Seasoned pundits calling him one of the best defensive full backs in the world.

Redcafe: He's fecking shite, get rid, football is his enemy, weak mentality, never good enough.

Yeah the mistake is bad, but people are overreacting like crazy. He's maybe not the best offensive full-back in the world, but to make him out as the problem in our squad is a bit of a stretch no? He was more than fine last season in my opinion, and I quite like him. H

Red card and last night aside he's been dining out on the go go gadget legs sliding recovery tackle for a while now. Technically he's bang average and as we saw last night, possesses the touch and finesse of a rapist.

He's a solid player who misjudged a tackle by an inch. It's not something to get too upset by and it's not the reason we lost the game. That's on the coaches and Lingard.

He is usually a very good tackler.
But he never seems to think much. A very reactionary player, and that simply doesn't fit our team now.

Poor touch, clumsy desperate lunge to make up for it, seen it lots of tiems, deserrved red tough a mistake, changed the game.

Improved last season and its a big season for him. Ive always been a fan. It is important for him to imrpove his positioning this season as the biggest thing. His crossing and going forward playing simple developed last season but needs to go further. Hopefully once Sancho settles they can develop a partnership.

I think he has done ok here. However, it is his third season now, so the young player settling and also the inexperienced player at full back that he was havign been converted....that is now gone. He does need to push on this season into the player I think he can be as he needs to now go beyond ok to have a big long term career here. I think he can

You'd hope the red card doesn't make him more wary of committing to challenges, as that's his one strength.

He’s poor on the ball(can’t cross, head or shoot)and his positioning is also poor.

He’s good at one v ones and that’s about it.

Thats not a solid player.

Blah Blah. Complain all you want, I like him in our squad.

He is suited to more counter attacking set up so is better as our 2nd RB than our starting RB since we have started to become a more possession heavy based team. Its not like Ole didn't know this but Athletico wanted 40 million for Trippier.

Fans crying about money down the drain like they are worth more than him

Useful player who is different to most RB's. Time we get a more traditional one and tell him to get a bit better.

The overreaction on here. It's only his second-ever red card in his career. He's a good RB. Can dribble out of a tight space, doesn't panic as much as our previous RBs and generally gets in good positions offensively. Defensively, he sometimes loses focus, but being next to CL Varane should help.

Internet fans being very reactionary per usual.

Fact is he is one of the best RBs in the game.

Either Laird proves himself or we're gonna need a big investment in that position soon.

In an ideal world he'd be the backup right back rather than the first choice. Next summer will require a DM and a RB.

Wasn't a fan right from the off. You could see at Palace that he lacked pretty much everything other than a good recovery tackle to be a top player. Nothing that has happened since has convinced me otherwise.

The difference between Shaw and AWB is gargantuan. He's just nowhere near good enough for this club. End of story.

The amount you talk about him I'd think you were a fan.

What annoys me about Wan Bissaka getting sent off was it was needless. I may accept a last ditch challenge in a 1v1 outside of our box. However, he made the challenge in Young Boys' final third.

Ignore the fact he ends up making the tackle solely because his first touch is garbage. Seeing that there was no real danger for us defensively he could have just not gone into the tackle. Accept the turnover of possession, regroup and go again.

Completely brainless to go raring into a 50/50 like that, especially when you are 1-0 up and don't need to chase the game.

Definite red. Not malicious but hopefully he'll learn not to do that again. Doesn't reflect him as a player. These things happen.

Seems to me like we have a lot of these "ball playing issues" started with ddg, smalling, Jones, then we signed lulaku, james, now fred, mctom and now AWB. Granted we are now signing players specifically good at it, but seeing many of them are actively regressing in these aspect, i believe this is a coaching issue. Still a stupid tackle.

AWB is such an extreme case, though.
He arrived as a project who is unusually raw on the ball and, at this point, I am not sure any amount of coaching will ever make him even a below-average RB in that respect.

Poor touch.

But he's made that tackle over 100 times and won the ball.

Was also better offensively than Sancho during their time on the pitch last night. I'm really happy we have him as a right back.

These things happen. Reckless but not a dirty tackle. But still probably cost us the game, as we were well on top before his sending off. Some bad substitute decisions again I thought.

We see those sort of red cards all the time. Heavy touch allowing the ball to get away, player stretches to recover it in a panic and ends up out of control.

It's frustrating and will now get the blame for the loss, hopefully he can learn from. Would have been better to just lose the ball in the end, not every ball needs to be won back immediately.

I can't blame him too much though, it's just a split second reaction.

AWB is just so clumsy... in attack and defense.
He is like the anti-Rio....most unsmooth defender I ever saw. Heinze was better on the ball and more spatial aware.

Don't know what you are seeing mate. He is the best one on one defender in Premier League.
Tackle was reckless but have seen same from some World class defenders.

His red card was just a mistake that can happen to anyone. He doesn't get sent off often at all, so no issues with letting that one completely slide.

However, being a good 1v1 defender is such a small part of the total requirements for a Manchester United fullback. Questions are legitimately raised about his overall game. Aerial ability, positioning, ball control, link up are all highly suspect. Shaw is not the best 1v1 defender in the EPL but he's far more rounded as a fullback and everyone is raving about him.

Mainly offensive side and crosses.

Mainly offensive side and crosses.

No, not only. He's very suspect aerially, his often gets caught positionally, his first touch is poor, his short passing link up with the RM/RW barely existent. It's not just crosses and dribbles. In fact, I think his crossing is actually decent when he gets space to put one in.

Yes one on one he is very good.
Im more referring to his awful positioning. It always seems he is bit slower to anticipate bit awkward in closing the right spaces. Clumsy might not be the right word to describe him defensively.

Classic case of poor first touch leading to a poor tackle. It's just in his nature to want to win every ball, make every tackle and every block. It cost us the game last night, but that mentality cleared off the line vs Wolves.

He's cost us the win unfortunately, but we still should have come out of that game with a draw, and basically had done so until the final kick of the game.

The reason he went for the tackle is because after his poor touch he felt if he won the ball that he would be one on one vs the goal keeper because it was the last defender.

Just wishful stupid thinking from him.

Well that’s it then. Terminate his contract and close this thread. It’s over.

I'm a fan of his but he has been poor this season apart from the Wolves game. Just seems so slow / complacent in possession and even his defending hasn't been up to it.

It was obviously a poor tackle, a definite red and it had a huge influence on us losing the game... but, he wasn't responsible for a lot of the garbage that came after. So while he deserves the dunces cap in training this week, I'm wary about pinning the entire blame on him. I certainly don't think this changes my view on his career trajectory. He's solid, he's improving, but at this moment in time lacks the spark to suggest he's a long term United mainstay in the making.

We could have salvaged something were it not for Lingard, but Aaron is the main culprit for last night. And easy game turned nightmare because of him.

It happens and it's not the end of the World, but he has been very poor this season with his passing and lack of support in front. Last night was the culmination of this terrible form.

The coaches have nothing to do with a crazy red card and a crazy back pass ffs.

I don’t think his lack of a brain cost him last night, more his lack of technical ability. I just don’t see what he offers - he gets caught out of position all the time, and doesn’t help our attack at all. Genuinely think Dalot deserves a chance.

He looks so clumsy with the ball, you always have a feeling he is about to fall down. It's not been great year for him, I can see us going for Trippier in January if Wan Bissaka's form doesn't improve and Dalot doesn't prove himself when given chance.
