A Tribute to Roy Hodgson - his LFC legacy in quotes

Drawing at home to Wigan........Has the King Kenny surprise factor began to wear off?

I think the party line is that Wigan are a decent side, who are better than their position in the table suggests, so being pegged back at home by them is acceptable.

Basically all that stuff they hated Roy for - downplaying expectations and talking up the opposition - it's all ok to do now.

Come on, it is amusing. He was a shot manager, I've never claimed otherwise, but he still signed the player that has been the only goal threat for Liverpool for quite some time. Most of the rest look about as likely to score as the referee.

Which mustn't sit entirely well with Liverpool fans who want to put all the club's ills at Roy's door. It would be much easier to keep shovelling shit on Roy if one of Rafa's lovechildren like Kuyt or Maxi was banging them in.

"Yes we've scored! Ah, Meireles. Roy's signing. Again... ok, I'll blame Roy if we concede an equaliser instead."

eh? Not really. Meireles was acknowledged as a good signing pretty much from day one. Doesn't change the fact that roy was a shit manager. Who, incidentally, didn't have a clue how to actually use Raul and fecking played him on the right.

He has never been this prolific though. Kenny seems to be bringing something new out of him.

nah. Even with the wrongly allowed goal, drawing at home to wigan is plain not good enough. Kenny won't and shouldn't be happy with a repeat of that.

I think our game suffered from our lack in depth. Gerrard and Agger out, Suarez coming off. Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio and decent players, but they need better players than themselves around them to be more than that. N'gog was being N'gog and Lucas was having an off-day himself.

We were crying out for Gerrard in a game like this, tbh.

Can't help yourself.

Kenny is responsible for his own results. I won't be blaming Hodgson or Rafa for us failing to win games the team is good enough to win, such as yesterday.

Same way Roy was, and Rafa before him.

Strange that it was on here that posters were apologetic on Roy's behalf because Rafa was to blame for the results and now you're mocking the [imagined] tendency to blame the predecessor?

Well it is funny.

Plenty more laughs to come too, I reckon.

It's quite funny how Roy's signing Meireles is singlehandedly keeping a very average Liverpool team out of the relegation poop.

It's funnier how Hodgson bought a decent player but didn't have a clue where to play him. If he had a clue, it might have prolonged his job. In the end though, he was a little clueless.

His loss is our gain.

"36 years speaks for itself"

Good old Roy is back in the game. Now with another year of having learned feck all to add to his resume:

"I'd like to think I haven't changed my style or philosophy very much".

This is what you have to look forward to WBA. Dreary football and press conferences alternating between Roy talking about his CV and talking down your chances of surviving relegation.

"are these a squad of players you can keep up?"

Roy: "I don't know"

Getting them in early, despite the fact they arent in the relegation zone and have a game in hand.

I've quoted this so that you won't delete it when time to eat your words comes.

Do you think the Liverpool players are over-performing under Kenny?
Yes. Your squad is poorer than you think. Just think about it, you lot moaned about losing at home to Blackpool. Then Kenny goes and does the same thing away to that same side. Even after taking the lead I.I.R.C.

It will take you a while but you will soon realise even Kenny can't work a miracle with such poor resources. The current feel good factor wont last that much longer IMO. Wigan was a start of their true colours returning to focus.

Did you think Hodgson was doing a good job then, Chief?
He was doing enough with what he had. With a hostile fan base and a hostile board making his job as hard as possible.

Hodgson was given neither the required time, resources or respect to do a 'good job'.

Dalglish is a 'messiah' type appointment - he brings a feelgood factor with him which will inevitably bring about an upturn in performaces both individually and collectively. The question is how long it will last...

I really don't think it's a 'feelgood factor' bounce, BL.

To me it's the difference between a manager who was fundamentally out of his depth and a manager who isn't.

Time will tell I guess. Bet I'm right, mind. :)

:lol:Says the man obsessed with re-writing Hodgson's history:lol:

It's cool, Chief. Your internet is one of keeping score cards on posters, including ones apparently pathetic enough to go back and delete their old posts.

It's a bit weird, but ok. I'm game.*

*When I say 'I am game' I of course mean: "I don't actually care if you dig up my posts years later, but whatever floats your boat."

Since Kenny's taken over you've won 5, drawn 2 and lost 2. Decent form, and clearly much, much improved, but it's still not great is it? That sort of form wouldn't get you Champions League most seasons. Admittedly there was a couple of hard games there - away to us and Chelsea, but it's pretty much cancelled out by Fulham, Stoke, Everton and Wigan at home, all teams with dreadful, poor or middling away form.

It's not great. Much improved, nevertheless. I think we'll finish 6th comfortably under Kenny.

Motivator par excellence. I hope Mourinho is taking notes.

A baggie fan calls it early:

His job isn't to be honest for the sake of honesty.
His job is to lift the players for a very short run in and stay up.
He can save his home truths and tough love for the summer when the squad gets reshaped.
Right now he needs to accentuate the positives, get the belief back and send them on the pitch feeling 10 feet tall.
Problem is, he is exactly the wrong man at the wrong time for that.

Sure. That is why he took over a Fulham side in even a more precarious position than West Brom is in and by the time he left they had even played a Europa league final. How wise that fan is.

He seems to think Roy should tell open lies like West Brom have a fantastic squad and should really challenging for a European place....after less than a day in the job. All in the name of 'motivation'.

Christ, how long are you going to be banging on about this?

You're dripping with bitterness and mocking a man who, let's face it, you probably know feck all about in reality.

There's got to be more productive ways to spend your time surely?

On a United forum, no less.

It's completely mental.

He could be telling them things like 'I've only been here a short time, but it's evident they have the quality to stay in the premiership. With the right attitude and good tactics, I am confident these players are good enough to get us safely away from the relegation line. That's what I am here to do.'

Mourinho has been telling porkies about his team to his team and the press since forever. It works. I am not expecting Roy to change that much, but he seems blissfully ignorant of things like player motivation.

Fair enough.

Now explain Fulham.

He could be telling them things like 'I've only been here a short time, but it's evident they have the quality to stay in the premiership. With the right attitude and good tactics, I am confident these players are good enough to get us safely away from the relegation line. That's what I am here to do.'

So, keep saying what the just fired manager was saying.

Good call.

Have you ever heard the story of the USA 1980 hockey team that beat the USSR team?

Might want to check it out. Hodgson is using the same tactic with his new team that Herb Brooks did with that team. It's pretty much the same thing he did with Fulham, as I was told by Carlos Bochanegra's father while it was going on. Worked then. Might work now.

Rafa slags off squad and complains that he can't do anything without new players - he's a hero who's taking a stand against the evil owners.

Hodgson slags off squad and complains that he can't do anything without new players - he's destroying team morale and ruining the players' confidence.

The wonderful mind of a scouser.

Which would all be lies. He hadn't been in the job beyond a day. He has no idea how good or bad his players are.

Mourinho doesn't tell obvious bullshit about his teams at all. You clearly don't know the difference between motivation and speaking bullshit.

Besides, in case you never noticed confidence is not what West Brom lack Its the ability to defend. Motivational speeches wont teach them that.
