A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

I haven't, no. He probably did when he was younger but I know for certain he's very much a fan of Shaw, and I don't doubt if he comes to United he'll be his number one left back.

Read the book, I’m pretty sure Poch knows for certain more than you do. I’m not saying he doesn’t rate him but he has questioned his work rate. He wrote the book not me, it was only published last year, I honestly think any United fan who wants to know about Poch should read it.

Ah ok, he signed a new contract last year, wait contracts mean nothing isn’t that right? Wait surely he would have a clause in his contract right? Nope he doesn’t.

I don't think anyone is suggesting it's possible for Spurs to block it are they? Or are they?

The fact he hasn't ruled it out shows he's considering it, I'd be worried if I was a Spurs fan.

When was the book released? I can't say how I know and I don't expect you to just take my word for it, but also do take my word for it; he's a fan of Shaw both as a footballer and a person.

Of course he would consider it, why wouldn’t he? Doesn’t mean he will take it, from everything Poch has said in the last year leads me to believe he will stay, if he does wanna go il be dissappointed of course but we move on, club before anything in my book.

In September past.

The quote,

‘I felt his head was not in the right place [at Southampton] to make the sacrifices and decisions that are necessary at that age,’

In September past.
Yeah I definitely know something post that then.
Anyway though, I think United fans shouldn't worry about which new shiny toy manager we'll get in the summer. I'm just looking forward to six months of Ole!:D

yeah maybe I'm just a pessimist but we're a shambles and Spurs are in good shape with a new stadium on the way. When I first heard we were interested I half expected him to rule it out straight away. Him side-stepping the questions has given me hope.

Perhaps he's a bit frustrated with the budget he has?

I can't believe that anybody can question his desire to come in United.
1. Personal CV. United is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I have huge respect to Spurs but they are far from United in everything( except points:lol:). To be a manager of clubs like United, Barca, Real is honour for every manager. It is something what is your goal when you start in that business.
2. With United he can win titles. With Spurs he can't. He can be in top 4 but to compete with City, Chelsea, Liverpool and United he must spend money. And in Spurs he can't do that. He can't spend 100mil on one world class player.
3. We can give him (much) bigger salary.

Of course, i am presuming that he is like everybody else in sports. That he wants glory, money and success. If he is different type of person who is happy to work in calm environment without too much stress then ok, my mistake.

He answered the Real stories the same way, he’s not burning any bridges as I don’t for a second believe he is with us for life. As for the budget and spending, he has had funds all but last summer, I think people forget that, but yes I am sure he would like to get a player or two more in.

I’m not one of the fans who are saying he is staying definitely, I’m just saying from all the information available to me, in my opinion he isn’t at the stage where he wants to leave.

It's here lads, apologies if already posted - Merson appears under the influence of some kind of pretty decent stimulant that kicks in as the vid goes on...

Interesting debate. Around 17.00 Sherwood explains that if Mitchell comes in - Spuds fans should basically start accepting that we're getting Pochettino.

Really enjoyed that to be honest Thought Merson was bang on. The players have been a disgrace really with the exception of a few.

I get what you're saying but having the press officer control the conference and shut down any talk of United is pretty damning.

The thing is, Spurs currently have a better group of players and are moving into a new stadium. Exciting times to be a Spurs fan. If he is going to leave he will need to push that himself and I cannot see him doing that to be honest.

I get what you're saying but having the press officer control the conference and shut down any talk of United is pretty damning.

Why? Because he wants the conference to be about the game rather than endless questions about United, when it has nothing to do with the game? Please tell me how is that damning? Because I honestly don’t know why it is. Even Poch joked with the press officer. If Poch wants to talk to the press he can do that anytime he wants. We’re a professional football club not a circus for the tabloid media to wank over.

Probably the Spurs press controllers are a bit better than ours. I mean I dont usually watch any of the Spurs ones' but asking the press to ask questions about a game seems pretty normal to me.

I thought so too, the same thing happened before with regards to Madrid. It’s what the press officer is for, enforcing appproproate questions are asked. Like I said before I’m sure hacks are contacting Poch as we speak for an exclusive *I want United move*. If he wants to do it it’s very easy for him to do so, it’s not like he gets locked in Levy’s wine cellar at night.

