Yep, there haven’t been enough native shoots from it yet. But surely these companies still need to have a European base?
Yeah, but if it starts costing them more money to have employees and money moving through here, I guess there would be serious downsizing, which will cause a lot of problems. Don't go spending all that Apple money just yet.

Looking at the map its hard to overstate how badly Harris did almost everywhere including solid blue states:

-6 points in California, New Jersey and Illinois
-5 points in New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maryland
-4 points in Massachusetts
-3 points in Virginia
-2 points in Vermont, Delaware and Oregeon

I wonder how much of this is simply all the people who turned out in 2020 stayed home in 2024? If so its pretty wild that people stayed home who were motivated to come out last time.
For those yes you could do the obvious in general people were not motivated to vote for HER even though Blue states.

But, I also wonder how much is the focus on battlegrounds all the time every cycle to the point of you can barely go to the other Blue states except fundraising. So its my vote wont matter anyway maybe. And you do clearly have to focus on Battlegrounds especially in this instance so late in the game taking over for Biden and no primary.

It's pretty crazy how Trump could have been shot dead a few months ago.

Just a bad feeling when she was always going on shows like Colbert and Saturday night live where everyone watching would be voting for her anyway.

She didn't seem to be doing enough to persuade the undecided.

Now you wonder how Biden would have fared
Worse, which isn't saying much. Both were shite.

As someone who
1. Supported Bernie in 2016 and am 100% convinced he would have easily beaten Trump then
2. Canvassed for Bernie in 2020 and am moderately confident he would have narrowly beaten Trump
3. Likes his policies and policies to his left

Nah. Things have changed now. The US has moved to the right, quite decisively. AOC at one point spoke of open borders or abolish ICE. That makes her dead on arrival. Bernie, who has been less left-wing than her on immigration, is also DOA. In general, the space for left-wing populism opened in 2008 and closed sometime between 2017 and 2022.

No, the US hasn't moved to the right. The left has just overdone it so everything that isn't woke looks "right" now. I'm a child of immigrants in Germany and come from a working class family, I was always traditionally left, so were my parents in their home country. 4 years ago you can track back my posts here rooting against Trump during election night on this very forum. But somewhere in the past 5 - 10 years something strange has happened in the West where people like me, who don't buy into the idea that a dude with a penis becomes and always has been a woman, just by self-declaration, and I have to strictly follow the desired "pronounces" under threat of "hate speech crime", are now "right wing fashists". While at the same time big cities all over Europe where the left is at helm look like shit now. Ever been to Berlin? Like California or much of London and Paris these places are literally garbage now under years of left politics with oben borders all around. Every single train station is a crime hotspot nowadays in Germany, my wife can't travel to business meetings to other cities without carrying peper spray. She simply doesn't feel safe anymore alone on the streets. Then you visit Poland and everything is clean and neat and orderly, just as I remember Germany from my childhood. Guess why. At the same time the German economy is still tanking despite letting in millions of immigrants (who mostly aren't qualified at all and live from welfare) who were supposed to help with the aging population. "Cheap green energy" from solar and wind is still a big myth. After decades of promises we are still waiting. Germa economy is tanking left and right, Volkswagen is laying of thousands of people. Amazing sanctions on Russia there. Well done. We're getting the same oil and gas from Russia transported and relabeled from India for a much higher price now.

If I were the right and trying to destroy the left via Psyop I would spread these exact same Woke ideologies that clearly won't resonate with the majority of the people. Or common sense. And then places like this still scratch their heads how America votes Trump. Twice.

I always love these "I'm traditionally left but" posts that proceed to outline an entire right-wing manifesto.

The US has very obviously and very heavily moved to the right.

This is what I find baffling. The Dems need to come up with a winning galvanising message but Trump just stands up there talking absolute gibberish and wins?

I think this was a factor but I disagree overall. The ultimate reason was the economy. And the Democratic Party’s inability to come up with a galvanising winning message, despite all the stuff Trump stands for.

That’s not fair. He’s also developed the concepts of a healthcare plan.

The UK has had the Tories for 14 years. Hollande, Macron, Merkel and even Scholz are hardly Fidel Castro.

Out of curiosity, had the US already - very obviously and very heavily - moved to the right four years ago when the Democratic candidate convinced a record of 81 million Americans to vote for him, or is it something that just happened last night?

Don't think she did a lot wrong and it's not really constructive to point the finger right now. Trump was winning this regardless of who was on the Dem ticket.

Not holding a primary to find a popular candidate was a mistake. Unfortunately she's got the stink of the Biden administration on her (albeit the economic issues are the mess Trump left them with) coupled with the disadvantage of her gender and the color of her skin.

Don't really think this is relevant, considering Dems moved right just as well

Those immigrants are there because of western wars, wars germany was a willing participant in, if you don't want immigrants running for their lives travelling to your country maybe don't bomb the shit out of theirs.

Yes, as a matter of fact. The Democrats have been moving rightward for a while, regardless of how much airtime a loud progressive minority received in right-wing media.

Which wars are those Germany willfully participated in?

A 2% win in multiple swing states doesn’t indicate movement in a certain direction. We need more cycles to judge.

This is a tough loss. But it’s not like Harris lost these states by 10-20. The national mood swung enough for Trump to win. It could swing in the other direction next time, and that wouldn’t indicate a movement to the left.

This is true (in the sense that she didn’t have q lot of active gaffes).

She is not inspiring though. She has the stench of incumbency. She took over the mantle without any kind of primary process (having done poorly in the last primary). And yes, some of it will be due to difficulties with race and gender too.

None of which is good enough if the Dems genuinely believed they were fighting against a uniquely dangerous threat to the very system of government.

So, you say that the Democrats have moved to the right.

Others here say that the Democrats have become too woke.

Talking about securing the border is not moving rightward.

Harris was campaigning with Liz fecking Cheney, for heaven's sake.

The idea that the Democrats are too woke and progressive is ridiculous. Getting people to actually believe it is the most successful operation of the modern American right.

That doesn’t prove your point.

In 2028, the Democrat can win. The democrats can do well in 2026 too. And they had a great election, against the odds, just two years ago.

And I agree that the woke talk is exaggerated.

Democrats need to purge the activist wing from their ranks, all dominated college-educated elitists who advocate for extremely unpopular policies on immigration, crime and race.

Just as almost the entirety of Europe has done in their most recent elections, to be fair, it's not strictly a US thing. But imo it's more of a reaction towards the left's inability to properly deal with immigration and "woke" rather than people actually obtaininig more right-leaning beliefs, if that makes sense.

Not going to go through all these but some aren't true and think you've fallen into right wing talking points. Across most of Europe there's an odd perception that crime is now out of control but if you actually look at the data it couldn't be further from the truth, the reason is right wing media and racist political groups pushing a certain agenda.

There's no easier way to push people to vote right than scare them on such issues.
