Like I said, if you want to discuss the US world cup in another thread then have at it. Agree re the Russia World Cup btw. Was a horrible decision as well. Not great, but not surprising from an organisation that’s allowing the WC to be hosted in a country that committed a 21st century genocide.
I’m sure you’ll be around to discuss that WC in that thread when the time comes.
How come other countries, with actual football infrastructure and ready built stadia, have to club together to hold a WC, yet Saudi get to host one on their own.
Why no joint Saudi/Jordan/Yemen bid?
Assuming it was a bit tongue in cheek given Saudi and Yemen's history...It costs too much money to build more stadiums. Portugal can’t do it alone. It is in their interest to share with Morocco & Spain… while in the case of Saudi Arabia they do have money to build all the needed infrastructure, bringing in Jordan wouldn’t add anything…
You're right, how dare we have morals how rude of us.As usual, 10 years early, the moral police have started their anti Saudi campaign. Qatar was a great World Cup and I sure this will be too.
My brain stopped at Jordan didn’t read the rest, the Saudi regime was responsible for thousands of civilian deaths in Yemen. But they are currently at peace.Assuming it was a bit tongue in cheek given Saudi and Yemen's history...
Ah, yeah, human rights. Who needs those right?Delighted that Saudi got the World Cup. Not that I like Saudi, feck 'em, but to see the tears of all the western country's FAs crying about human rights.
Great reason to support it, nice one. 4 da lulz!!!!Delighted that Saudi got the World Cup. Not that I like Saudi, feck 'em, but to see the tears of all the western country's FAs crying about human rights.

Any word on whether this will be another winter WC ?

I read almost certainly yes, but probably in Jan rather than December to avoid something religious (sorry I can't remember much details or where I read this... but I'm a very trustworthy source).

So another one I won’t watch. Sad state of affairs.
Thanks. Just found this bit in a NY Times article.
"If the Saudi Arabia World Cup is also moved due to those concerns, it would likely have to be brought forward to January and February of 2034, due to Ramadan — the Muslim holy month of fasting and prayer — falling in November and December of 2033 and 2034".
So in summary, this time the football calendar will not only be held hostage to the climate of the awarded country; it will also be affected by the religious calendar of said country.
That. But mostly it makes me mad and there’s no reason to make myself mad watching something that should bring me joy.Aye. It may mean nothing to the Saudi regime if we refuse to watch their World Cup, same as in any other corrupt regime where past and future World Cups have and will be held, but at least we can tell our grandchildren that we did not turn a blind eye toward it.
It’s amazing how we were told it would be shared around continents then we have 2 WCs in Qatar and Saudi in a short space of time.
Thanks. Just found this bit in a NY Times article.

It's strange how so many nations will need to make cultural and social accommodations for a Saudi Arabian World Cup yet Saudi Arabia probably won't make any accommodations for anyone.Thanks. Just found this bit in a NY Times article.

On top of that you look at South America and they have had 2 WCs in 80 years (1978 and 2014 since 1950), but I think it is all fine since they get 3 games from the 2030 version...It’s amazing how we were told it would be shared around continents then we have 2 WCs in Qatar and Saudi in a short space of time.
Well the next one is in North & South America, the one after is in Europe and Africa, Australia aside there isn't really another Oceania country capable so next in line is AsiaIt’s amazing how we were told it would be shared around continents then we have 2 WCs in Qatar and Saudi in a short space of time.
We had a World Cup in 2024??? I'm guessing you mean 2014On top of that you look at South America and they have had 2 WCs in 80 years (1978 and 2024 since 1950), but I think it is all fine since they get 3 games from the 2030 version...
