Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

The ASOIAF forums are actually really good for debates like that. They've got so long to waste inbetween books that they've somehow managed to make even the most ludicrous theory seem possible (Hot Pie is Azor Ahai  ).

How on Earth they had that conclusion?:lol:

Except the Snow being Rhaegar and Lyanna son, I never read on ASOIAF forums. Anyway, thought that it was generally accepted that either Jon (very likely) or Stannis (less likely) is Azor Ahai.

Would prefer Hot Pie though. Or Lord Piggy.

 It was something about Hot Pie rhyming with Azor Ahai and hot being the link to Fire! Only a joke thread but it's funny to see what people can come up with if they're bored/nerdy enough. Here's a funny thread from there: Link

Good reading on there for when you're bored and can't sleep!

Stannis isn't. The sword doesn't give off heat when it's on fire. ;)

Why did the red bitch though that Stannis was all the way. Until in the end of fifth book she start thinking that she's wrong and Jon could be.

Prophecies!

Could AA be Daenerys? Does the gender matter?

Is AA the prince that was promised?

I need a book. Move your ass (hand) faster George!

Ay but there's no evidence of him even having seen Ned fight. Seems more of a pleasantry.

But Ned did manage to kill the Sword of the Morning(Arthur Dayne), Ser Oswell Whent, and Lord Commander Gerold Hightower(The White Bull) at the Tower of Joy. It might have been 7 on 3, but they were BAMFs.

Also, Stark and Selmy were both at the Battle of the Trident. That doesn't necessarily mean they fought one another, but they probably saw each other.

They didn't fight each other, but Ned said that I was lucky for that.

Although he killed Arthur Dayne the circumstances of it are still unclear. Ned said for Dayne:

"The finest knight I ever saw was Ser Arthur Dayne, who would have killed me but for Howland Reed." What does this mean, I am not sure.

Yeah, I always figured it was Danaerys or Jon Snow. The prophecy had something about being born in fire and sacrificing a loved one to forge lightbringer, so I figured it was Dany, with "lightbringer" being the dragons. Plus I think it says somewhere in the books that the "prince that was promised" could actually be a princess as the word was gender neutral. Or are those two unrelated prophesies?

Of course, they keep going on about the dragon having three heads so could AA actually be three people?

All I know for sure, it ain't Stannis. Even the old blind maester guy spotted that.

She could be. If she is, it means she'll have to kill something/someone she loves. The only thing that could be is Drogon.

The prince who was promised can be a female, in fact I think that Master Aemon was sure about it in the end of his life.

There is no evidence that the prophecies are related but they could be. It could also be that both prophecies are the same, but they could also talk about two persons.

My bet is that Danny, Jon Snow and possibly Aegon Targaryan will have the final word, be it as AA, the prince who was promised or something else. I also don't expect either Danny or Jon to survive the final battle, but this is still a wild bet.

She killed Khal Drogo in the past though. She sacrificed her son and later she was revived with those dragons.

Ah, but wasn't there another prophecy that called him a "mummer dragon"? I figured that meant he was a fake? Or is he called that because they faked his death?

Agree that Dany and Jon won't survive. There're way too many contenders for the throne atm, some of them need to go. I figure Dany and Jon will do some noble "save the kingdom from white walkers" stuff and die.

I think that this is their destiny, saving the kingdom/world from the others. I also think, that the game of thrones is secondary, the main plot of the novels is the inevitable war of the Others with the God of Light (it's disciples).

Don't remember mummer dragon prophecy, and from what you said it could go in either way. But personally I believe that he is really Rhaegar's son. The prophecy in the Undying house when Danny see her brother talking about the prince who was promised and the fact that he was grown up by a man who was one of the best friend's of Rhaegar. Varys wants him to be king, and Varys seems to be a mastermind, but also a person who has in best interest the kingdom.

If I had to bet, I would bet that Danny and Snow will die in the final battle. Jon will become king and will marry Sansa (finishing the war when it began, Rhaegar kidnapping Lyanna).

I'd prefer it if you lot stopped discussing what happens in the TV show Game of Thrones in this thread. I'd rather not happen upon central spoilers just from reading this thread. Perhaps a "discussion of Game of Thrones (TV Show) for those who've read the ASOIF books" thread or something.

Yeah, think Sansa will end up the queen too. Not a notion what will happen to Arya or Rickon. Bran will probably be a tree at that stage.

She always wanted that. I hate her.

Bran will become an omniscient narrator.

I can't see Jon marrying his "sister."

Targaryans rule.

Read a theory about Aegon being Illyrio's son. Varys's sister could have been Illyrio's wife. It is very interesting and could explain a lot of things if really Aegon is false. But Jon Connington seemed to have love Rhaegor so probably he won't betray him. Mindfeck.

