2024 U.S. Elections | Trump wins

This article and others earlier this year make a good case for the debt increasing due primarily to tax cuts by Trump and Bush. Biden has inherited these, and the debt will continue to rise due to previous Republican policies. I'm sure the GOP will still blame him for it and run - yet again - on a platform of reducing the defect. Of course they'll do the exact opposite when they get back in.

Tax cuts from GOP and entitlements from the other side. In hindsight some of the stimulus after the reopening was unnecessary and caused a spike in inflation.

Regardless, I'm not that interested in assigning blame - rather than pointing out that the current system is unsustainable and doomed to crash.

Bottom line, one can't win the job without winning independents. These are the same people that have long abandoned Trump, as have a small swath of actual Republicans who voted for him in 16 and 20. If the Republicans were running a semi-normal candidate, s/he would have a chance of winning.

I am not sure Biden is getting the independent vote either Raoul. The guy is a running joke, and any competitive race is going to tax those few remaining brain cells to the max. There's not much there, there.

Trump would be a formidable candidate vs Biden, especially in the debates. And for the record, I don't think Trump does any jail time based on the charges levied on him so far. He'll get house confinement, at most, and if any of these weak sauce indictments get to the SC, they're getting tossed.

Newsome should run, he's young, energetic, a good debater and commands the stage.

Biden is basically the same Biden who ran 3 years ago. In that race he got the most votes in history and beat Trump by 7m votes nationally. The idea that Trump, who is now legitimately facing prison time, has magically reclaimed voters who ditched him is just not going to happen. If the Rs ran a normal candidate like Youngkin, then he would probably lose.

A Kennedy was never going to get any Republican votes.

He might take some Democrat votes though.

Republicans love him because he’s a factually challenged conspiracy theorist. Even Trump has spoken favorably about him so he would probably get a fair more R votes than many think, which is why Charlie Kirk in the post above is freaking out that he may run as a independent and siphon votes from Trump.

That's literally the opposite of what the data suggests, the people who like RFK are the ones who like Trump. Cornel West would be the real threat to Biden.

What is this about, anyway? Trump is a terrible debater, trowing insults and interrupting all the time doesn't make you a winner.

Besides, Trump is the one with a track-record of skipping debates, not Biden.

It's unsustainable precisely because of tax cuts from Bush, which were supposed to only be temporary, and then Trump. The unsustainability has everything to do with that and not "entitlements" which have systematically been cut the last 30-40 years.

This really isn't a both sides thing. It's a GOP thing. Also the spike in inflation wasn't primarily caused by the stimulus - although that was admittedly mismanaged with a lot of wealthy "small" businesses taking a lot of government money they didn't have to payback - but it was the fallout of COVID global shipping issues and then Russia invading Ukraine.

Biden is not the same Biden that ran three years ago, his mental decline is apparent. In 2020 he barely won the DNC primaries, and needed Clyburn to save his campaign; in the general he campaigned from a basement and with sparse crowds. Plus Trump was in full imolation mode. Also, a lot of people didn't vote FOR Biden in 2020, inasmuch as voted AGAINST Trump (Covid, George Floyd, BLM, people were tired and wanted change). Biden ran as the candidate to unify the country and save the republic, which is what we needed at the time.

Neither Trump nor Biden are equipped to handle an insolvent SS/Medicare, broken immigration, rampant budget deficits, China, Russia etc. Both parties need sane, vibrant candidates - the era of feinstein, pelosi, mcconell, biden, trump needs to end.

Well if you want to get into it, the rich don't get taxes and the poor get subsidies, so both parties are fecking the middle class without any lube.

The same charges of "cognitive decline" were alive and well in 2020. On top of which, he also had a MeToo ginned up on him by someone who now resides in Russia, and yet he managed to win by 7m votes nationally - a testament to how badly people didn't want to see Donald Trump remain as President. This was of course before Trump is facing jail time. Therefore, voters are more likely to vote for Biden as a means to keep him out, as opposed to a nearly in jail Donald Trump because they're concerned about Biden's cognitive abilities.

The Democrats have not achieved much but it is the GOP actively "fecking the middle class without any lube" with their combination of tax cuts and blocking any expansion and assistance for the middle class. For instance, how hard the GOP fought against Biden's plan to forgive college loan debt is just one example of a Dem plan that would have helped the middle class but the GOP fought tooth and nail to screw the middle class.

Sure, just add the college loan debt to the taxpayer's tab, that's a great way to help the middle class!

Meanwhile efforts to curtail military spending, or healthcare costs never go anywhere because both parties in the pocket of defense, health insurance and big pharma pockets.

Had no idea Biden faced a #metoo moment, that goes to show how well the media is suppressing Russian kompromat for one side and not the other ;-)

Being facetious, but let's see how it plays out.

The accuser was often on Fox News & generated a decent buzz even though her story was basically bullshit. She since had tried to drum up support at various times to no avail. Then she fecked off to Russia.

These people genuinely think he is the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.

And they are also this cultish based on their desire to see others hurt. Not only a religious cult, but one of pure violence and retribution based on political beliefs.

They are vastly outnumbered overall in the US, unfortunately they live in the "correct" states, so their voices are amplified.

God, the senate is such an anti-democratic, garbage institution....

That's not how the debt plays out. First, a lot of that debt isn't getting paid back anyway. second, it would mostly eliminate the interest payments which is fair. Third, the economic boost to all the people in loan debt and the effect of releasing a lot more money into the economy to do work instead of just debt servicing would have a net positive effect. Basically it would lessen the burden on the middle class since a lot of the middle class are the ones with the student loan debt.

Also for healthcare costs, this is what you get when you want healthcare to be a for profit industry. It sounds like you support things like universal single payer health care which would reduce the costs so that's a good thing at least.
