Television 24

:( Can't believe it's over.

jveezy, said it perfectly. At its worst it was decent television. At the show's best it was pure heroin.

Yes it was predictable in that every season had the same theme, but so what? It's a bit like watching United in an average league match at OT usually, on the whole we all know that United are going to win, it's just how we do it that makes it fun.

I'm not coping too well without 24.

I heard a rumour about a Die Hard/24 film called Die Hard 5: 24/7. John McClane and Jack Bauer  my fanboy fantasy right there.

Although in reality it shouldn't happen as it would most likely be horrible and ruin both franchises.

I love how, at the beginning of the show, the camera pans over NY city and you see that same shot at the beginning of the final episode. Brilliant from the director. It almost gives you this chilly feeling and makes you wonder: how many disasters have been averted by selfless individuals whose names will never even be remembered?

Then, the end with Bauer staring at the CTU computer screen before it disappears. Pretty much sums his whole life; a man whose dedication to his country was met with no acknowledgment.

So I finally decided to check out 24, after years of hearing how good it was (mainly from Elvis tbf). I'm 4 episodes in, and I have tbh, I'm very dissapointed. I've found myself somewhat 'switching off' at times and just getting generally bored. Don't think I particularly like the idea of each season being about just one incident over the course of one day either, it just seems to drag too much. So does it get any better? And should I stick at it?....Or if I don't like it already is it unlikely to grow on me?

It does get better, I wouldn't rate Season 1 very highly compared to the others.

Interesting. I was hoping it was more a case of the opening season not being great, but then it getting better as it goes on. Rather then it just being a bit, well...crap.

The first season isn't the best. Although if you're not grabbed from the beginning I'm not sure it's for you. It kind of gets daft (well, dafter!) in the middle before picking up again in towards the end.

I can handle daft, daft can be good. But does the pace pick up? I've found myself just thinking oh ffs get on with it quite alot already.

After season 3 it becomes a bit stupid. Although you could make the argument 2 and 3 are a bit wacked up, but meh it's still got really good writing and character development in them, once they turn it into Super Jack 24 it becomes pretty crap mostly since they don't really bother and all the new characters are stale as hell.

1 is the best easily, although I stopped half way through 6, but I don't think anyone has said 7+8 are that great really.

Just finished season 7. Its still a watchable show but they ran out of ideas after around 4 and it should probably have stopped then. I seem to recall season 2 being my favourites, but they'll all merged into one by now.

Season 3, at the end of the day, when Jack gets into his SUV

TELEVISION AT IT'S BEST

I loved every season, bar season 7. Still need to watch Season 8 - got it for Christmas and just haven't had the time yet.

It's not for everyone, but I love it!

Just finished season 8 the other day the first 16 or eps are slow but the last 8 are as good as it gets.

continue watching

each season normally builds a little slowly and builds up

its great to watch Jack get more extreme as time progresses

It's okay. I'm up to the start of season 5 and it's watchable but it makes me cringe when people call it the best show ever and the like. It's mental chewing gum, basically.

Season 1: Brilliant
Season 2: Brilliant
Season 3: Brilliant
Season 4: Brilliant
Season 5: Brilliant x2
Season 6: Very poor
Season 7: Poor
Season 8: Brilliant

I think that may be one of the problems, my expectations were so high because of the exact kind of thing you've pointed out that some people (not looking at you Elvis) have said about it.

I'll stick with it and hope it grows on me. Bring on the daftness!

I still don't know why people consider 5 so good. I mean Robocop was fecking awesome in it and all, but the character outside of him and Jack still felt so empty and rather than being the smart thriller show it started out as, it turned into a gimmicky action show reliant on stupid twists....5 was good don't get me wrong, just not the best either.

Didn't really fit in any other thread so thought I'd make another.

Emmy-winning drama 24, which starred Kiefer Sutherland as a counter terrorist agent is to return to US TV, the show's producer has confirmed.

David Fury posted a message on Twitter, confirming the hit show will run on the Fox television network for 12 episodes.

According to the Hollywood magazine Deadline, Sutherland is in talks to reprise his award-winning role as agent Jack Bauer.

24 concluded its eight-series run on Fox in 2010.

Sutherland has appeared in all 192 episodes of the series since it began in 2001, with each series covering 24 hours of the agent's life, using a real time method of narration.

Plans for a big screen version appear to have been abandoned, despite Sutherland telling The Sun newspaper last month that he is still keen.

Sutherland's most recent role was in the supernatural drama series Touch, which aired on Sky 1. However, it was cancelled by Fox after just two seasons.

Yet I kept watching in the hope that it would eventually make sense. Unless the final episode that aired in the US a few hours ago wraps things up quick sharp it is a forlorn hope.

loved the show when it first started but it became a bigger farce with each season.

I've read one of the new episodes leaked scripts, apparently he jumps over a shark at some point.
