good young 23year old player.

Ive got no problem with people talking about his poor performances (like yesterdays - even i called it a poor performance) or to talk about his very good performance last week (vs Leeds).

However, there is a difference between talking about his performances and crying about things like his transfer price & acting like he hasnt had any good performances for us either. Crying about how he is deadwood apparently to some already. How he wont be ever picked by another CL team but only ever us.

Yeah, i will continue to be happy if he irritates you and the others because the fact that some of the other players didnt says alot about how you view the player prior to his performance at all.

I do need to grow up, agree with you on that.

You do have a problem with people saying anything negative about him, you live in here waiting to defend him, leading you to post stupid things like your last 'why are people saying things about AWB in the AWB thread' post...Nearly every players getting slated in there own thread if you bothered to look, thats how the player performance thread works. I dont know if your always this stupid or its just your blind love for AWB putting your head on spin, but if your going to stop making a fool of yourself, you need to accept people have a different opinion to you. He's got some serious strengths and some glaring weakness, anybody who knows anything about football can see that, because of this, he's going to divide opinion more than most players. For me he's ideal for certain games and not a good enough footballer for others.

Your kidding no one with your happy he's irritating people, your the most irritated person in this thread. Im happy i and the others irritate you with our opinion of AWB, i could leave this thread alone all season knowing you'l be in here getting yourself worked up time and time again.

Just because others were shit doesn't mean we can't criticize lesser shit players.

Some of his passing yesterday was absolutely dreadful - it's like he switches off his brain at times. Contrasting his contribution with Shaw on the other side, it really is evident just how big a difference it makes to have a full-back with attacking qualities. It's hard to imagine him suddenly become amazing at it, but he should still improve. If he can't improve we may need a back-up with different qualities for the low-block sides.

I am sure we will not win a league with him at RB. In the last 20 mins when we were chasing for a goal, everytime the ball went to his side he lost it and all momentum was lost.

No way we can play attacking football with AWB in the side. He has 0 attributes going forward. His runs are crap, his passing is probably the worst for RB in the league, his link up with players is not there.

He is so bad when we need a goal.

Everyone gets excited when he plays against Liverpool, City and does really well but those games we play defensive so he has players around him, we dont play many games where we are constantly under attack.

Whilst his 1v1 defending is an asset he is a liability positionally & his offensive play is at points non-existent.

He gets given space game after game with no tangible progress in these situations. Our lack of threat from R B is as much a handicap as anything else in this team.
Good post. I kind of feel he should be deployed in a back three with Maguire and Varane, akin to Chelsea's back 3. This will no doubt conceal his weakness IMO.

I don't think anything has changed -- Wan Bissaka remains the one player who teams leave the most space to because he's the least effective on it.

I think we can all accept that when he's bad, he can be awful, but let's not overreact and say that he's rubbish

If we did ever sell him, I think we'd end up kicking ourselves as someone else makes the most of him.

Whenever pressed he has this deeply annoying habit of darting the ball in the direction of the touch line, which turns his back on all his teammates, making him much easier to target.

Think he made a lot of sense for Solskjaer's first edition of a United team but as the team improves he sticks out more and more as a technical weak link. He wasn't the worst performer by any stretch but I can't help but think his position will be under threat sooner rather than later.

Along with almost half of our outfield players yesterday, he was atrociously poor.

Yeah a bit weird singling him out yesterday considering our entire backline was gash. Our captain put in a much worse performance than he did. Shaw wasn't exactly great either.

Having said that I still feel like we'd need to sign Trippier if we want to get the best out of Sancho playing RW.

and there’s more:

I've said it so many times but he treats the ball like a 'free hit'. It's so lackadaisical and without purpose it's infuriating.

He's young and there's a lot of room for growth but he really needs a coach that can nurture this. I don't expect him to become Cafu even after say 5 years of continous improvement but he surely can be more cultured in possession.

It doesn't help we have such an unorganised set up when it comes to build up play.

and there’s more:

This is taken from a huge period of time...you could literally put together footage of Maguire being crap, Lindelof being average, even Shaw being poor when you use an entire season. AWB has yet to start with Sancho, who will be the first genuine RW he has ever payed with, can we at least give him the chance to play in that role where he actually has passing options before writing him off.

There has to be a focus on coaching, he is a young player and should be improving all the time - he has all the raw attributes to do well and is three years younger than Shaw.

I'm a big fan AWB but his performance on Sunday was rotten, that was inexcusable. The worrying thing is two of our other reliable players on a weeke to week basis, Shaw and Maguire also looked well below their normal level.

What's not true is some posters trying to make out like this was a typical performance from him. This was no doubt one of his worst games here.

His technique or decision-making isn’t going to magically improve because of Sancho.

We are not going to win anything if AWB is our RB.

He is only good at slide tackling, the rest of his game is below average.

I mean both would improve dramatically with coaching, which is kind of the point.

I'd argue his general ball skills are actually good, his issue is that because of our RW situation he's becoming a carbon copy of Valencia when he'd get the ball out wide, then just pivot inwards and pass back/sideways. In my opinion Sancho will go a long way towards fixing this & Varane will also allow him to receive the ball a good 5-10metres higher up the pitch compared to when next to Lindelof. Let's see I guess.

I loved that cross that I think Shaw provided that went all the way across to the RW area where AWB Cross/tapped it back to one of Pogba or Bruno to head it just off.
