A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

It's just not the time to be weeping about other managers when we're doing good and actually fun to watch for the first time in a very long time. If you can't find joy in current Utd, just find another passion.

Maybe some people can finally move on. It wasn't healthy, they just couldn't let go while he was available. Dry your eyes.

3rd in the league. 5 pts off top with a game in hand. Won like a gazillion away games on the bounce.

It's another false down.

For me, there is enough evidence that Ole's not good enough : he has no plan B, his subs and in game management are almost always questionnable, in addition to being tactically inept.

Yes he improved the squad, yes he built a good culture but we should have upgraded and Poch would have been ideal.

Still absolutely baffled at anyone who looks at Poch’s work as Spurs and doesn’t rate it. Genuinely can’t get my head around it.

It will be a tough job controlling the likes of Neymar, but I really hope he does well. He seems very likable in interviews.

No one would have won trophies at Spurs and he did an exceptional job there, lifting the clubs image in the PL and throughout Europe.

:D I love it

Plus his net spent was around 0

Looking at the squad he inherited and that he left , he deserves a lot of praise for that.

Look at the squad Ole inherited compared to the one we have now. Are you going to give him any credit for that without trophies to back it up? Thought not.

Poch did well at Spurs quite clearly and obviously, it's undeniable, even with his failure to win any trophies. But he's a dull bloke from what we see and I find him truly underwhelming, as a personality and his football in general, I don't enjoy it. I just can't warm to him at all.

Fascinated to see how he does at a big club, and I am relieved we're not going to be the ones he tests his abilities on first.

Exactly. There is no context around his time there. People seem to completely disregard where they were as a club when he arrived and what he did with severely limited resources.

It was a fantastic job.

Not sure if this will be a right choice for him. But atleast he can win some trophies and get that baggage out of his head.

They were a top 6 club when he came. They were a top 4 club when he left. It was an impressive job no doubt, but let's not get carried away.

Neymar and Mbappe both have contracts that expire in the summer of 2022. Wonder what will happen with the two of them.

Ole has done a fantastic job too building the squad, but his resources and the money in terms of wages/transfer fees available to him are in a completely different universe to what Pochettino had at Spurs.

Manchester United are a giant of the game going through a rough spell, Spurs are not.

It’s the same people critiquing Leeds for losing 6-2 at OT, after a 5-2 win, being the most entertaining side in the league being 7 points off the drop zone. They are Leeds United and have just returned to the PL after an extended exile.

Why is there no context anymore? It’s bizarre.

Interesting times now...We are going to hear of Poch everytime PSG win a game and Man UTD lose/draw a game.

The comparison will never end until one of them grab the CL or EPL trophy.

No plan B, yet we played differently between City, Sheffield, Leeds and Everton. And sometimes even rotating 9 players. 9!!! And you say no plan B.

Some of you are really ignoring the facts and focusing on alternate realities or something. This is the moment to be behind the manager and the plan he set by building this squad. It’s visible and it should be noted.

Not saying I'm convinced Ole will lead us to greatness or anything like that, but I'm also not convinced Poch could do that either. Better the devil you know at this point.

That's how big clubs move I guess. We could have had twice, Woodward bottled it.
Regardless of whether you are Ole in or out, it would be absolutely ridiculous to sack Ole right now. Especially when we are currently the closest to 1st position at Christmas than we’ve ever been since Fergie left.

Let’s say Utd board decide to sack Ole now and bring in poch. It’s just asking for trouble. Poch would have to win virtually every game otherwise it’s just going to be further criticism of how the team is now regressing.

Timing is critical in every aspect. At the end of the season is the best time to assess where we are. Poch going elsewhere in the meantime is out of anyone’s control.

This is the page I’m on

Fantastic he's off to PSG which will give Ole some peace! Well done Woody for sticking by Ole!

That is far too simplistic a view of things. The jump up to being consistently in the top 4, in a league with as many big teams as the PL, is a massive one. He did it with little to no money and a wage bill dwarfed by those around him.

It wasn’t as simple as “he jumped up two places”. He had them beating City and Madrid in the CL and was 90 minutes away from winning it. They qualified for the CL every single year and had only ever done it once in their history beforehand.

Take a look at his spending and Spurs wage bill in that time. What he did was seriously impressive. It’s ironic that the context of what he achieved is lost because he made Spurs into a more serious team.

And this page, it’s amazing to see people using criticism from a year ago to still talk our progress down.
we’ve clearly played differently in just the last few games, must have been plan A, C and D

I don’t know why I have been used as an example of this? I praised Ole in my post! His squad building has been fantastic.

Rotation has nothing to do with having a plan.

Look at the CL and Leipzig away, playing 7 defensive players against no striker

Ole is good vibes but he will never what his fanboys want him to be, he's just not good enough.

I quoted you by mistake, I was going to refute your context post but then couldn’t be bothered :)

Other managers signing for other teams will not give him peace. Doing a good job will do, by competing for major titles he will get peace, otherwise he should be catapulted out of the club if he fails to do so.

Tough day for youse hey?

Rotation sometimes forces to change plans if the players you rotate in are not good enough.

Anyway, we played completely differently between City, Sheffield, Leeds and Everton. So this is it.

Leipzig is a game where they score on our mistakes and we don’t. And even with that, we were one crossbar away from the tie.
And in this game, we were forced to be without Fred, that gave Leipzig an idea on how we would play.

I guess only waiting May will provide the facts for once and for good. See how this team will keep performing for the manager.

Not at all. I dont care who the manager of Manchetser united is, I care for what the manager can achieve. Every manager got a fair chance to achieve something and every singel one of them deserved to be sacked because they failed to delver despite spending hundreds of millions. Ole despite he failed more than them but he got more time because he is a club legend. He still got a small chance to save his job, but come april and we are not in the title race he should be sacked.

Good! It’s impossible to refute :p
Ok I’ll have a quick stab. You go an about context of Poch getting Spurs top four with little money ignoring that Man Utd and arsenal who made that top four the previous ten years were going through massive changes and therefore not the usual top four standard, you had teams like Leicester winning the league. He also had a £100m striker waiting for him that offset that spending a bit and clearly helped his run during that time, whether he improved him as a player or not. Something like that :)

Will be hilarious if he still fails to win something with PSG and gets sacked soon after. Maybe Celtic after that?

bottled it!

so misused on this forum.

whether you agree with OGS being manager or not, Poch is not guaranteed to be the answer.

Yes that's how big clubs move.

1st in the CL group stages, just won 4-0 and they still sacked him

Same for Dortmund

Yes that's how big clubs with a long term vision move. Any serious club would have sacked Ole on the back of the Leipzig shambles or the 1-6

Woodward and the board are a bunch of clowns

What ?

They should have been 5 nil up after 20 minutes they were cruising

We only got back to life when he switched to 4-4-2 it was about 80 minutes too late