He doesn’t have an agent. I’m pretty sure Levy knows also, I mean do you not think the bald one would ask him?

Will then even less people will know. Unless Poch is dumb, he won't lay down his cards out on the table. Poch is in a very good position right now. Committing to one or the other would leave him worse off.

Because its not Poch who shut them down. The press officer stepped in, suggesting there wasn't much faith in the clubs side on Poch to do the same. He side stepped it just fine when asked about Real but here today, one question about United and he wasn't given a chance to say a single word. I find that quite damning.

Your assuming that Poch and Levy don’t have a good working relationship, when everything else points to something different. How do you really see business going?

Levy: Are you interested in United?

Poch: Mmmmmm I don’t raally know come back to me Danny, il let you know sooner or later...

Seriously do you think business works like that? Levy will know if it’s yes or no. If he didn’t Poch would be a bit of a cnut would he not?

Can someone explain to me what is it about Pochettino that makes him a desirable manager.

You can argue he is the right age - not too young and not too old. Already has some experience with not bad win rate. And for me it ends there.

He has not won anything ever.
Never had high profile job and players to deal with.
I could argue that he has some good transfers but probably just as much flops.
Player development skills are ok but it's Tottenham, they have the luxury to be 3-6 in the league. United fans will be furious with 2 years in a row of finishing 5th and would be threads about sacking him.

Is there something that I am missing? I would love if he comes and proves me wrong, but I can't see it working out unless we want to be the new Arsenal (At this point if we play watchable football I might even take it but in the long run I'd like to see United challenge for titles again).

Ummmm the press officer stepped in after multiple questions of the same elk, which Poch has answered the same way. Do you think that Levy has some how gagged Poch. If Poch wanted to say something he would say it. The press officer did exactly the same thing in the summer with regards to Real Madrid, that’s what they are their for.

So how many questions about Man Utd in that single presser did it take for the press officer to step in? I'm guessing you've seen the press conference so maybe you can educate me.

I think it was 2-3, why? I don’t see why you simple don’t google it, I don’t wanna be your teacher. Of course I seen it it was after the game. Also if your Pogba’s biggest fan, it will be interesting to se what Poch makes of him .

Plenty of people have good working relationships, that doesn't mean that people don't look after their self interests. It would be naive to think otherwise, but hey, you're welcome to it.

Levy: Are you interested in United.

Poch: I'm interested in finishing this season then evaluating my options.

That's professional and non committal that would leave Levy wondering and likewise Woodward.

I'd expect sound bites to both camps that he's happy and that he would consider taking a job but making a definite descison would be incredibly stupid, if he does; he needs an agent.

When did I mention mid-season? As I mentioned earlier, you are free to believe whatever you want. You can mark my words and come back to me when I am wrong . If Poch wants to join us, he will join us. There is nothing Spurs or Levy can do about it. And if it happens, the buy out wouldn't be 48m as they say. Will be much closer to 20 m- 25m than 45 - 50.

The point is that that what you've claimed is not true: a manager cannot end a contract just by saying they want to leave and will take no severance pay.

Yes, if Poch wanted to leave and join United then he could ... assuming the job was still vacant by the time Levy had finished playing hardball by placing Poch on leave for a year or two and appointing another manager for the first team in the meantime.

This latter option is open to Levy precisely because of the managerial contract, so again your claim that there would be nothing that Spurs or Levy can do about it is just not true. This optional action by Spurs would be immensely damaging to Pochettino, not least because there might not even a job vacancy that he wants to take by the time Levy relented.

I wouldn't at all rule out such an action by Levy, if it became necessary (which it won't), for three reasons:

1) It would show the world that, at Spurs, you cannot just sign a 5 year contract and then expect to just renege on it shortly afterwards.

2) It would force United into appointing a permanent manager other than Pochettino in the summer. Don't under-estimate Levy's determination, following the Berbatov saga all those years ago, to never again do any deal with United that he doesn't want to do: United seriously damaged any relationship they had with Spurs at that time.

