Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

He could have brought the faceless man with him on the boat and just waited until balon was dead.
As I said, for me there is too much doubt whether it was actually Euron who hired the FM.

As a theory, for me, its not as strong as "Frey Pies".

Edit: Re: Euron, I should add that I have no idea who else would hire a FM to kill Balon. We haven't heard about anyone having any grievance against Balon to go to the extent of hiring a FM and to afford their price. And if Euron is to be believed he had a dragon egg, (which I think he says he threw it in the sea) which given their rarity might be considered a good price for killing Balon. You could also say that since Balon falls off the brigde, Euron was probably referring to that as what he did with the dragon egg went.

I think that Euron payed FM with his dragon egg. However he should have given them something else, because in order to pay FM you need to give them wealth but also to do a sacrifice.

There is no way that Euron simply lost his dragon egg. That is too valuable to throw it at sea. He has done something with it.

Once through. I don't think I would be able to go through them again, I already have a pile of unread books on my table.

You should read it a 2nd time. I enjoyed it a lot more on my re-read. The first time I read it, I only remembered the important plot details, the rest just escaped me.

I don't like the way they've set it up with the Hound and Shae. Both characters being killed off will seem cold blooded. In the books The Hound was a lot more aggressive, and Shae just used Tyrion for money. In the show, the Hound is a bit more sympathetic and Shae seems to be more of a victim than manipulative.

I didn't get that read on Shae from the books. I thought she genuinely loved Tyrion, but she was captured and her choice was to whore, or die. Being that she was a whore, she was going to obviously not choose to die.

I also think the hound is portrayed pretty well. I never got the sense he was a total ass. I feel like it's pretty much spot on. Ruthless, pragmatic, but essentially an ok guy.

I disagree with niMic. It was laid on pretty thick that she was in it for the money, only cared about pretty dresses and moaned about not being taken to parties with Lords and Ladies.

Yeah it seemed pretty obvious in the books. I wasn't shocked by it.

Is Varys a Faceless Man? He seems to have the ability to change easily and blend in. Also if he was the faceless man that was paid with a Dragon Egg it may explain how Dany got one of her 3 eggs.

Uh. No. Don't even go down that route.

In other news, there's some new casting news. Not as in specifics of who is cast, because that hasn't been decided yet, or at least not for these characters.

http://winteriscoming.net/2014/05/23/characters-confirmed-game-thrones-season-5-new-details/

  • Prince Doran Martell – Doran is described as the major new player this year, appearing in multiple episodes. The fiftysomething prince uses a wheelchair, is reclusive and rules wisely. It appears the show is looking to continue the trend it started with Pedro Pascal, and cast Latino actors for the Martell clan.
  • Prince Trystane Martell – Trystane, the handsome fiance of Princess Myrcella, is being aged up to 18.
  • Areo Hotah - Doran’s personal bodyguard will appear throughout the season, assisting the prince with his duties. The show is particularly looking for a black actor to fill the role.
The Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters (with ages ranging 18-25):

  • Obara Sand – The eldest and most athletic Sand Snake will be having a major fight scene with a series regular character- not one who crosses her path in the books. This is an interesting change.
  • Nymeria Sand – Nymeria is described as “mixed race,” with her father being the fairer Oberyn and her mother being darker skinned. The second oldest of these Sand Snakes, she’s beautiful, emotional and very strong.
  • Tyene Sand - The youngest of the Sand Snakes that we meet uses her wits and seductive powers, and is less of a physical fighter than the other Sand Snakes. She is just as deadly as her sisters, however, but her weapon is poison.

  • High Sparrow - The books’ pious head of a religious movement will be appearing in several episodes in season 5.
  • Septa Unella – The show is looking for a character actress to play the imposing and unrelenting septa who spends a lot of time with a major series character next year.
  • Maggy the Frog- A fortune teller in A Feast for Crows, she’ll be in one episode next year.
  • Lollys Stokeworth – Just last week in “Mockingbird,” Bronn announced his intention to marry Lollys, whom Tyrion considers “dimwitted.” It looks like the sellsword will still be around next year.
  • Yezzan - A sleazy Meereenese slave owner.
  • The Waif – The strange child from the books that Arya encounters will likely be played by an older actress, one in her later teens, and we understand the show is specifically looking for a woman of East Asian descent for the part.

I'm looking forward to the portrayal of Doran and the sand snakes. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they cast all the 3 sand snakes though, didn't expect that.

Anything about Euron and Victarion?

Nope, but it seems very unlikely that they would even combine the two. Euron is obviously very important, and Victarion would make a perfect TV show character. The fact that they aren't listed there might be because the role has already been filled, or offered to someone, or simply that the list is incomplete.

Why on Earth they haven't confirmed Arianne, she's the most important character on the Dorne part of the story.

Oh, yeah completely forgot about Arianne.

I expected them to combine the sand snakes given they are not particularly important.

Maggy the Frog will be in the next season? Does that mean they'll do a flashback?

It's been theorized that maybe they'll push Maggy to the "present", and have it as sort of a "Cersei in mourning over Tywin" situation. That would take away one of the reasons for Cersei always hating Tyrion, though, so I don't know if that's very likely.

I don't think he's black (is he?), but it won't really matter because he's not all that important a character and his background doesn't really change too much about him. My guess is they want to get rid of any claims that ethnic minorities are under-represented in the show, so will just make Areo black since it doesn't really change anything.

If they intend to cast a black guy, then Doctore from Spartacus would be a good choice.

They're looking for a black actor to play Areo Hotah?

Isn't he from the summer isles or something like that? My memory fades but pretty sure he's not form Dorne. I'm just glad he's in it either way, looking forward to someone getting giant-axe-cleaved-in-two!

No, just found it a bit odd really to actively seek somebody who wouldn't look anything like his description in the books. I've said the same about any other actor they've changed the appearance of so don't worry your head, I'm not being racist.

He's an Andal, so in all likelihood he would be pale. Like Cheesy said, though, his background has zero impact on the character.

Yeah he's from Norvos, it obviously doesn't make a jot of difference but just seemed a bit odd to actively seek someone completely different.

It's almost certainly simply to get some variety. Salladhor Saan didn't really look like the show character either, but it hasn't really made a difference to the story. In the end these are the sort of things the show producers have to do, so we just have to hope they get a good actor for what is going to be a great character.

I'm not suggesting you're being racist at all. I just don't understand why it would require any real discussion.

Clearly if they decided to cast the Targaryens as black actors or the Lannisters as South East Asians or the Wildings raided the wall while wearing turbans, then it would be rather weird because all of those groups have rather defining physical features in the books which can only be fulfilled by certain actors. And their physical appearance is a huge plot point.

For Areo Hotah? It doesn't really make any difference.

I don't mind who they cast for Areo Hotah, as long as they don't deflate his 'aura' like they did with the Mountain.

I'm not sure the show watchers will find the TRV-Mountain combat inthe next episode as interesting as we did. They just don't know the Mountain the way the book-readers, do.

There are going to be a lot of new characters next season. Should be exciting. TV only viewers to be more confused.

So, anyone know if they've said whether book 4 will be 1 or 2 seasons?

If the rest of the books are given 2 seasons this series will be 8 years more in the making and 11 seasons overall!

Can see them merging most of book 4/5 into one season to keep the show moving forward. They'll want to keep momentum going and too really slow seasons will kill a lot of that. It'll be a good move as well.

The creators of the show said that it would run at least 7 seasons and 8 at the most so I guess they will stick with one season one book philosophy but might end up taking 3 seasons for the final two books.

I think book 4 and 5 will remain one season each but we will see a massive amount of stuff that isn't in the books.
