Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Dance with Dragons can be literally summed up as.

Words are wind.

GRRM made one huge fecking book and said and did basically nothing. Forget the Jon Snow red herring. GRRM realized he had to throw something into the book to divert attention from the fact almost nothing happened!

This fat bastard is going to probably die before he finishes the series :(

I'm about mid way through dance, after doing the first 4 books back to back i've not been able to keep the pace with this one so far. dont really like the spilt of characters across feast & dance, would've been better maintaining the timeline in one monster volume imo

This fat bastard is going to probably die before he finishes the series

I cant see how he's going to finish this series in 2 more books, at the pace the story's moving i dont see how Dany will have even left the eastern kingdoms never mind trying to conquor the fecker and with Bran & Arya still kids and yet inevitably having a part to play theres too much to come.

Unless he just crashes a UFO into kings landing at some point and calls it a day

That's what he wanted though. He has a monster volume ready to go but the publishers said it was too big so they made him split it up instead. ADoD was ready at the same time AFoC was for feck sake, yet he decided to go and mess around with the thing for 5 years after that.

I agree with this to an extent. Just finished the book and while certain key plot elements were introduced ( Dany and Drogon, The wildlings, Stannis, Theon.) It does seem like far too much of the book was devoted to Jon and Dany. The former just manning the wall till the last chapter.:mad::mad::mad: and Dany just being horny most of the time and picking/not picking between suitors.

A bit disappointed with this one (Dances With Dragons). It could have probably been trimmed by two or three hundred pages without making much difference to the story.

It was good to see a bit more of Selmy and it was nice to see Varis pop up again.

I hope Jon Snow isn't dead. To have him go out cheaply like Rob would be horrible

Guys, I think it'd be fair to keep all ADWD stuff in spoilers please? Myself, and I'm sure many others, have not read the whole thing yet.

i.e. bill above.

But... this is the book spoiler thread. The book has been out for months. IMO people who don't want book spoilers should probably just not go into the book spoiler thread ;)

As for your spoiler Bill.. there's no way. And that disappoints me, because that was sort of the best thing about this series, that anything could happen. But this is too transparent, it's too obvious that it's not like it seems.

Perhaps. I have a theory about it.

Jon dies, therefore he has no affiliation to the Black Brothers. He then comes back to life via melisandre and can march on Winterfell without being an oathbreaker.
I've also read other theories about him being AA reborn. They also make sense so it could be interesting.

Yes, I've read about those too. I'm not sure how much I agree, but it's an interesting take. Either way what seemed to happened didn't happen, I'm pretty sure of that.

I'm sure we'll find out in a few years :(

If he really is, then :( :( :( I don't think he really is. Melisandre will probably be useful in his case.

If he is dead, then he's warg'ed into Ghost. So we'll just get Ghost POVs instead of Jon for a bit. Mel will give him the kiss though. He is Azor Ahai reborn

He could have left out the entire plotline in Mereen and the book would have been just as good.

Have to get Jon out of his oath somehow. How is he going to sit the Iron Throne otherwise?

You know nothing, Bill.

Jon Snow isn't dead. It's just a cliffhanger to keep us anxious for the next 5 years before the next book is out. I don't see how Martin can kill off Jon Snow without him learning that he is not Eddard Stark's bastard, but the love child of of Lyanna Stark and Rhaeghar Targaryen. Jon will either warg into Ghost, or Melisandre will manage to resurrect him the same way that Thoros was able to bring Beric Dondarrion back to life.

Half way through a Dance with Dragons and ...

very little has happened at all. The Theon storyline has been good and that's about it. Daenerys and Tyrion have done feck all and The Wall has been overly boring. Yet again he's introducing too many new characters and the whole thing is just overly fecking confusing now

I really can't comprehend how he'll finish this thing in 2 more books, especially before he dies. Sigh

Was gutted (no pun intended) when Jon was turned on, though my first thought when I heard Stannis had been killed was that Jon was AA reborn, and his longclaw sword was actually the proper 'lightbringer'. Then again, we dont really know if Jon is actually dead yet, we're assuming he is. Hope Ghost survived!

