A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

He has said he is happy at Spurs and under contract. He will not want to burn bridges with the biggest clubs in the world, why would he.

He has not in any way shape or form ruled himself out of the United job. Yet. If he had we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Determination .

Keep dreaming and feel free to believe whatever you want. If he want to join us, we are getting him mate. There is nothing Levy is going to do and we just don't need to fuking care what your chairman thinks.

Is your preinduced hardon from getting one over on us, or actually getting Pochettino?

He didn’t rule himself out of the Real job either. I could quote several quotes from Poch with in a few months of where his future is, but it would just be portrayed as him *telling us what we want to hear*.

Ok, let me get this right, for 3 days now there have been reports of *Poch desperate to be considered for United post* but yet no one in Tottenham has asked him anything anything about it? Come on are you being serious? Everyone in football is talking about it apart from the actual people concerned? By the way we aren’t just talking about Poch here, it’s the 3 or 4 backroom staff he takes with him.
That isn't what I said though. What is said in the media probably doesn't have much bearing on everyday affairs at a football club. He might've had conversations with a couple of figures at the club but I very much doubt that filters down to the players. And even then, like I said, he would be daft to declare his interest in joining another club at such an early stage in proceedings.

I don’t know about that, big name players like Alli and Kane have signed I’d say in some way on the back of Poch being the manager. I mean he did sign a big contract last summer. Poch puts a lot of weight in loyalty surely his players willl fell the same.

I’m not saying he isn’t interested, show me where I have said that? He has said, he is under contract and he is happy. I have said again and again this is my opinion, if as you think he wants the move why doesn’t he simply say he wants to leave? What is it with United fans and the word damning, for me personally he has not said anything that says he wants to leave.

When or if he does il change my opinion and would prefer Levy neogiates a deal to let him go.

Yes, all very well, but each day this goes on brings more uncertainty to Spurs & your managers position. So you are totally happy for this to drag on until the summer, which it will, until the media are sure that Pochettino is not interested in the Man Utd job.

I don’t give a shit what the media thinks to be honest, it’s the media that has basically ruined United since Fergie left. They have been a part player in the sacking of every manager you have had, yet most on here lap up all the shit they serve up.

In my opinion Poch will stay with us until he says he wants a move, if he does I hope we get rid and get all we can in the process. Again for the 100th time I don’t think he will leave.

I hope he stays with you too. I'm in the minority but I don't think he is for us.

Poch has stated that he will not address manager-vacancy rumors to the press. Otherwise, he will have to do it every time Real, PSG, Bayern, United, Juve, Man City or even Chelsea fires a manager. I am totally happy for Poch to maintain this stance while dragging United along until next summer and keep wasting United's time. The dream scenario is he says nothing while United keeps waiting until late July or late August when it becomes clear that he is not interested.

Who said, we dont need to pay? All I said , is if he wants to join us, he will join us. There is nothing Levy is going to do.
He can say; "Poch has a contract. Pay 40 mil". We will say on that; " No, thanks. 40 mil on manager after we gave 30 to Jose? We will hire Zidane/Conte/ Solskjaer instead. They are free".

I really don't know mate. Can't be bothered thinking about it, just want to enjoy some football again really.

I think you will get it, OGS I think he let the players play, I will say I think Phelan will be more the brains behind it but I can see you now going in a 4-5 game run.

Is your preinduced hardon from getting one over on us, or actually getting Pochettino?
 Naa mate. It happens only when you hear arguments that challenges your common sense .

Personally I don't care if he join us or not. Yes, I like him but with a right DOF any half decent attacking manager will get us to full potential. We are way underperforming now.

If Poch want to join us, do you really think we will have a stand off on compensation to spurs? That will be the last thing running in Ed's mind now.

You can clearly see his unhappiness in this picture. He clearly wants out.

Yep, 7 fat guys sharing a Christmas toast (and a large number of Turkey's by the looks it) clearly puts to bed any rumours that Poch might be leaving the club in 6 months.

It was fun while it lasted.

I would love to see Pochettino here, but he is clearly happy at Tottenham too, no doubt i see us going all out of for him, but it will definitely be the situation were Poch will have to ask for it himself, as Levy will have no intention otherwise. Will he do it? I don't know, he's obviously building something great with them and he seems like an actual likeable guy. One things for sure, until he gives it a category NO this will continue to be spoken about until the summer, and even if he does the media probably won't let up, it's just how it is i'm afraid, we had the same with Ronaldo and such.

Why on earth would anyone at Man United concerns themselves with getting one over Spurs? You're not Liverpool or City or even Chelsea or Arsenal for that matter. There is no traditional or local rivalry and it's not as if you're a club that creates contempt by being a dominant force. You're Spurs, I personally wish your feisty old go-getter club the best of luck in the future.

feck a clear come and get me plea, I’m shitting it now. Levy is tiny, he defo has classic small man complex.

Breaking news: When switching clubs managers like to hire staff members from their prior club to work with at their new club. Brave new idea that has only been around for decades. I'm sure when he was at Southampton Poch hit his staff with restraining orders the Christmas before he joined Spurs.

