He originally left in Season 1
because of the death of his wife. He was brought back in in Season 2 and then for Season 3 he was Director of CTU again. Having developed a drug-habit to bring down the Salazers, he decided he needed to get out of CTU and so started to work for SoD Heller. The end of Season 4 he had to go into hiding as a result of the Chinese Consul break-in. Season 5 he was being framed for the deaths of all those who knew he was alive and so he had to return. The end of Season 5 he was kidnapped. Season 6 he was brought back to be handed to a terrorist in return for information concerned with terror attacks. He escaped, the end of Season 6 he had to leave Audrey. He went to Africa (See Redemption), and was handed a Subpoena to appear in front of Congress in Season 7. Season 8 he is retired but was brought in again when somebody came to him with news of what was about to happen.

I found them OK to be honest, nothing spectacular. I'm disappointed Davros has been killed already and that the Hassan plot is over so quickly. Also, the Dana/Kevin arc is annoying already, I hate it. I hope it's finished with sooner or later, it offers nothing.
The best bit by far was Renee got the bracelet, Bauer has taught her well it seems!

I tried, lasted a week, just downloaded 1st 2 episodes and watched them back to back. Season 8 off to a crackerjack start!! I dig Dana, she is all woman. President Hasan is a dude too, very good Bollywood actor so interesting to see him in a Hollywood drama.
Looks like season 8 has all the ingredients and I like that its based in NYC, much more interesting backdrop than LA. cant wait to see the next generation surveillance kit and toys. They keep saying already that the stuff in season 7 is old skool .... well the new stuff is going to be very disturbing! Wonder what chemicals they will use for 'interrogation'?!

You know how it is Elvis don't you ? The first plot of each 24 season is short and is nothing in comparison to the main theme.I liked episode 3 more than the 4th.There is just something about 24.Even if the scenario isn't great or a but boring you still wanna watch it.
You're 100% right regarding the Dana/Kevin relation, if it brings nothing to the story then it'll be a pain the ass.Hopefully somehow it'll get connected to the plot.

Agreed that the Dana thing is shit. I don't like her character at all, and Cole just puts me off due to being Freddie Prinze Jr but I'm trying to see past that. (He was Fred in Scooby Doo ffs)

Just watched the first 3 episodes - great to have Jack (and Chloe) back. Great TV.
Also it was strange hearing David Anders speaking in his American accent, became so used to hearing him speak with a British one.
Oh hell no, Chloe is getting hotter every season. I had a nerd-gasm in that scene where she, Dana, and Renee were in the same room together.

And Anil Kapoor is absolute horrendous in his role, his accent is all over the place. I am calling him to be a bad guy.

Loved the first four episodes. The balance between the action and the drama is spot on IMO. I like how things have been built up, Cole risking his life in front of the assassin was badass, but it was predictable that Bauer was going to shoot him down.
Hasan is a legend, really like the guy. Has anyone noticed how brilliant the chemistry between Hastings and Chloe is already? The Dana sub-plot is annoying I agree, but I want to see Cole just put a cap in that guys head already.
Lastly, I am loving the new Renee, she is completely cold and hard as nails by the looks of things. She still looks like she is going to cry at every opportunity though.

I think it will be interesting to see where they take this storyline now. We were only really told about the assassination plot before the season begun, I think had they dragged it out longer then it wouldn't of been quite as good. I am looking forward to seeing what the bigger story-line will be. Obviously the russians are involved now. Also wondering what the political side of things will go like

I too am very interested to see where they will take the plot from here. Given that we have had so many twist and turns and just about every conceivable scenario played out, AND they now have an audience well versed in how the plot tends to develop and are trying to outguess what will happen .... well its a classic double de-bluff situation.

I've never caught a single episode of 24 in my life. Would it be advisable to start from Season 1? Is it really that good?
1 isn't the best because of low budget, but if you do start from 2 then make sure you read an overview of season 1 and what happened...otherwise you won't understand some of 2.