3) He'd have little to lose, other than paying Pochettino's salary for a year two, because he'd have lost him as manager anyway.

But these apocalyptic possibilities won't arise in the first place because Pochettino is happy at Spurs, seems to be an honourable man who wouldn't seek to renege on his contract and probably doesn't see United as an especially attractive option compared to the alternatives whenever he might want to move on down the road aways.

This is why you don’t understand Poch, tell me what does Poch, at least say, he values above anything? He will never have an agent, it’s simply not his style. Look at Belisa, that’s is Poch’s biggest influence.

Why would he tell Levy if he wanted to leave?

Cause Levy employs him.... if he wanted to leave having levy on his side would surely make his transition smoother? Is that a serious question. Something like,

Poch: I wanna leave at the end if he season, I will work my hardest for the next six months.

Is surely better than being coy and saying nothing, what exactly would trolling Levy do for him.

Well we will see soon then won't we. If he's has the train of thought that you seem to think he has, then he'll commit to Spurs. If he does fair enough.

I'm seeing how Ole does first. I'm not expecting but I have a glimmer of hope and if he does well enough then you can keep Poch. Haha

All of this is at such a premature stage it's little more than speculation. There certainly wouldn't be any concrete offer on the table yet so why would he risk his relationship with his boss by telling him he wants to leave mid-season? He'll be keeping his cards close to his chest if the United job interests him.

Look I’m not here being shitty, if Poch comes out and says he wants the move. Then it’s up to Levy and I think he will go. You ask him to commit, he did less than a year ago, maybe having a fighting cock on his bellend would have served better.

Exactly so. Anyone can see from the video that Pochettino was relaxed, smiling, entirely comfortable. And it's pretty obvious that the decision not to entertain questions about United would have been agreed by him before the press conference began.

In any case he has said several times before - in regard to the RM questions last summer for example - that he doesn't feel the need to respond to rumours because he and Levy have a close working relationship and trust each other.

I still don’t see how you think business works, do you really think Poch, his staff, the players etc haven’t asked him. And if so do you think he just smirked and said *thats for me to know and you to find out* really?

In reality I don't think much of that would be going on at all. But if it did, I expect he would say all the right things because there is no reason for him to jeopardise what he's got at Spurs unless something else actually materialises.

Ok, let me get this right, for 3 days now there have been reports of *Poch desperate to be considered for United post* but yet no one in Tottenham has asked him anything anything about it? Come on are you being serious? Everyone in football is talking about it apart from the actual people concerned? By the way we aren’t just talking about Poch here, it’s the 3 or 4 backroom staff he takes with him.

The fact he hasn't denied any interest is damning. You & others can say what you like but until Pochettino publicly states he is not interested in the Man Utd managerial role then he will keep getting asked the same questions over & over for the next few months. If you are so sure he is staying then that is all he has to say. Why hasn't he done so.

I’m not saying he isn’t interested, show me where I have said that? He has said, he is under contract and he is happy. I have said again and again this is my opinion, if as you think he wants the move why doesn’t he simply say he wants to leave? What is it with United fans and the word damning, for me personally he has not said anything that says he wants to leave.

When or if he does il change my opinion and would prefer Levy neogiates a deal to let him go.

What? Contract is contract. The same way how managers are protected when club is sacking them, the same way are clubs protected. Coach can't say; " sorry, i am going now". Poch has contract. So he can resign. But Levy can refuse that.
If we want Poch, we must pay fee to Spurs.
Who said, we dont need to pay? All I said , is if he wants to join us, he will join us. There is nothing Levy is going to do.

It only takes a few seconds to issue a reassuring statement to the public. Something like this would suffice:

"I have absolutely no interest in the United job. I am happy at Spurs and I have no desire to leave. Now let me eat my paella in peace."

End of debate.

That he refuses to commit one way or the other is a clear indicator that he wishes to keep his options open. Which is by far the wisest move for him personally.

Determination .

Keep dreaming and feel free to believe whatever you want. If he want to join us, we are getting him mate. There is nothing Levy is going to do and we just don't need to fuking care what your chairman thinks.
