Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I thought the scene in the inn was done really good actually.

I think the best thing about Sean Bean being cast as Ned is that he's the actor in the show everyone knows, and those who haven't read the books will get an absolute "what the feck" when he gets beheaded and realize that nobody is safe in this thing. Just like GRRM wanted.

Theon is in it a bit too much for me. I don't know whether they're trying to portray him as good/bad or what. He was a weak character in the books, only really there for a plot point.
I do agree the Mountain should be bigger. He's the books most hatable character and they haven't really put that across enough, but I'm sure they will.
Jon is well cast I think. Sam, meh. I think it just takes adjusting to the fact that they're all older in it.

Theon is a POV character that is why he gets as much face time as he does.

The Mountain is actually over 7 feet and about 320 pounds in real life. Not gonna find many actors bigger or more muscular than him at that size. In the book he was bigger, but guys like that don't really exist ;p

Not in book one though. It's probably setting it up so we know who he is for season 2.

Ya, sorry I should have said in book 2. I don't think he has had too much face time myself, he still figured prominently in book 1 and the scenes he has had so far have fit with that. Enough face time so people know who he is, but not a major character yet.

I just found this and started reading the books(I'm half way through the 2nd), can anyone summarize how the characters of Arya, Jon and Bran progress as the books go on? They're my faves so far.

What kind of summary are you looking for? It would be difficult without spoiling anything for you!

Just like a do they continue being major characters or do their characters change somewhat like Sansa went from being happy naive girl to taking charge.

Yes they continue being major characters. I wouldn't say their characters change per se, they definitely 'mature' though. You probably won't even be able to guess which other characters become major players, or who changes the most or even what happens to Jon, Arya and Bran though so I guess I can tell you that much without spoiling it!

I don't understand people who come in here and want us to tell them what happens or how things change. Why are you reading the books then? Stay out of the thread, avoid all new information, and read the books yourself. You'll be better off for it.

He was a PoV in the 2nd book, not the 1st.

Halfman, Halfman !!

Looking forward to tonight when about a million people collectively go, WTF? Should be fun.

Is Ned going to get the chop tonight then? I'm only up to episode 4 still. Will probably watch an episode a week, but I'm more eager for Series 2 to come about!

It will only get better. I still maintain GoT was the weakest of the books, Clash of Kings is going to be ace

Right when is this aired in the UK? Disappointing lack of reactions at Ned's beheading so far in the other thread.

Tonight, can't wait to see it.

I finished the first book last night and I was disappointed about Ned, but I could see it coming to be honest. I want to kill Joffrey!

Ah I thought it aired Sunday, or is that just the US?

Have you only read the first book? It's about to get a whole lot better from here on in!

US Sunday, UK Monday.

I am about 50 pages into the clash of kings. Been on a bit of a reading rampage over the last week or so.

Seriously, if I ever see the guy who plays Joffrey I'd probably punch him just for that move. I knew Ned was going to die but was hoping Ned would stand tall and keep his belief and pretty much go down swinging. Even Cersei seemed a bit off by it, or I just saw wrong.

Gutted about Drogo, he was my favourite character and was hoping he'd go do some stuff on the main land but seems not to be the case.

Cersei didn't want Ned dead. First they want to avert war as much as possible AND She knows Jamie had been captured by this time, although they don't allude to it in the show. She knows if Ned dies, Jamie dies.

Next week is going to be crazy.

So i finished storm of swords last night, absolutely brilliant ending. Actually i think the whole book has been the best in series so far, the last quarter or so really ramped up the drama and threw some brilliant twists in

i'll put this in spoilers just in case as i can see people discussing the tv series in the last few posts and i've been told off before for revealing shit.

very big spoilers regarding all of the storm of swords book
i was gutted about 3/4s into the book when it seemed Arya had died by the hounds axe, she'd been my favourite character and i'd been looking forward to her becoming the skin changing, water dancing, revenge missioning, bad-ass ninja type since the first book. a big grin filled my face when her name popped up a few chapters later. shame she didnt get to carve joffery open but at least the little cnut got his finally and her execution of the ticker was sweet as

Jaimes POV has been really good, particularly toward the end. Now with Tywin dead and Tyrion split i'm eager to find out what happens with the lannisters whereas previously i just wanted them all dead, i really warmed to him by the end

I liked Danys story in the begining but it got a little tired toward the end. i get the feeling she'll start fecking anything that moves in the next book, including her dragons.

The epilogue was brilliant aswell, talk about make you eager for the next book.
Zombie Catelyn! fecking bring it on

I'm in Storm again(second read) and just remembered how much I liked the Queen of Thorns(Maergery's grandmother). She's an awesome character.

Also, Catelyn is one of the characters I like least. She's always so bitchy.

Yeah I've never liked Catelyn. I'm just finished part 1 of a Storm of Swords, I can't believe how much I've forgotten. I mean, I remember massive plot points like characters being killed and stuff, but I've forgotten so many characters and their relevance to plots.

Although it has been 6 years since I read the thing to be fair. But it's great reading it again now because I almost don't know what's going to happen next, it's almost like reading it afresh.

I also never read A Feast For Crows, I finished the 3rd book right before I started study for my exams so I didn't really get a chance to, despite having it. So that's something to look forward to now. Should hopefully have that read by the time A Dance with Dragons is out.

And then I'll have to re read everything again before the 6th book comes out in 10 fecking years or whatever.

The promo for the finale looks tasty. The quick shot of Ice dripping with blood followed by reaction shots of the children and Cat saying 'We'll kill them all'. :D
I'm also glad that they're doing the Dany-scene in the night, for some reason in my minds-eye it happened in the day, but this would work out better I think. Also, they let out a pretty big spoiler proclaiming Rob the 'King of the North' in the promo. They should have saved the reveal for the show. Mighty fine looking promo though. Can't wait !

Caught up to the latest episode. Loving it so far. Hope it goes on for 5-6 seasons.

At Waterstones it's 3 for 2 on the books and they cost like £6 i think, if i ask a question about the books does it need to be in a spoiler?

No, though if you haven't read the books then you might want to be careful what you read. No spoilers necessary as this thread is for the people who have read the books, and is already full of plenty of book spoilers

I don't really care about getting told things in advance. I'm halfway through a clash of kings, and Sansa angers me. Please tell me she dies?
