Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I wondered the same but what would be the actual point? They can just have Tormund do anything Mance was going to do without complicating things with illusions and magic.

Well they've already had her produce the demon snatch baby assassin but that was a while ago. Thought it might have cemented/reminded viewers that her magic is some serious business. You're right though, it would complicate things a little.

Really? It just seems a bit odd to me. Not liking it. I think I saw a interview with some of the cast members and the actor playing Jon said a lot of the budget went on the dragons.

I think it could be quite good. New direction and two characters I find genuinely interesting in Sansa and Ramsey. What doesn't sit right with you?

I hope the dragons are around more. They're clearly going to be huge in the events to come and I don't think it would quite make sense to keep them as hidden away as they are in the books. Build them up, let's see what they can actually do (even book readers don't really know just how badass they could be)

The execution just seems a little sloppy. The development of Sansa has been terrible for the first 3 seasons, then all of a sudden she's dyed her hair black and is now a massive player who is potentially going to able to control Ramsay? It doesn't seem like much of a Baelish move either, he has very little know-how of the Boltons in comparison to others he easily manipulates. Who knows, it could be great. It seems like Theon's redemption arc starts here too, so I'm pleased for that.

Completely agree regarding the dragons. I felt they ignored the dire wolves a bit as well. We only saw them once or twice a season.

I'm not sure if she'll actually control him, more just take the place of Jeyne. Perhaps there'll be an end goal of killing him with Theon or something, but not without her getting some of his 'treatment'. It's also easy to forget what she's been through to create this change in her, Joffrey messed up up quite a bit. But really it's too hard to call, it's so different from the books now. But personally, I think Ramsey'll just be horrid to her.

Btw, Natalie Dormer is a fantastic actress. She should get more credit for the job she is doing, probably the best female actress in the show (Headley was excellent on the first two-three seasons but now is boring).

I don't even remember who Arianne is or what she does.
You simpleton.

Are we sure that the Aegon and Ironborn storylines are dropped altogether or just moved to the next season? It just wouldn't make sense not to include them, being the source of everything interesting in the last two books. The Dorne storyline has potential and got interesting towards the end but not that special all in all.
I don't really care about the other changes. I don't even remember what happens in the North or anything to do with Daenerys. It was all rather boring. Arya storyline has been mostly just really weird and rather pointless (so far).

The quotes about how much they'll be veering away from the books makes that a moot point, I'd wager that the boring shite in the books generally doesn't happen and is replaced with more tv-friendly excitement with established characters.

The only thing I found interesting about Dorne was Doran and the 'grand plan' theory. He's a very interesting, calculated character. I didn't really care for the Sand Snakes much.

I'm disappointed with the election. It was rather dull and anti-climatic. No trace of the excitement of the book.
Jaime and Bronn going on a mission to Dorne - the typical TV plot I expected them to fill this season with. No complaints though, it'd probably be more entertaining than the book equivalent.

I liked Kevan's (re?)introduction. Hopefully him leaving doesn't mean we won't see him for half the season.

The last episode felt like a highlight reel. I thought the point of skipping nearly every plot and butchering every known character was to concentrate on the bigwigs. They don't build up anything anymore. They took about 5 seconds to make Jon as the LC. Apparently all it takes to become the LC is a speech by Samwell Tarly...the guy who's a running joke. It took even less time for Jon to decline the offer from Stannis. Then they waste 5 minutes with Varys and Tyrion talking about fecking boxes. As if the beetles wasn't bad enough. And if Tommen is old enough to feck (that scene was creepy) why is Cersie a regent for him?

The guy who played Doran was good. And nice to Jaqen back although I don't understand why Arya wasn't let inside the first time round. That was bizarre.

Is this a book thread or the serial thread? You are talking about the serials I suppose? It's so difficult to keep up, and I've been banned from the other thread.

Myrcella's aged about 6 years in a season then, I see.

Didn't get the point of Jaqen turning back Arya at all. Literally all she did between being refused and being accepted was sit around for a bit and kill a pigeon.

I know the Jaime + Bronn pair up will probably just be filler for this season but it might be entertaining filler all the same. Guy playing Doran seems about right too.

I think every scene that has ever happened in the show has been described as 'not advancing the plot in any meaningful way' in the tv thread.

Pretty much. Though their complaints about Dany's plotline do sound very familiar. Guess the TV show is keeping to the spirit of the books there....

This episode wasn't that great, right?

Arya killing a pigeon, Snow becoming Lord Commander. Don't think that it was done that good, unfortunately. I thought that it was one of the highlights of the books.

Can anyone tell me what is the point of keeping Brianne on the show? Why don't she just get an arrow to the knee and feck off. Such a boring and pointless character.

Daenerys is the most self righteous cnut of all time. And what is this shit 'mercy to my enemies, ruthlessness to my friends'? Robb Stark was pretty good at it too.

Is there any rumour as to when the next book will be released?

Surely it's this year?

I really fear George R. R. Martin is going to go the way of Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series.

They're still just setting things up for the coming season really. Reintroducing characters and reminding people whats going on with them.
Tbh thought the last season was really poor outside of some good action scenes and i expect less from this season (as theres no obvious action scenes to fall back on).

Still think the first season was the best by a distance and the more they dick around with the books and rush through or cut out storylines the less interest i have in it.
I'd probably give up on it if it didn't look shiny and impressive at times.

I was expecting the next book in 2016 at best so the above link is actually great news. Still think he'll probably miss out on getting it out before the next season ... just because.

Tbf, if this season isn't the worst so far then they'll have improved on the quality of material they were given to work with.

It was mostly rubbish really.

They completely fecked up the Lord Commander election.

Brienne has now actually talked to both Arya and Sansa, no idea what's up with that and what's the point of Brienne by now.

Daenerys is getting to be just as annoying and boring as in the books, although in the books she at least has the excuse of being only a kid, in season 5 of the show she's supposed to be 20!

Severely disappointed in the election scene. It was one of the best moments in the books and they made it so underwhelming in the show. Ugh.

And yeah, they basically covered Dany's storyline in that episode.

To be fair, her storyline along with Arya's are the only one's that make a modicum of sense in the show. The rest is plain gibberish.

EDIT - do they even remember Balon is still alive?

My only hope now is Dorne. Everything else seems just as dull if not duller than the books.

"Looking forward to Jamie's expedition to Dorne with that other guy (Brock?). Was hoping he'd take the Mountain along with him."

From the show thread. I'm sorry but
