So who's going to be the scapegoat for the Trump administration when reality sets in that things aren't in fact going to get better for ordinary folk? Mexicans? Haitians? Women? Palestinians?

Radical left and the deep state.

Will be fun four years to follow.

Project 2025 gutting civil service, Heritage foundation and other loonies loading the lower and higher courts with nobodies like Aileen Cannon, gerry-mandered maps, dimnishing the reach of agencies like FDA, FCC, environment un-friendly policies, Vaccine skeptic in charge of medicine, Musk becoming even more of an edgelord, World cup in the US of A.

FFS
Oh forgot about this. Wonder if the same folks who insisted on boycotting the Qatar world cup will reserve the same energy for the US, especially if they pivot towards being a misogynistic, racist quasi-dictatorship?

Instead of the first female president, the USA elected the first felon president - my god, what a weird sentence.

Another aspect thats weird is need for endorsement from celebs, aint their influence after everything like all time low, some could say even having negative impact
Only thing I would counter that with is Trump is a celebrity. They worship him. They can laugh at Taylor Swift, Beyonce etc not "mattering" celebs suck. But their celebrity won. And we see his influence and brands everywhere.

From the outside looking in, it seems there's to much focus on trying to damage trump rather than promote what the Dems are good at.

For the limited knowledge I have of US politics i wouldn't have voted foe either, I would spoil my vote. Both terrible candidates.

I also think the media in America is so bias, it's hard to get any balance in the reporting of the election.

Like i said, just like you, have no real knowledge nor i am wanna know but even if Biden ran, there is no way people shouldnt stand up against both parties for being in a spot of having to choose between fecking Biden or Trump, thats just mental.

The fact that Mark Robinson got 40% in a state like North Carolina just shows how little of the vote is actually gettable for Democrats. The guy is downright detestable, but such a large share of people make up their minds based solely on the letter next to the candidate. It’s wild.

The most consequential aspect of this result is the Supreme Court. We will likely see Thomas and Alito step down in the Trump term and their replacement will be there for 2-3 decades.
The untouchable lifetime judges is one of the more bizarre aspects of American politics to me. Why isn't there a term limit?

The sacrosanct, wizened old council. It's like something out of sci-fi/40k.

Yep. It will be interesting to see more data over the next few days but life is shite for the average American.

We've all been going in this direction for a while. As I said before Trumps answers is tax cuts and tariffs on imported goods. That's not going to help people hurting the most.

Yeah, it’s weird to seek out endorsements by the elites in order to convince people to vote for you, who obviously hate the elite.

It was way too late in the game for that. Dems needed to unite behind a candidate as quick as possible.

Which is inexcusable. Bidden didnt suddenly got sick or shot, his decline is continous, gradual, and consistent. We've seen his gaffes from way back. They clearly knew and kept him until it's too late being paraded naked on live debate. They didnt push him out because they're shocked, they push him out because he can't win

That's on them, the selfishness of the party with no spine to pull the trigger on the obvious putting the nation on the line.

The margins of Trump's victory shows he was winning this no matter what. Even Obama might have struggled against him.

People are pissed off about inflation and the incumbent government unfairly got the blame, simple as that.

Just a bad feeling when she was always going on shows like Colbert and Saturday night live where everyone watching would be voting for her anyway.

She didn't seem to be doing enough to persuade the undecided.

Now you wonder how Biden would have fared

All of them. Trump throws anyone under the bus if it suits him.

Grim that after all this time, the famed "Latino Wave" was actually ridden by Donald Trump.

Do they even need one? They seem to have the money, influence, and hearts of enough people to get away with anything really.

Yea but their celeb comes out and say i can shoot someone while others lost the trust or influence due their dark secrets or secrets of others while saying shit that makes them look all fake.

Biden would have lost too. The high prices is what tipped the scales. Incumbents always get blamed.

Trump is a rural turnout machine, and in a normal election year I think he's pretty much unbeatable. The Dems got fortunate in 2020 with covid keeping so many older republicans from coming out to vote.

I think the world is pretty much fecked now that he can do whatever he wants the next four years.

Dems are laughing at his rallies. It helps tremendously. Him being there and all that.

Voters are humans, they can be swayed. If only Biden reach out to more rallies and Harris has enough time for more rallies

I expect Sotomayor is more interested in finishing her own term shall we say “organically” than doing Dems any sort of favour like that. The fallout is something she will literally never have to deal with.

Dems cant win with this attitude. You need to be ruthless to win a war. I thought the revolution war taught them that much.

On top that elite preaching some shit, while having all kinds of skeletons that seems to be discovered more and more.

Yes those conversations needed to happen a long time before they did. He stepped aside too late in the game, the best Harris could do at that point was give the Dems a fighting chance.

I agree but it's still a joke he was still trying to run in July. It was obvious a long time before then that he was not up to it. Harris and her campaign were dealt a bad hand.

Because people wish they were rich and hearing a rich guy banging on about the stock market sells the idea that they can get rich.

The reality and the perception couldn't be further apart but people are delusional dreamers rather than grounded in what is real.

Maybe the reality is for everyday Joe life's better under Trump?

Beyond the paycuts and tarrifs it comes down to staple food and gas price

Selfishly, I hope he was all talk in relation to US tech/pharma companies in Ireland, or we're back to farming potatoes.
Yep, there haven’t been enough native shoots from it yet. But surely these companies still need to have a European base?

It’s not the dems choice. It’s Sotomayor’s

This election has just proved the opposite, Dem ground operation was acknowledged to be far superior to GOP, and they probably did move the average in the battlegrounds a point or so in their favour compared to the national environment.

What rallies had Trump held in New Jersey to explain the 10 point shift, or Illinois, or Minnesota? When you have a bloodbath like this everywhere, the obvious conclusion is your messaging doesn't matter. The general population have marinated in right wing media/social media grievances and disinformation to the point they are unpersuadable by traditional means. They dropped probably 2 billions in political ads between presidential and senate/house races and lost out to fecking manosphere podcasts.

So many people suckered into voting against their own best interests.
Yeah that's never happened here... *cough* Brexit

People only care about saving face now. Being right. 1up-ping anyone who disagrees with you.

People put those things above what is within their best interests. From the top to the bottom.

Looking at the map its hard to overstate how badly Harris did almost everywhere including solid blue states:

-6 points in California, New Jersey and Illinois
-5 points in New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maryland
-4 points in Massachusetts
-3 points in Virginia
-2 points in Vermont, Delaware and Oregeon

I wonder how much of this is simply all the people who turned out in 2020 stayed home in 2024? If so its pretty wild that people stayed home who were motivated to come out last time.

Listened to a podcast recently that called the GOP “an efficient machine that turns fear and resentment into tax cuts for the rich”. Pretty accurate.

No they don’t. They’d worship Taylor Swift if she came out as a hardcore republican tradwife.

Everyone likes elites on their side and hates those opposed to them. More examples are Trump himself and now, Musk.
