Exit polls in the UK are literally “who did you vote for”.

Not these wafty finger in the air “do you like a strong economy or do you like immigration” bollocks.

Unless there is a legal reason they can’t run the same sort of exit poll I’m inclined to believe that it’s very much designed to give these pundits something to muse and debate for the next 18 hours without having actual obvious data to work with.

It really does feel like the entire process of an American election is geared towards making the best TV and the actual democracy aspect isn't a big deal to the media.

I assume the legal reason is that voting is still ongoing. They can’t announce the exit polls in the Uk (and here in Ireland) until the polls close. The US being across multiple time zones probably does not help.

For who? It looks like a disaster for Trump, if accurate.
Yeah “Democracy” I cannot see how that’s not clearly linked to the fears that Trump is a despot.

This. No such thing in USA?

If you also take into the account republicans don't have much, if any edge on "the economy" anymore since Harris became the nominee, there isn't much Trump is left with here.

The bit where they asked people how they felt things were going and the consensus was that death can't come soon enough didn't strike me as a terribly good sign for the current administration.

democracy ranking top is great news for Harris

most people being dissatisfied by the current state of the country is good news for Trump though

These exit polls are pointless  nobody is ever fecking satisfied with their country.

Well, apart from Monégasque people maybe?

Also 14% say abortion is the most important issue to them.

14% is non-trivial when an election is won and lost on 1-2% either way. If in that 14% are people who are voting first time or are switching their vote for the first time that is very significant

You could argue that republicans might say democracy is a top issue too, though, because they also feel like it’s all robbed.

Wouldn't read too much into it yet. You could argue Harris is more of a "change candidate" than Trump.

I'm not sure she's distanced herself enough for that

especially after saying she wouldnt have done anything different to Biden in one of the debates

Also there’s no incumbent so what’s the point in that question?!

I have no idea who is favourite and what is happening. I don’t know what the news is anymore. I feel like I’m drowning trying to find some objective truth.

If I was American I'd also feel negative about the state of the country. Because of the republicans, among other things.

America is one crazy country, exit polls being rolled out while voting is taking place with polls still open across multiple states basically encourages herd mentality. Federal elections should be more centralized in my opinion.

Two poll questions are always in the negative and you don't need to concern yourself with either, certainly not with exit polls:

1- Satisfaction with country
2- Direction of country

You’re such a drama queen

that's true, and Trump is a major reason that everything is so toxic

but suffice to say Trump voters don't seem to see that