Have to say, I really enjoyed the 5th book but..

I wish he'd stop dicking around with that storyline with Arya. I want her to return home and kill people. Perhaps the Queen

Also..

Good twist with 'Reek' being the person he turned out to be

Cant wait for the next one, when hopefully..

those Bolton and Frey bastards get whats coming to them!

I agree with all of that!

Been all consumed by A Storm of Swords in the past week and even though I knew all about the Red Wedding, it was such a pain reading through it. Hoping the Boltons and the Freys all get what's coming to them

I was so annoyed when I read that. It felt like a cheap way for him to go out.

The RW was probably the biggest 'shock and awe' moment I have ever had reading any book. It really does come out of the blue and takes you a while to understand what's really happened.

Spoiler from A Storm of Swords -

Didn't think it was a cheap cop-out either, Rob ended up paying for his decisions. Damn those Freys. Wonder if HBO will go as far to show us Greywinds head on Rob's body :p
.

All right, in the show, Joffrey orders the murder of all Robert's bastards. In the books, Cersei orders it discreetly, which Tyrion doesn't find out til later. Cersei tried to hide the rumors from him as best as possible and Joffrey didn't see the letter that I can remember. It's a small detail, but it shows how worried Cersei is about their physical appearances becoming known leading to validation of the rumors.

There's also been no mention of Alaine Stone or Edric Storm, two of the more prominent bastards not named Gendry. Maybe I'm anal...

I think there should be a tv thread for those who have read the books. It's far to messy to mix the show discussion in here because it's not going to be the same as the books. No Blackfish and this bastard murders. Did Joffrey give the order in the show? I can't remember that he did. It's just assumed by the TV show viewers and I didn't want to say anything because it might be explained better later.

They're going to be fecked with the Blackfish if he becomes important later on in the show and he's not introduced. Besides, he's an interesting guy. If you're going to leave out someone, leave out Brienne.

Blackfish isn't overly important. he can easily be introduced or skimmed upon. Besides, I forgot who Blackfish was until I looked up that he was Brynden!

Leave out Brienne? Not sure if serious...

Anyone else think Craster wasn't scummy looking enough? and Davos seemed a bit too rugged and tough.

I was joking about Brienne. She's just so boring...

Craster should have been way creepier.

Looks like they're going to replace the Reed siblings with Osha. Not sure how I feel about that particularly as we don't know yet how important Howland Reed will be.

Really? BUUUUUUUUUULLLSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. So will Rickon stay with Bran?

No idea, this is just an assumption based on Osha's prominence on the tv show plus I don't remember hearing any casting news on the Reeds.

I don't think Joffery did give the order in the tv show, it never really gave an indication as to who ordered it, did it?

They'll have to skip over small details at times, as long as they judge the importance of the details correctly it isn't a problem.

I've read all the books and yet I can't for the life of me remember what happens this season, it's all blended into one.

I don't know how you've come to this conclusion, as far as I can remember, everything Osha has been involved in so far happened to/with her in the books.

I don't think the Reeds turn up until shortly before Winterfell falls.

I think it was the fact that Osha asks about Bran and his dreams and then he lies. I know the Reeds ask about this in the books and Bran lied to them so I just it just sort of hinted that Osha would take their role as they travel north.

You're right that the Reeds won't have turned up yet but like I said I'm not sure if they have been casted this season or not (I'm hoping this doesn't count as a spoiler!).

You prompted me to do a quick search, I found no casting of the Reeds so you may be correct.

If this is true, I wonder how it will alter things. Will Rickon head north too? Perhaps the three eyed crow will take over the dream explanations that Jojen offered in the books?

Potential theory/spoiler for next season

To be fair just because the Reeds haven't been cast for this season doesn't mean they won't for next year. I guess the writers may have thought their input while Bran was at Winterfell was worthless and decided they'll be new characters next year. Least I hope so.

Not sure if possible casting or non-casting of characters counts as spoilers but thought I would play it safe

Spoilers for what? This is the book spoiler thread. There are no spoilers. If anyone reads this thread and is upset that they were spoiled, then it's their own fault for reading the thread.
