Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I think they've pulled enough stuff forward that they could squeeze book 4 and 5 into one non-boring season.

I think over the past seasons, much of the quality has come from Kings Landing. But with no Tywin/Tyrion/Sansa/Littlefinger/Joffrey/Jaime that won't be the case next season. It'll just turn into the Lena Headey show there. Also a bit of a problem from the sense that nothing really happens at the Eyrie, and Jaime and Tyrion expand the separate plotlines even more. Basically alot of the best character interactions from past seasons cease to exist as everyone is off on their own merry adventure.

The creators of the show said that it would run at least 7 seasons and 8 at the most so I guess they will stick with one season one book philosophy but might end up taking 3 seasons for the final two books.

I think book 4 and 5 will remain one season each but we will see a massive amount of stuff that isn't in the books.
My bet would be a single season for the next fourth and fifth book combined and then two or three seasons for the final unpublished books.

Pretty sure books 4 and 5 will run parallel and encompass two seasons total.

Two boring seasons.

Nah they'll just squeeze most of it into one. They're not going to have Daenerys in Meereen for 2 more seasons when her story there is already progressing and well into ADWD.

My hope is that Martin will release TWOW before the equivalent season begins on TV then I can blitz through that. I've lost hope that the books will come out in full before the show finishes.

It depends on how far they get, they have chewed through most of Sansa's story for example, at some stage next season assuming they just don't mention her at all, she will surpass current book plotting, same with Bran, I think.

So the book needs to be out by May next year, in order to run parallel with possible 'spoilers' from the TV show, I can't see it, certainly it won't matter by 2016 when the 7th season comes out and the final book is still 3 years away.

It's rare for HBO to take over 7 seasons on anything, as much as they'd like to milk this for all it's worth, I think they are aware that peoples attention spans are limited and they risk ruining it with filler.

I just thought maybe it'd be in the same episode as the fight, as Jaime frees him that very night. Would be up there as one of the best episodes ever.

The fight episode will probably end with the Mountain punching the Red Viper in the face and killing him.

That Arya storyline in Book 5 is going to be an absolute nightmare to finish.

Re-reading the book again and Catelyn Tully, what a train wreck. Everything she does, turns to shit. FFS woman.

:(

I'm already dreading the look on Oberyn's face when he's trying to extract the confession out of Gregor and lets his guard down, allowing Gregor to smash his face off.

Speaking of her, wonder if she'll re-appear in the final episode?

I don't think they'll give that away. Anybody resurrected so far? If they show that Cat is alive, then there will be a lot of speculation on who else could be revived.

yes they've shown beric dondarrion come back alive on the show

Good point.

Why not? They've already basically pushed it back. It could have been at the end of last season. I think it's very likely that we'll get to see her in episode 10.

The bitch.

Yeah, evil bitch. That smug face while taking Tyrion Lannister captive, FFS. They might, although they may want to keep the surprise for the next season as the 4 and 5 books are little short on explosive turning points. She doesn't do much, even after she becomes a vampire, does she?

Nah. It is the epilogue of A Storm of Swords, so it should be the very last thing on this season.

Agree that she's a bitch, together with her son (after he was self proclaimed as the idiot of the North, in the first book he was cool) were my least favorite characters.

I wonder if the original actor is going to come back to just stand around and look scary. I can't think of a shittier role to play after being one of the leads. Hours of makeup and no dialogue.

Lena Heady posted a picture on instagram last week of stones in the shape of a heart.

Why the feck would you hate Catelyn? Sure she isn't the brightest but then that goes for all the Starks

Catelyn was a bitch before she was dead, and when she was dead she just became a bit of a cnut.

It's not black and white, she had her motivations and her ideas about protecting the family, and all that. Still, though. Bitch.

I never thought she was a bitch. She had issues with Jon Snow for obvious reasons, but I never thought she was a bitch, especially when compared to people like Cersei. From memory she seemed to treat everybody else ok as long as they weren't Lannisters.

She's a mare throughout the book. First, she pressures Eddard to accept the job of King's Hand because she wants Sansa to be the queen and wed to Joffrey. She has no little or no clue about Joffrey, yet she finds it easy to make an alliance for Sansa. In the name of motherhood gone mad, she completely rejects all her children and is stuck up with Bran, hates Jon Snow for no fault of his own. Immediately after the attempt on Bran's life with the dagger, she seems fit to run off to King's Landing to get revenge, overlooking the possibility of other attempts on Bran's life. Comes back from King's Landing, finds Tyrion in the inn, takes him captive, when her husband and two daughters are at King's Landing, very much at the mercy of Lannisters. All this within the first 10 chapters.

So yeah, Cersei is a bitch no doubt, but if Catelyn Tully is to be pardoned for being a mother for most of these neanderthal feckup's, Cersei would look a lot better if you overlook her protecting her children. Both the women are cruel to Tyrion as well.

I don't think that's why she wanted Eddard to accept the job, it had something to with the letter from Lysa I think though I will have to crosscheck that.

Her having no clue about Joffrey is a shite point. She had no clue about Ned when she married him either. That's the way it was in Westeros. She was grief stricken with Bran. Understandable reaction and she did recover after. Her treatment of Jon is in all likelihood a lot better than most women in her position. Cersie wants none Robert's bastards anywhere near while Catelyn, although not liking Jon consents not only to having him at Winterfell but pretty much behaving like a Stark. Most of the time she just ignored him. The rest of her actions are stupid, not bitchy. Hating characters for being stupid..is well stupid in itself.