Thank you for being sensible. I do not know whether he will stay or he will go. He is an adult that can decide his own future. I hope that he stays and I feel that he will not break his contract for another club in England. I think that he has too much respect for Spurs fans, Levy (just read his book), and the players to break our hearts like that.

I think for me, the 'empty pockets' gesture in his press interview the other day, the talk about Fergie being a huge inspiration to him as a manager and it being a 'dream come true' to meet him - then the Spuds media goon shutting down Utd questions before Pochettino could answer in the next press conference are the biggest pointers from Pochettino's side yet that he wants this.

And why wouldn't he? It's an amazing opportunity for him to step up to a truly huge club, yet stay within the league that he's familiar with.

I just hope that if it happens, Spurs fans in general are able to accept it a classy manner, and maybe start to accept that the whole 'project' spin is a bit daft really.

Well It's a tough situation, if it were any other manager i might say we'd definitely get him, but he seems like a genuine guy. My only thing to say is, if he feels like he can't take you any further or isn't given any funds for spending he might take the job, otherwise I'm not sure he would, he's still young and it's likely that he could still go to, say, Real Madrid, in the future if he continues doing well. Personally after what the board did with Mounrinho and transfers in the summer we should of got rid, we missed a trick not getting Thomas Tuchel ahead of PSG in my opinion, he was free, because whichever way you look at it, this is going to be a massive hassle for us. I don't envy your lot simply because until the Summer passes and, say, he stays with you lot, you're always going to having that niggling feeling in the back of your head that whilst Pochettino may be loyal, a nice guy, and so on and so forth, that he might, might, still want to take the United job, and it's going to get so annoying for you lot i'm sure for the next 6 odd months.

All joking aside if Spurs give Poch the financial backing he feels he needs to finish what he started there I don't see him going anywhere. If they don't, which was the case this summer, he may feel like he's taken them as far as he can. If I managed a club and had it running with the rich clubs while spending a fraction of what those clubs do I'd be incredibly frustrated if that fraction was then also taken away from me.

Yeah, but they have this chap @GlastonSpur , so that’s pretty much enough for most posters on here.

30-40 mil for manager? Hm..i think that Ed will not pay that. Especially when we have free options available.

We don't need him and he can barely talk English !!

I'm not convinced he's a great as they say, he was at Southampton when they had great players, hence why the bigger clubs bought them all.

He's dropped into Spurs but what has he actually done, they say he's a great manager who likes to promote youth but that is forced upon him because the owners are building a new stadium and wont release funds.

Maybe a lot of clubs would benefit from keeping and developing their squad instead of constantly spending with the grass is greener on the other side attitude.

Look at the class of 92

Let Poch stay where he is - we dont need him - we got Ole

Keeping his options open when he was approached by Madrid was a clear massage that it's up to him to decide not Leavy. after finishing his duties in the on-going season their's a lot of time to think. He couldn't have dreamt a better scenario where United & Real targeting him at the same time.

To be in Poch's shoes: the only way is up. ambitions will move him to either one of the biggest clubs in the world. would he wave it and stick with his plans at a club whom themselves wannabe someday a big club.

United have a lead on Madrid being a part of the league where he experienced, flourished and established him self as a top manager. Spurs hasn't even yet made a great step and it will take them strides to make a giant leap just to be recognized within the likes of United.

Personally, I think Poch will be ours come the end of the season.

I agree. I’m still not convinced he is the right man but I don’t disagree with you. I think he will be our number 1 target

Great points and well said. Totally agree.

It only takes a few seconds to issue a reassuring statement to the public. Something like this would suffice:

"I have absolutely no interest in the United job. I am happy at Spurs and I have no desire to leave. Now let me eat my paella in peace."

End of debate.

That he refuses to commit one way or the other is a clear indicator that he wishes to keep his options open. Which is by far the wisest move for him personally.

That stuff never happens though. What you seem to forget is, Poch hasn't even been contacted by United yet. He's not even been approached. You seem to lap up all the media nonsense yet you aren't thinking it through. Why would Poch comment on a story which hasn't actually happened? Think about it, Poch is minding his own business managing Spurs, United sack Mourinho, the newspaper go mental about Poch being United's number 1 target, and people like you, and the media, expect him to start putting statements out about him not being interested in a non existent (as it stands) opportunity? If Poch is approached in the coming months, it will be done through appropriate channels but Poch isn't going to provide a running commentary on his job situation. It's ridiculous. The media have created this storm and then expect Poch to comment on it.

The Press Officer was absolutely within rights to shut the questions about Poch and United down. Poch already commentated on it two days ago, yet SSN are there again going "Les Reed said this, what do you think about that Poch?" I mean ffs, do people really expect a running commentary? Poch has already said I have a long contract here I am happy. That is it. End of story.

Keep dreaming buddy.

He'd be an excellent choice. Although the no trophies is a bit of a concern.

People act like winning the FA cup is easy. It is not.

I’m interested, where did he say Fergie was his biggest inspiration? Genuinely I didn’t catch that. There is one guy who inspired Poch and I can probably bet you can’t name him without goggling.

And yeah I’m sure most Spurs fans IF it came to it would be certainly more classy than you appear to be.