Jon is a Stark though. He wasn't raised as a Targaryen and wouldn't want to nail his sister.

Make one then, though I doubt you'll get many contributors seeing as I don't know a single person who's read the books who isn't also massively into the TV show.

Mate, it looks like I have made a mistake. Aegon will marry Sansa IMO, not Jon. Jon could have some love scenes with Daeneris though, his aunt.

The one character they've done a really shit job with in the show is Jon, he's so lifeless, all he does is stare aimlessly with a dumb facial expression on him, I also think they've done a crappy job with the North of the wall story at times, introducing the white walkers at the end of S2 purely to end on a cliffhanger even though we'll barely see them for the next three seasons. Plenty of non-book readers that I know think Jon Snow is a dumbass too because he converted so easily to Mance's side, as in, they didn't grasp the fact that he's actually a "spy" for the Nights Watch there.

It's all been rather disappointing.

They are retarded then. It was clear from the conversations he had with the old ranger (Qhorin?) that he will be a 'spy' for the Night swatch.

Before this season I was really looking forward to seeing the Red Wedding and the reaction of all non-book readers.

However every scene I watch now that involves Tywin, Bolton and Robb Stark makes me think of the impending doom and how stunned I was when I read the Red wedding. Now I'm really not looking forward to it. Has to happen and it is the highlight pretty much and will be till we see Dinklage shoot an arrow into Charles Dance whilst he's on the bog, but can't say I'm keen on it anymore.

it really wasn't that clear, at the time a lot of people thought it was really badly handled. There was a small conversation between them but Jon never actually agreed to anything and looked baffled when Qhorin attacked him.

I hadn't read the books at the time and I thought it was pretty clear. If anything I thought it was a bit silly of the wildlings to trust him so easily (I know they don't fully trust him). I agree with the rest of what you said about Jon Show though, Cina. But he has some cool stuff to do in the rest of this season.

I'm surprised at how many in the other thread are disappointed with this season, thinking it's slow etc. I can't say I''ve noticed a difference in pace with previous seasons but I guess it's harder knowing where everything is going, so you just enjoy the ride more. I expect the show's popularity to seriously decline by the time we get to season 5.

The more characters they introduce, the more confusing it will get for non readers and they might call it a day. Especially as Dany is going to spend a long time dicking about and there will be hardly any white walker action.

A lot were disappointed early on in season two, it was only towards the end they started to get all giddy again, I'm sure it'll be the same here.

The last three episodes have each broken its ratings records. The last one viewed by 5.3 million people for the first showing on HBO.

Is the Red Wedding going to be this season? I really can't wait to see it, one of my fave parts of the books  Never been so happy to see "good guys" die ever. I've always thought Catelyn was an annoying high horsey bitch and I felt like I never really got to know Robb in the books and didn't care much for him. The reactions should be glorious though

Don't see how it couldn't be this season tbf.....quite probably the 9th episode. HBO love their "big" episodes being the penultimate ones , as the finale will bring in big numbers just on the basis of being the finale.

Can't wait, naturally. Though the scene I wanted to see them do the most this year was the bath scene, and they beyond nailed it, or by "they", I generally just mean Waldau, the star of the season.

It most certainly is. It's been confirmed by D&D many times in interviews and such without saying as much. Ep 9 is titled, 'The Rains of Castamere'.

They're taking a week off before the episode too. People are going to really lose their shit when they've waited two weeks for the episode only to be rewarded with the Red Wedding.

They also had someone singing Rains earlier this season just to make sure people didn't forget it since Blackwater. I wouldn't be surprised to hear it at least one more time just to hammer the clue in for the more astute non-book readers.

I can remember reading the book and almost didn't believe what I was reading.

Considering that stuff like this is almost never done on TV, where the "good guys" get murdered in such a gruesome way, I already see the outcry on the internet forums from those who have no clue what is coming for them.

Another thing is that Robb plays a much larger role in the TV series and I feel the impact will be the bigger for it, atm almost every viewer is on the side of Robb and his people, god come to think of it I really can't wait for that episode, the outcry will be epic.

Yeah I can't wait for it either. I just hope they don't make it obvious.

Robb sucks. Can't wait to see him die. Gonna be heartbreaking when Joffrey goes though, he's the most epic bad character in the history of TV. Plus he's like the only person who is legitimately bad in the thing, everyone else(except maybe Jon Snow) are very grey.

I think Robb is great in the TV show, far better and less lifeless and dull than Jon is. In the books Robb was always in the background (which GRRM says is his biggest regret, and he should have made Robb a PoV character) but he's one of the fan favourites in the TV show which is why what happens will be so hilarious, especially if they do the head on direwolf thing.
